The advice i would give parents or students is to look into the college you want to go and find out does it fit you and also make sure your going to school to get an education not fooling around. There was a lot of students who had to leave because of their GPAs.

Colleen

Try to best understand your own personal wants and needs - socially, academically, and culturally when choosing a school. When you step on campus, take notice of all the activities to gain a healthy social life but also look at flyers for academic and career oppoutunities. Make the most of your professor's knowledge. Do what you went to the school to do, meaning constantly take steps toward building a good resume, reputation and array of experiences. Parents should trust their child and encourage them to step out of their comfort zone; every other place in the world is different than your hometown.

I would suggest that all students really take into consideration the overall reputation of the college or university. There is nothing worse than working hard for four years and then realizing that your degree isn't respected. Every school has a social scene so don't waste your time worrying about parties, they will always be there. Instead focus on determining whether or not the school offers what you're looking for academically. Find a school that offers you an academic advisor and plenty of accessible information on degree requirements. If you have a hobby, look for a school that has a related club or organization. Anything that adds to your resume, and isn't miserable for you to have to participate in, is a great opporunity. Wait until you get financial aid statements before accepting any offers. Realizing that you are over $20,000 in debt with another year to go when you're only 20 years old is harsh, to say the least. Make friends in classes, read the books your teachers suggest, drink lots of coffee, stay up all night to make your assignments perfect, and network like your future depends on it. Parents- trust your kids.

Pick a college that is different from everything that you're used to. What is learning if you already know about it? Keep an open mind and an open heart - have fun!

The best advice I can give to parents and students while searching for the right college is plan! Know what you are looking for before you start looking. Know what your intended major will be and find a school with a good program for that major. Check out the dorms, research financial aid and payment options. Even take a look at the bookstore. When you find the right school you will know it. You just have to be looking in the right places.

Yun

If the student who think this is better than study and that's why they want to so culinary, they pick the wrong major/school. This need lots of passion and work. If student who is not passionate of this study, they will not do well. However, if the student who is really interested in this major, it will be fun and it is the best school to attend!

Eric

The school is what you make of it.

I would tell parents and students that knowing what you want to do as a career is a hard choice to make. Knowing what you want to do usually goes along with what college you want to go too. Many students graduate high school not knowing what they want to do and I believe that is ok. College is extremely important and attending it without knowing what your major is going to be in fine. General classes are there to guide you and usually after a year or two you know what you want to do. To the parents and students who know what major they want to enroll in then it's all about finding a college that fits the student as a person. College can be scary the first week but you get through it and look back and say, wow, I can't believe I was un-sure about my new surroundings. Find a campus that calls out to you and your major. Make sure it feels like a place where you can academically and socially learn. Everything will fall together in the end, but as a student you should feel comfertable with your choice.

START EARLY AND GET ALL THE INFO ON THE SCHOOLS YOU WANT TO. GO LOOK AT THE ONES YOU REALLY WANT TO GO TO .SEE HOW THE STAFF WORKS WITH YOU. TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAMPUS . GO AND GET A FEEL OF THE CAMPUS AND SEE IF YOU CAN SEE YOURSELF THERE. MAKE SURE YOU TALK TO STUDENTS AND GET THEIR VIEWS ON THE SCHOOL AND HOW WELL THE TEACHERS HELP OR TAKE THE TIME TO TELL YOU WHERE TO FIND THE ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS. SEE IF ITS A PLACE YOU WANT TO LEARN AND SEE YOURSELF AT BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE HAPPY THERE IN ORDER TO LEARN YOU NEED A STRONG STAFF LIKE WE HAVE AT MY CAMPUS.

Do what you love.

My advice to any student starting college would be to at least have an idea of what you want to do or what you like to do before picking a degree. Make sure to study abroad and experience new cultures and different places. My advice to parents would be to support the students and know when it's time to let go. Let them go off and do their own thing, but be there when they need you or when they mess up.

Parents listen to your children adn childre listen to your parents. Look outside of the partying and drinking, college is more than that, its what sets you up for the rest of your life, so take it very seriously. Give 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} and don't be ashamed to pick a college because of its academic standing instead of its social life, your there to get an education, when your focus is on that then everything else will fall into perspective.

Jillian

Explore your options. Look at different schools, and do all of your college applications as early as you can! It definietly helps in getting into good housing as well as getting the stress of the applications off your shoulders as soon as possible. Talk and be very open with each other and explain what you think you might want to do while you are away at school (what degrees you are looking into), which schools you are specifically looking at and why you are looking at going to them. Try and be positive.

I would tell future students to get involved, make as many friends as you can, and keep up on your work. I would tell parents to keep in touch with their child but not to smoother them, for if they do, they'll never go home and rebel against them.

Shade

they should start looking for the right college during their child's sophmore year and highschool and then list the most important factors of what they want in a school like distance, social activites, study abroad programs, etc.

Laura

College isn?t just about book learning it?s a great opportunity to discover new things about you. So go to the school you really want, even if they didn?t offer the best financial aid package. You need to be happy, and money problems can be figured out. College is a great time in life so enjoy it every step of the way. Find a balance between your social life and classes and ask for help if you need it. There are plenty of places on or off college campuses that will help you get through tough times so never feel like you are alone, and mom and dad are still there for you so don?t be shut them out. The four years you?re in college will fly by so try to enjoy little things along the way and build up friendships that will last years after graduation. Souza said ?Happiness is a journey not a destination? apply that same thinking to college life. Getting ?in? can cause so many emotions but it?s what you do once you get here that counts. College is a journey not a destination.

My advice would to be start looking at colleges junior year of high school. I applyed to 3 schools and I didnt look at any of them until I was accepted. I waited until the last minuet to apply for schools. Start looking at schools before senior year. Senior year is when you start narrowing down the schools that you would like to attend from the ones that dont fit what you would like to do. Also look for schools that have things that interest you going on around campus. Make the choice on where to go based off if they have your major, activities you would like to do, size of class and your own personal preferences. I like having small classes and teachers know who you are. It makes the classroom experience more personal. Other people prefer to sit in a lecture hall with alot of students. No matter where you go make sure you attend class, do the work, take notes, and read. While that is important make sure you dedicate one day or one night to just going out with friends and have fun. When going out remember college can be fun without drugs or alcohol.
