I would say that the stereotypes about the students aren't accurate at all. Guidos and typical Long Island girls make up a very small percentage of people on campus and most of them are commuters anyway, so they're seen much less. I think that Hofstra has a very diverse campus of students. The Hofstra run-around is probably true for some. I've never experienced it for myself, but others close to me have.
Laura
for the most part, yes
Jo
the diseases are false. recent studies show that the reports indicate we're clean... as far as the "hofstra red." the student accusations are true.
Nicole
Pretty much. There are a few bright stars among the sour apples, however.
Maryann
Some people are like that, but certainly not all.
Maureen
I feel that this can happen on any college campus. Especially since I am a commuter I have never attended any parties on campus or gone to the bars near by so I haven't noticed why this stereotype exists.
Tristan
Girls do dress nicely but some don't - i've been on college campuses way more preppy than hofstra. Some people are stuck up but some are not. Its a very diverse place. There are a ton of different people.
Nicole
Every stereo-type can hold true for someone, but Hofstra's stereotype isn't accurate on the whole. I'm an athiest, poor, intelligent, and a psych major and have found an amazing niche in the honors college at hofstra. And all those girls that are pin-pointed as 'jappy and bitchy' are pretty nice if you get to know them.
Parker
i have found that i encountered many "long island girls" who seem to promote that view, although they might actually be very intelligent
Harper
There are always activities going on, and there is just so much to do on campus. I find it a very useful and entertaining environment.

As far as my experience goes, not at all. Most of my interactions have been with other music majors, but almost everyone I have met has been smart, busy, hardworking, and interesting. If you can find your niche at Hofstra (and it's not too hard to do... the school isn't that big), you'll find some great people who know what they want out of life. The only people who really complain about the other students are those who seem to make a concious effort to be unhappy, though I suppose Long Island might take some getting used to if you're from out of state.
As far as the STDs go, I have a boyfriend, so I really wouldn't know.
Ainsley
Hofstra is overpriced.
Brandon
As with any community the stereotype is true to a degree. However this is not true to the extent of which this generalization has been made. Yes these type of people are represented at Hofstra, but I have found Hofstra to be extremely articulate, professional, and extremely diverse culturally as well and socially.
Caitie
No, Hofstra is not as easy to get into. The classes are not all easy, many of the professors really challenge students.
It seems like a lot of the school is from Long Island, but it is getting less and less. Many of my classes have less than 1/2 of the students from New York. If you want to party you can, but I have found plenty of people who dont
Sarah
There are some students like this on campus, but there is also a large amount of normal every day, nice people
April
mostly yes, but there are some of us that work for a living :)
