I am attracted to MSU because of the beautiful campus and the great nursing program that they have on campus. In addition, nursing students have the access to a near by hospital for volunteering and potential jobs.

I believe the campus is beautified and as lots of amazing sensory, the staff are incredible and the room to grow is amazing. they allow new adults to experience adult good without the pressure of being thrown into the real word. The town has plenty of activities to do and things you are able to do. The Bobcats have one of the best football teams and hockey teams in our division. I believe that this school offers an amazing environment.

It's a great school! I haven't been there to much, but I am planning on going. Everyone pone there is really nice and everyone is always willing to help out if you have any questions. I feel already like I'm a student due to everyone being so friendly around campus.

There are always new people to meet with diverse interests and outlets for those interests. You will never be bored with the hundreds of clubs and classes for every small hobby or activities for random small holidays. The faculty and staff are extremley accomodating and kind.

The area around Bozeman was beautiful and there was plenty to do but the people kinda sucked. Was definitely a party school and hard to find people who could actually hold a conversation about non-mundane things. Lots of partying on and off campus including in the dorms. Students were very judgmental and hard t make friends.

My overall opinion of Montana state University is its a great school and a great area to live in if you love snow and sunshine. There is just so much to do here its every day there is something different to do and the environment and teachers are amazing here I could not see myself going anywhere else for college.

MSU is set in a beautiful town surrounded by gorgeous mountains. The school offers great academics with personable professors. There are a variety of ways to get involved and find your own niche. However, with Montana being more so a rural northern state, it is easy to say that the diversity at MSU is lacking a bit.

Montana State University is a great university and campus to gain experience in the classroom and in life! The faculty comes for diverse cultural and work experience backgrounds making learning meaningful and exciting. During the events of COVID 19, MSU had the safety and health of the students at the forefront and did their best to make the transition from in class to online the best to their ability which speaks to their ethos of education and care for students.

Montana State is a very good school. I learned a lot and it was a very safe environment. It is in a small town so you better like the town and the people that live there. I did feel like the school caters more towards the engineering students more than other degrees, but I still learned a lot. Most of my classes were hard and I didn't think of any of my classes as easy A's. I learned a lot :)

Being at Montana State University I have seen that the main focus is a healthy balance between academics and the outdoors. The university values its overall prestige and works every year towards offering the newest and best resources for its students.

Five years ago, if I had been told I would be going to college in Bozeman, Montana I would have called you crazy. As an aspiring filmmaker, I would not have thought that Montana State University would be the university for me; surprisingly, MSU has a lot to offer to film students such as myself, and students in other disciplines. MSU is highly accredited for teaching future nurses, engineers, and agricultural workers. With such a wide variety of areas of study it is easy for students to connect with people outside of their own major. This allows for collaboration between disciplines in order to create amazing results. Our Natural Science and Film programs have worked together to develop the Master of Fine Arts program for Science and Natural History filmmaking--the only program of its kind in the world! This unique program brings together students of film, and of science to create compelling studies and documentaries. Even better, undergraduate students have access to help from grad students in the MFA program, allowing undergrads to further their education and build connections before earning their BA. This is only one example of the innovative programs that MSU has developed, and what I have experience studying here.
Not only do MSU’s academics speak for themselves, but my experience with MSU’s ResLife has demonstrated a strong commitment to community building. As a Resident Advisor, I have worked hard to build a floor, and hall community that is engaged in more than academics alone. ResLife works hard to engage students out of a classroom setting. As an RA, I work my hardest to connect with students on a personal level in order to make them feel hear, and feel like they have a place in the community. Because all Freshman live on campus their first year, I find it important to build a community that residents feel excited to come home to. The Residents Halls also have Living Learning Communities, which are floors where likeminded people live together, allowing for easier collaboration, and development of community during their Freshman year. This allows students to find their interest, and people who have similar interests also. By creating well knit communities, my role as an RA has allowed my to engage my residents in the Bozeman community. This past month, my floor raised $150 for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank. Montana State’s ResLife does an excellent job of giving back to the community and give the Bobcats a positive reputation. Personally, this is part of why I believe MSU is an amazing university.

Montana State University is an overall slightly above average university they offer many courses, activities, and resources however they focus too much on making new residence halls and not enough on availability of parking and snow and ice conditions. There's definitely room for improvement on those topics. Other than that professors are pretty great and classes are interesting.

Huge lecture halls, blizzards, and centipedes. OH MY!
Montana state university is simultaneously a truly wonderful and truly terrible school.
First, the bad: the hall I live in, which shall remain anonymous (rhymes with Sappner) is overrun with centipedes; often it is nearly impossible to get to class because of the sub-zero temperatures, and truly horrifying amounts of snow; the lecture halls are crowded with people who will inevitably fail basic classes because the professors are so pompous that they cannot simply explain a formula without letting it become a treatise on their own genius.
Now, the good: the snow, while unpleasant, creates a few beautiful and rare Blue bird Powder days during the year (its a skier thing); the dining halls are some of the best in the nation; despite all the weird hipsters in their juice bars, the people here are pretty great.
The takeaway here is: as is MSU c'est la vie. There is good and bad but in the end you're left looking at that big blue sky fringed by snow-capped mountains, and I, at least, wouldn't change it for the world.

It’s a good school, but I feel that there isn’t enough financial aid opportunities for out of state students. It’s very hard to establish residency, as you lose your out of state scholarship, and you have to get a job and only do school part time. It’s not super easy. The residence halls are decent. We pay way too much for food that is so bad. The coffee shop is good though. There are not a lot of work-study jobs that pay enough to be worth the time. Teachers are amazing though. Which is important.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Montana State University is 82%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I were to go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would tell myself two things; if something doesnt feel right with your major or your social activities then change it right away, and be very positive and social on the very first day of college. If I would have gone with my gut after the first semester of college, I would have saved myself many nights of worrying and confusion due to the difficulty of my engineering major. I always had a gut feeling that I should be doing something else but I chose to ignore that feeling and wait another whole year before I finally changed majors to the one I love. My second comment to myself about being more social and confident would have helped me tramendously in making more friends and being an overall happier person. Now I'm not saying I'm an unhappy person, but if I would have been more outgoing during my first couple weeks at college I think I would feel a lot more cofident about my future and the life I'm living. Overalll i love my college and college life.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
It is extremely geared towards my major and the outdoors. I am in anthropology and it has one of the best archaeology departments in the West. Bozeman even has a museum, Museum of the Rockies, which once housed the renowned paleontologist Jack Horner. It also has many outdoor sports to participate in. We have classes in snowboarding and skiing, as well as campus wide hikes and river rafting expeditions. Even some of the dorms have floors geared towards outdoor enthusiests.
I believe the best thing about Montana State University is that its business program is among the top in the nation. I have also found several good friends within the business department who are willing to help me understand things that I don't get right away.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating part of school is registering for new classes and thinking that you dropped one section to pick up a new section to find that it didn't really do that but luckily I called the registrar's office and they were willing and able to help. The other frustrating part is trying to meet with my advisor and actually getting advise but again luckily my older sister has been there before me and has shared her solutions.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
People who prefer small classes should not attend this school. This is a large university with 12,000 students; there are so many people that there is not enough time in the day to make all of the classes with a size of 20 or less students. The smallest class I have attended contained 30 students. Despite having a large amount of students, living on campus enables one to meet and recognize most people from his or her grade. Thus, even though it is a large university, students still know each other and create a community-like environment.
Great engineering school, #4 in the country in Architecture, friendly atmosphere, great mountains, not too big not too small, good environment for learning academically and personally.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
All sports groups are popular on campus yet there is no one elite group on campus. I'm largely involved with the music groups on campus. I use to be a music major and I've definitely kept in contact with everyone I met. In most dorms students do leave there doors open. There are few quieter dorms where students are more private. Athletic events are very popular overall and guest speakers are quite popular with a large group on campus. I don't know much about the dating scene since I've been in a long distance relationship with a guy I met in high school. I met my closest friends through my original major. Major traditions on campus include preparing for homecoming. On a Saturday night you can go to the movies or just hang out with friends. You can also go bowling or hang out at the recreation center on campus.
Academics at Montana State University are strongly emphasized. Students spend a large amount of time studying and class participation is not only encouraged but enforced through a percentage of your class grade. I'm currently in transition of degree's and college has proven to be a struggle for me. I'm at a point where I personally need to assert myself more and I feel like this experience gives me a better view on college.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The amount of stereotyping on MSU's campus is not very prominent, however there is a pretty large stereotype of the ski bums vs. the people who are very studious. We do have jocks, partiers, stoners, and the frat kids, however it is not extremely prominent when on campus.
My overall opinion of MSU is it's a great school. The administration and teacher's genuinely care about the students and reach out to the students when there is a problem. School pride is a large part of the MSU atmosphere and the students are great.
The professors at MSU are GREAT! they are always available and are more than willing to meet with you over the weekend. They make an effort to learn all their students names and get to know you personally. I am on a first name basis with all of my professors and its great. Some will even give you their personal cell in case you have questions. They are also very interested in helping prepare you for the workforce and want to see you succeed.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
84% of students attending Montana State University receive some sort of financial aid.
22% were awarded federal grants.42%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
