Quinnipiac University Top Questions

Describe the students at Quinnipiac University.

Adam

Diversity is something that we only read about in pamphlets and watch on television. Most students are of higher socio-economic background, and most have no regard for the worth of a dollar. Designer brands reign supreme, kids drive cars most middle-aged people dream of, and an overall lack of monetary graciousness is abundant. However, there are definitely those who don't live in such a way and understand the value of a dollar. The students are so apathetic that most don't even realize that we have a student government. Organization of students around an issue has never really happend, except for the recent school paper fiasco.

Hayley

One problem is that there is certainly not enough diversity on campus. Most students are white kids with middle to upper class backgrounds from the northeast. However, there are other ethnic groups and clubs. For example, the Latino Cultural Society seems to be an interesting and enthusiastic group on campus. The society hosts many events on campus. Most kids wear sweatpants, jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts to class. It's very casual. Unless you are a business major, then you might have to dress up for presentations, etc.

ashley

no student feels out of place really, except people who listen to metal music (come please) there are many diverse groups here, but some dont do a good job with their groups. most students wear sweatpants to class, or wear leggings. most qu students are from new jersey or new york.

Ashley

Not diverse enough

Steven

We are not a diverse campus. We are a middle to upper class student body and predominantly white. Most students stick with their roommates and that's all they need. I would guess that most students are politically apathetic and couldn't tell you a thing about the upcoming election (myself included). Anything that has been said about the Quinnipiac student body is generally true.

Lindsey

I find that most Quinnipiac students are from NY, MA, CT, and NJ. The campus has been mostly white students in the past, but I am finding that more and more races, religions, and cultures are being represented here. Most students are "preppy"...they have the UGG boots and Coach bags, but there are also those who choose to be out of the mold that that's fine too. Depending on what clubs you choose to be involved in depends on what types of people you meet...I suggest getting involved because the campus is small enough where you will get to know a ton of different people on campus that way.

Stephanie

Quinnipiac lacks diversity. Alot of white people. Alot of people where designer clothes but at the same time others dont. QU student are mostly wealthy and from the Tri state area. Some studentws are politically aware. Alot have done thigns with recylcling and the genocide in sudan. Students dont seem to talk alot about what they learned during the day.

Amanda

They're pretty sweet.

Morgan

Most students are white. Most students are from Connecticut, Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts. I love the fact that all my friends are close when i am home from the summer. My furthest friend lives 4 hours away but there is always the train.

John

Quinnipiac is not very diverse. I am not a big fan of this lack of diversity. I like people no matter what color their skin, what religion they are, or other diverse factors. I do not think that any type of student would feel out of place here except perhaps a punk rock type of person. Students wear a variety of different things to class. Some kids dress up, while others just wear sweatpants. A vast majority of the students here are from wealthy families, however there are people different economic backgrounds. Not many people are pollitcally aware. I think that students here would vote for the candidate their parents were voting for. Some students talk about goals in their prospective careers, however not too many do.

kristin

i dont know about how much they'll earn but i would say qu is more upper middle class; minorities probably feel out of place; tables are much like meann girls with the jocks at one table, more popular kids at another, but there are also people that eat alone. ive seen girls who get up and shower and do their hair with tons of make up and then people that wear sweats..that varies..as for political views..i got nothin

Katelyn

Quinnipiac is typically a pretty "white" campus, however the campus is constantly chirping diversity. Classes such as QU 101, our freshman seminar, are meant to bring the campus together and talk about such issues as diversity. There are many groups of friends but you'll find that many of the groups overlap with intramurals, classes, and group projects. The students don't generally talk about politics, but there's a group for everything.

Shelby

Quinnipiac does not look very racially diverse, but diversity is everywhere, and there are a lot of diversity programs and trainings, such as the Diversity Conference. About 1/2 of QU's students dress up for class, the other 1/2 wear sweats. Most students are from New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Connecticut. QU is fairly apathetic, but has become more politically aware in the past year or so.

Rachel

I feel like some black people here feel marginalized. Not because the others would be mean to them, but because there are not many. It is just something to consider. Different types of students definitely interact. More students here are politically aware and active than I have ever experienced. And we DO talk about what we learned in class because we actually need to know, for tests, papers, etc. The four "tables" of stereotypes in a lunch room are probably: the preps, the jocks, minorities, and greek life.

Brianne

Any person of color would probably feel out of place here. Its sad but true. A heavy individual would also probably feel out of place because the girls on this campus are obsessed with the way they look. Typical for the winter = uggs and a north face Spring - spandex and a long shirt Typical QU student- blonde and grossly tanned Most students come from LI, MA, and NJ Students are not politically aware of anything at this school You find the people you fit in with when you come to school and they will become your friends for life. Not everyone is rich and snobby, but the majority are. I would never let them influence whether or not I transferred from this school because the education here is worth it. Im sure other universities have the same issues.

Allysa

I know that these groups are available on campus, but i am not in any. I feel like all students would fit in eventually because there are so many different clubs and people seem very accepting. Most students were sweats or jeans to class. This was a change since i used to get dressed up and wear heels, just because, during high school. I feel like people interact with everyone else and are very open-minded. The four tables would have girly girls, athletes, "emo" kids who do a lot of technology stuff, and then a mixed group of people. Most Quinnipiac students are from NY, CT or MA. The financial backgrounds vary, but many people are wealthy. I feel students are politically aware, but Quinnipiac doesn't really let people act on it. I am not sure what the political spectrum looks like for this school. People do not really talk about how much they'll earn, but rather what they want to do.

Andrea

A large majority of the students on campus are white. All different types of students interact with eachother though. Most are from the middle class or upper middle class and from the New England area, mainly CT, MA, NJ, NY, and NH. Quinnipiac students are often politcally apathetic although many groups on campus are trying to change this. Students do not get very dressed up for classes, usually jeans or sweatpants and other casual attire. The "four" tables in the dining hall do not really apply since most people are very similar to eachother. However, one type of table could be classified as the guidos, as there are some of these people on campus.

Tate

Students wear anything from jeans to skirt to sweatpants. Anything is acceptable. A majority of students are from either NY, MA, CT, or NJ. Students aren't that politically aware. Most students are from middle class backgrounds and above.

Emily

Most Quinnipiac students that I have met are from Long Island/New York or New Jersey. There is, of course, representation from other states in New England such as Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and of course Connecitcut.

Blake

There's not a lot of racial diversity here, most of the student body is caucasion. I feel like most students come from middle class backgrounds like myself, but of course there are richer and poorer students, as there are everywhere. Most of the students are from the Northeast, with similar backgrounds it seems. The range of personalities here is great, there are super outgoing, wild people and then there are shy mice. There are girls who wear dresses and heals to class and those who wear sweatpants. Everyone finds their place though, it's not hard to find friends here. And coming from me, that's saying something because I am the shyest person I have ever met.
