there are so many options and you can find this out at the fair in the beginning of the year. as freshman many students stay on campus and then as they get older go into new haven to the clubs downtown. there are always events going on on campus and they are always open to students. you will always find someone who is like you and classes are where you can meet different people from your dorm. hockey is our most popular sporting event because our team is really good. people party on the weekend thursday, friday and saturday and occasional weekdays. frats/sororities are not big on campus, they are most used for community service based and since there are no houses allowed in CT they are not treated like they are at bigger schools.

Greek life on campus is fairly predominant. There are two frats and three sororities. There is also a lot of interest in Student Government, Student Planning Board and student media groups (radio station, TV station and the newspaper). There are not too many events on campus that are well attended other than hockey games and some keynote speakers that are usually pretty interesting.
I would suggest that the first few days of freshman year you go around your dorm and campus meeting as many people you can, as these will most likely be your closest friends for the next four years. Most of the time, if you're up until 2 a.m. any night of the week you are either partying or studying. Both are very common. If you're not into the party scene, I would recommend either becoming very involved with an on campus group, learn to love studying and video games or attend another school as almost nothing can compete with partying from Wednesday to Sunday morning.
There is a lot to do off campus if you're willing to venture into New Haven. Restaurants, clubs, bars, museums, etc. are all within 20 minutes in any direction.

people party 3-4 nights a week. sororities and fraternities are fun on campus but not a huge part of campus life. its a great way to get involved.

I think there is a lot to do at Quinnipiac. There are always activies and events going on. There is a wide range of clubs and orgizations so that everyone can find one that fits them. I think the sports are a pretty big part here, but I wish there was a better fan base. I also wish Greek life was bigger here. There is also a lot to do in the Hamden/New Haven area.

There are some clubs on campus, but they are not popular and no one participates in their events unless there's free food. You meet most of your close friends in class or from your hallway/dorm. Some people party during the week, but everyone goes to New Haven on Thursday and Saturday nights, and then try to find something to do on Friday. There is some drinking on Wednesday nights. You have to have a fake i.d. to have fun though, as you can't get into the bars or clubs without one. There is nothing to do that doesn't involve drinking except going to sleep. The parties are whack, and are not big at all. Many consider 12 people sitting in a room drinking a "party." It is also a suitcase school, as many leave school on the Weekends to go visit their friends at other schools and experience a real party.

Freshman year everyone becomes friends with the floor that you're on. Usually you're picking the roomates for the rest of your four years from this one dormroom. For me I had a couple of people from my town, or the town over that we became close pretty quickly.
Partying usually consists of dorm room parties or going out to New Haven. There are only certain places that you can go if you're not 21 that will let you in anyway. There are also always a ton of campus parties going on, but they can get broken up quickly by security and a lot of students get written up for that type of stuff. One room had a blow up baby pool filled with water in their room, there have been kegs that were snuck on campus, ice louges, and there is always a game of flip cup or beer pong going on. Any card game ever created can also become a drinking game. Power hour before going out to new haven is pretty popular too. Many students pregame before going out to save money and to get the party started on the "drunk bus". Many students have puked ont he drunk bus, and that can result in a fine. You have to chose your seat wisely and always check for puke before sitting.
As for not drinking, there is always a movie playing, or a game show type event on campus, but to be honest I've never been to one. They do always have good movies, like the last movie posted was Juno. It's never movies that no one would want to see. My club hosted an Italian Feast for a night where we had a DJ, and a ton of food for one night, and also we had this guy come who took your picture on a green screen type of thing and put you and your friends in Italy. Every organization has something like that going on every once in a while, which is always fun.
There are also guests speakers like crazy, but again, I've never been interested to go, but depending on who it is Alumni Hall can be packed to over capacity. Fraternities and sororities are not big at all, we're not allowed to have houses because over a certain amount of people (really jsut girls) in a house is considered a brothel in connecticut.
Anyone can date anyone on campus, unless you're in a fraternity or sorority, they get weird about that and you can only date each other. But a freshman can date a senior, sophomore, junior whatever. Most of the time you can't even tell what year they're in unless you ask.
Rebecca
Everyone goes out Thursday nights to the same place in downtown new Haven, Hula Hanks. Saturday night everyone goes to Toads in New Haven. Everyone has fake i.d.'s. Hockey is pretty big. There is a new sports arena, but the hype has died down since it's opening, not many people go anymore. If I am awake on a Tuesday morning at 2, I would most likely be studying or doing work. May Weekend used to happen, it was awesome and the best part of QY. People party every night, but typically thursday through sat. Frats and sororities are not big. Last weekend we held our own May weekend since they took it away.
Regina
Dorms are open places with open dorms. Frats/sororites are minor. There are options run by the student programming board on weekends if you dont want to drink, but most people drink in dorms or go to bars and clubs anyway
Brett
Many people drink, but barely anyone does drugs. There are student run programs to put on fun alternatives to drinking and partying. But, personally, I just like to relax with my friends and watch a movie or something most nights.

The student life on Quinnipiac is great when it comes to sponsered events. This year President Jimmy Carter came to talk about the nuclear missles crisis. As far as dorm life, I live in the smallest dorm at the school. It's a three person per room, which really should only fit two. There are constently people breaking ceiling tiles, or chairs in the study lounge. But i trust just about all of them. If i leave my room I'll leave the door open. drinking happens all the time, but the real drinking happens thursday, friday, saturday. frats and sororities are a joke. their not allowed to have a house on campus and their parties are broke. To get the animal house feel you need to get to know someone on a sports team. If your not looking to drink there are activities and events planned every weekend for people to hang out and do whatever. personally i've never attended one but they sound like they could be fun.

The men's basketball and hockey teams are the most popular on campus. The men's hockey games have the most fans come to games. Not many students go to women's basketball games or ice hockey games. Theater is not popular either. I meet my closest friends from freshman year when we all lived in the same hall and also from being the manager of the women's basketball team I have meet alot of people. There are parties most weekends; however, they are never that big. The cancellation of may weekend put a damper on partying. Fraternities and sororities do many activities on campus and are extremely involved. Last weekend I didn't do much because it was morgue hours, so my roommates and I went off campus for dinner and a movie. Saturday night always involves drinking and going to Toads. If it doesn't we are usually on campus or going to New Haven to shop or going to the malls or movies.
Erin
The most popular sport is probably hockey. Other popular organizations are Student Government, Student Planning Board (plans events), Roots & Shoots (environmental), Quinnipiac Future Teachers Org, and the Honors Program (not open to everyone, though). There are quite a few guest lecturers each year, though not too many people take advantage of them, but they're great. I met my closest friends by just living with them in our dorm. People party Thursday through Saturday, but not everyone parties. Frats and sororities are definitely present, but they do not make up the majority of the student body and there are no frat/sorority houses on campus.
Jonathan
There are countless activities here on campus, from clubs, to organizations, and intramurals. Take your pick or be creative and start your own. They all look great on resumes, and provide you with extra knowledge and/or experience to apply to your education.
Alyss
weekends..clubs/dinner/room parties/ house parties-no real frats so that is tough. Movies/shopping common.. take the shuttle
dating....its college so there isnt that much.. but many people have boyfriends/girlfriends from home or at other schools. People party thurs, fri, sat...if u are doing it other days then you are in the minority. People stay up late and chat watch movies
No drinking- movies/shopping/ dinner/ SPB event or QU after dark.. defintely do-able
Charlie
Men's Hockey and Lacrosse teams are the most popular. Im involved with SAAC, which is student athlete advisory committe. We do community services activities. Yes students in our dorm leave our doors open. the men's sports specifically hockey and lacrosse are the most popular. Guest speakers are usually forced involved so people show. Theater: I have never been but i would say not a lot of involvement. I met my closest friends through athletics then branched off to who they knew. People party twice a week I would say. People are involved, good percentage for our campus i would say but they dont have houses so i dont think they are important, you are just paying to have friends. Last weekend I chilled in my room with my roomies and we watched some movies. Go to the activities on campus, go to a club down town in new haven.

Social life- there's just not enough to say about it. But here's the overview:
On campus- people mainly have small get togethers in their rooms. RA's usually don't bother you unless you're being WAY TOO LOUD. Which is usually never the case.
Off campus- In Hamden: easiest place to get into is Jack's. Dick's and sidestreet depends on the night, but both places have been known to take away ID's. And don't ever try going to Aunt Chilada's with a fake because it'll be taken away for sure. Also upperclassmen will rat you out if they know you're underage because it's really supposed to be a legit bar.
In New Haven: Toads (21+), Hula's (21+), Alchemy (18+), Oracle (18+), Hammer Jack's(18+)
Jamie
Nothing on campus to do. No live music(mostly due to the lack of support by the student body), or events at night. Students leave doors open first year, but after an established group of friends happens, its hard to change. I transfered here and all my friends(even three years later) are the freshmen of that year because students in my class didn't need another friend.
Andrea
Dorm life is something to get used to but is very fun where everyone can respect one another. Students always leave their door open so you can socialize with your entire floor. RA's hold events for their floor so that everyone can get to know each other better. There is no such thing at a 10 oclock bedtime and you can always find someone awake at 2 AM. Students watch TV together, listen to music, eat together, work out together, etc. I met my closest friends from my dorm. My best friends lived on either side of me my first year and then with me for my remaining years. The school is a great side for dating. There are enough different people to find and the school is a very safe atmosphere to meet people. I met my boyfriend my first year at QU as well. He lived a floor below me and we met through mutual friends. Other friends dated people we met in school and people we met outside of school. Fraternities and sororities are not that important. We have them but they are not super popular. I know other schools where frats and sororities are essential to their social life; at QU that is not the case. There are 2 frats and 3 sororities and there are many people involved. They hold events and I am sure they are fun to be a part of but they are not that important to social life on campus. If you don't want to drink on a Saturday night there are always activities that the Student Programming Board holds, like game night, movie night, etc. You can also always find students that don't feel like drinking and you can just hang out together, see a movie, go out to eat, etc. However, it is a college and there partying does happen. Everyone should socialize though and have fun. QU has busses that take students into New Haven on weekend nights. They buses have a route that they travel many times during the night so students can grab a ride into town and when they are done partying at the clubs, they can take the busses back. There is never a need to drive a car drunk! QU offers a shuttle service almost everywhere.
Melanie
There is always something to do on campus. There are almost always sports games to go to and the student programming board and QU after dark plan activities every friday and saturday night that go till about 1 or 2 in the morning. The shuttles from campus, which are free, also take you to Hamden and New Haven, where you can go shopping or to a restaurant with all of your friends. There are so many clubs that there is probably one you are interested in. There is really always something to do up here.
Casey
Most popular groups on campus: student programming board, QU after dark, greek organizations. I am in Alpha Chi Omega. The opportunities for social life and leadership are endless. Students in dorms leave their doors propped most of the time, but not open. Athletic events are moderately popular. Guest speakers are not. The dating scene among freshmen is mostly people hooking up, but other than that lets just say, there is way more of a selection for guys than girls. I met my closest friends in my hallway. If I'm awake at 2am on tuesday I'm doing work with girls in the hall. People party thursday, friday and saturday night (sometimes wed.). Our traditions are changing. Without may weekend, we are starting spirit week and so far, it doesn't fulfill any of the needs students have to party. May weekend somewhat lives on among the students. Last weekend I stayed on campus friday night to party and saturday went off campus to a house party. There are usually events planned on weekends that don't involve drinking. Off campus, we go to clubs and house parties or eat or go bowling.
