Morgan State University Top Questions

I have great pride for Morgan State University. Not only because it is a black historical university, but there are many academic programs offered, undergrad and graduate degree programs and professors who care about your learning experience.

I would say the best thing about Morgan is the fact that no matter the size of your graduating class, you come to make a lot of friends and family within your time at Morgan. The entire campus is full of life and that family feel. It’s funny when I tell people that I go to Morgan State University their reaction is usually a disapproving one. I usually just smile and ask them if they knew that Morgan State University has been included in a very elite group of colleges and universities around the country, named one of ‘America’s Best Colleges’ recently by Forbes Magazine. Listed among the top quarter of the nation’s colleges and universities, Morgan also ranked among the ten best historically black colleges and universities. Or that Morgan State University is ranked among the top 25 best Colleges and Universities for Hispanics and Women by Hispanic Network, Professional Woman, and African American Magazines. Or that Morgan ranks #18 in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities ranking. Their response is usually "oh, no...I didn’t know that" Morgan is a school full of activities and school pride. There is always something going-on on campus whether it is a sporting event or a Theatre show...you will never find yourself with nothing to do. I love Morgan, but if I could change one thing it would probably be more food options on campus...but that is what delivery is for, right?

I absolutely love attending Morgan State University. As a transfer student, I was looking for a school that promoted "activity", and oh did I find it at Morgan! Not only is enrollment in organizations promoted, but encouraged. Our administration is another reason why I love Morgan. Under our new president, he is not only looking to uplift and empower the students, but looking to change the overall perception of Morgan in Maryland and throughout the world. What does this mean for us? It means that when we graduate, our degree will be revered by the likes of both Howard (and HBCU) and Harvard University's alike. The admin is really working for us! The walk from building to building is relatively short, and unlike other colleges I've seen, there are places to shop, eat or vend across campus. Baltimore's Inner Harbor is a short drive away so Morgan's proximity to everything is great.

It is a HBCU college, i would change the fact that they dont have soccer as a school sport, it is just right, they react normal when i ask them to go to the school. Yes I do spend most of my time on campus, The school administration is average to me. No recent controversies for me. Yes there is a lot of school pride. The parties is something unusual about the school. The Most frequents student complains is the the school canteen food, and the fact we don't have a soccer team for Males by Mostly African males.

My overall opinion of my school is that we need more protection and security cameras on campus.

Morgan State University is an accredited HBCU that offer many opportunities to current and prospective students. Morgan State University is just right to start your higher educational goals. The campus is very huge that i sometimes don't know where to spend my time. The library is the best area to study, the student center is the best place to relax by watching a good movie at the theater every hour or by buying some foods at the cafeteria when i am hungry. Most often, i relax at the lounge of the business school by studying or taking a nap. Overall Morgan State University is the place where you can meet people with different backgrounds due to its huge diversity. Being a student at Morgan State University open wonderful doors to my educational goals and i am succeeding in every step i have taken so far. Morgan State University is like a family to me with the wonderful professor and staffs.

Morgan State is known for excelling in not only sports, but academics as well. The beautiful campus is about 20 minutes from the inner harbor. The best thing about Morgan state are the people and the since of pride that Morgan bears feel when we have home games. The feeling is comparable to being at Oriole’s baseball game with all of your friends and family there. I spend most of my on campus in the engineering building and murphy’s fine arts building. These two buildings give Morgan its name. Morgan state is well known for its engineering program and for its renowned classical choir. Most people perceive the school as being just a simple black college or a ghetto college in the hood. It’s actually more refined than people think. In order to get the best of out of any school, including Morgan state, one must stay optimistic and open minded.

The experiences you can gain from the Morgan State University is definitely what the student makes it. Some students will have a ton of complaints about Morgan but often those are the students that had a perfect "media condensed" view of how college should be. Students at Morgan State will often say things like. "I thought Morgan would look like "Stomp the Yard". This statement can be true. If a student comes to school and makes changes to their university instead of just letting what they don't like survive on campus then of course that student will not like that university. As a student at Morgan State, you definitely have to be the change you want to see. A change that is not in reach of the student is the administration. The administration in the financial aid office is one that has been complained about for many years but no change has come. This is the only thing I will change about Morgan and also the surrounding community of Morgan is not the greatest. Crime, especially robberies occur much more then I would expect but I believe this is due to a lack of security and a open campus. Campus police are not prevalent on campus and Morgan is a open- campus. This should require a much larger staff of Morgan State police but it obviously does not. The surrounding community of Morgan is not the greatest but it does have it's perks. The elder people of the surrounding community often express how glad they are of the students. They will stop a student and give them words of encouragement such as "you are our future". This really makes the students have a sense of accomplishment and prestige within the community. The sense of prestige the students gain attributes to the orange and blue pride. The students at Morgan State University have a great sense of pride. "Bleed orange and blue" is a statement that highly regarded in the Morgan community. Also the fight song can often spring out randomly at Morgan events. Morgan can be a great school. Many of the students know one another so there is a high level of unity with in the Morgan State community. This portrayed well when Barack Obama was elected president. All students where outside until about two or three in the morning having a great time. There was music being played, students where just happy and excited. The election of President Obama really made the Morgan community, along with other predominantly black communities feel like we accomplished something as a whole, together with unity. November 4, 2008 was the most memorable experience i will live with forever from Morgan State University. All in all Morgan State is what you make. The campus is not just beautiful to look at, it is also a beautiful community based on pride that can offer a great experience to a diverse group of students.

My overall opinion of Morgan State is that though there are something's that can be improved the the overrides the bad. For instance we have great staff and administration. The people try to be as helpful as they can and some even bend over backward just to see that you are taken care of. Also the teachers know you by name and always answer your questions as many times as you need whether during office hours or via email. The food I'd tasty and affordable, and the students are accepting and fun. On the down side, the organization and timeliness of the help isn't always up to par when it comes to the offices and there has been a conterversy about crime on campus. If I could change one thing it would be to make Morgan State a closed campus. By doing this it would lower the crime rate making our campus safer.

The best thing about Morgan State University is the spirit of the students on campus. When there are events and things planned the students stand together and have such a pride about the school. Morgan state is the perfect size university althought it's approximately 8,000 students enrolled it seems so small especially once you get involved in different activities and student organizations. I do wish that I can change the cafe eating on campus there isn't much food choices or variety. I enjoy the close knit relationship you can built with the administration and staff especially when you get settled in with your major and advisors. If I'm not in class I spend a lot of time in our new university student center that's the core of campus and where plenty events take place.. People always give me positive feedback when I tell them I attend Morgan. The administration is good but like any other university things get hectic at times when dealing with a school as big as Morgan. Overall I love Morgan State university , it is a friendly and eager to learn environment

You most likely will find a crowd of people that you can connect with because there is a lot of diversity. In addition, if you pay attention you will learn something. Unfortunately, the food is not that great. Its okay at best with a few food items that are good. One experience that I'll always remember was being apart of the original rawlings steppers! yeaaaaa

The best part about Morgan State is the passion the faculty and staff have about the university. The majority of the workers from the deans to the janitors are Morgan alumni. Everyone bleeds orange and blue! There is nothing that I would change about my university. The campus is not too large and not too small, its just right. Whenever I inform someone that I am a Morgan student, they automatically get excited and have stories to tell. Everyone loves Morgan! There are over 300 student activities on campus so no matter what you are interested in, Morgan has it. We are an open campus and because of that, we have our own police department right on campus to ensure our safety. Aside from the normal homecoming, our university also has "I Love Morgan Week", which is another fun week of activities where the campus comes together and shows how much we all love our university. From our highly recognized engineering program to our Earl G. Graves School of Business, education at Morgan is top of the line. Our univeristy is constantly improving. We are currently renovating our academic quad and we have a brand new 65 million dollar library that is only a few years old. From school pride to the academic opportunities all I can say is; I love my HBCU!

Morgan State University is an outstanding HBCU. Recently, Morgan was featured as one of the nation’s best colleges by Forbes Magazine 2011. Several undergraduate and graduate academic programs have been implemented in the school’s curriculum. Online degrees can be earned in several programs. The best thing about Morgan is the diversity of students; however, there are more blacks due to its location and it being an HBCU. Morgan is well known for its outstanding performance in producing excellent Engineering and Business students. So if you are looking into furthering your education in fields related to Engineering or Business, Morgan is the place for you. If you are concerning other majors, that is also a good decision, just ensure you outshine wherever you are because that's what counts. The University Student Center and the Richardson library being amongst the newest and most magnificent buildings on campus happen to attract students. In addition, the administration at Morgan is really impressive; the President of Morgan State University, Dr. David Wilson is a great leader. Town hall meeting takes place every semester so that students can voice their opinions. Professors are very helpful; utilizing their office hours will make school much easier. Frankly, the only place that just about every student has an issue with is the Montebello complex, precisely, Financial Aid. If you are lucky enough to have no issues with that department, then school will be so much blissful. There is a lot school pride here at Morgan; students love to flaunt their blue and orange outfits. Also, students participate in community service in and outside the school. The "I love Morgan" day is a very grand celebration in which programs could last for a week. I will always remember my inauguration into the honors society and recognition as a 4.0 scholar in the School of Engineering. That's one thing you will love about Morgan, the outstanding students are always recognized and celebrated.

Our best feature is our president, Dr. David Wilson. He is an innovative revolutionary, and through him, the gates to our world-renowned success will be achieved. He exercises principles of taking action, rather than sour complaining or idle discussion. Unfortunately, our worst feature is yet to be determined; it’s either the students, or the rest of the staff. As a first-semester freshman, all of the professors I’ve encountered have blessed me with generosity and dedication. Yet, the students more than often choose not to return that same fervor. On that same note, though, the professors aren’t the only Morgan staff. Our most frequent complaint falls under the responsibility of the admissions department. They are disorganized, usually present a less-than-enthusiastic attitude about the services they are being paid to provide—there are major deficits in commitment on either side of the spectrum. Our president deserves a stronger, more unified front.

As a new transfer student, I was not sure what to expect from Morgan State University. After realizing a wrong fit at my first college, I was weary of making the wrong decision twice. I am now two months into the Graves School Honors Program at Morgan, I cannot say enough about the dedication and commitment of the team leading this program. Their interest in our learning motivates us everyday to go beyond our own expectations. This is what the college experience should feel like. Thank you GSBM. Proud to be Graves Honors.
