What should every freshman at Savannah State University know before they start?

John

If I could go back in time and give myself helpful advise I would tell myself to stay out of trouble. If I would of stayed out of trouble I would be currently attending college right now. I would of had money saved up so I could afford to move to the town my college is in. I would say I need to get a better job as soon as possibly and work as much as I could. I would tell myself to save more money and I would tell me to apply for as many scholorships as possibly.

I am happy with the way I transitioned into the college life and would want to transition the same way. I dont feel as if I need to tell myself anything to make my experience any different.

Simone, you are about to fly to the other side of the country to attend school, the most important thing for you to do is RESEARCH FINANCIAL AID. There is an out-of-state tuition waiver that the Registrar and Financial Aid office will not inform you of during the application process, you will have to hunt down an Assistant Registrar for information on this waiver to avoid borrowing 25,000 from a private lender. Also, the people are great but opportunity is scarce, you will have to arrange every internship and part-time job you undertake, solo as well as keep your research skills sharp. Do, attend the conferences professors ask you to, and keep up the 4.0. Furthermore, invest in a car as there are no nearby grocery stores or banks, the Savannah sun can roast you in late August when school starts and making the 2 mile walk to Target in 95degrees is enough to drive anyone crazy. Last thing, the gym is supposedly open 12 hrs/day, but the coaches rarely show, so get used to the track and buy some mase so you can jog safely in the surroundign areas! Have fun!

If i could go back in time and talk to my former self, i would tell myself to get up study, study, study.. I would say things like, "Hey, quit being lazy, a 3.2 is not good enough!) i play football so i wuld say to work hard because i did not know what i was gtting my self into when i signed up to play colleg football. The last thing i would tell myself is to pply for more scholarships and quit depending on loans.

College is what you make it. Maximum every opportunity presented to you. Learn to network with individuals that know more about your interest. Please ask questions if you are unsure about anything. Sacifice some parties to be productive in classes. Start on assignments soon as you are aware of them. Work on assignments a little at a time, so that when the deadline is approaching the final proofreading stage will be easier. Learn to try, at least you put forth an effort. Stay grounded through goals, family, positive friends and a higher being.

Perri

Perri... This is you time to do better for yourself and not be like you father and not finish high school and not even think of college. You have the chance now at age 17 to take your SAT's and your ACT's about three or four times to learn as much as you can and plan to work as hard as you can. Plan to visit as many colleges to learn about the schools advantages and weaknesses. You have to put yourself out there and let the colleges know that you?re ready to learn and get out into the world as an adult. Make sure that you push yourself because once you?re in college your under the control of your own mind; if you don?t put effort to study the grades will suffer. Allow you to have time to rest and gain peace from the long stressful days of school and working. Please be loyal to yourself and love yourself first as you grown. You?re strong enough to handle this and put you self to be you need to be in life never under estimate your ability to do good and overcome your weaknesses.

I would advise myself to take the ACT's seriously. I would tell myself to save my money I received for graduation. You need to start searching for a college as soon as possible. Filling out the FAFSA early is helpful because it is based on a first come first serve basis. Apply for college a couple of months before graduation because then you have an idea of where to start. There are a lot of organization available at college campuses and you should think about some that you would like to join. Shopping and buying things that you want is not a good idea. You should save your money and only buy things you need. Put yourself on a budget and learn how to tell yourself no. Make wise decisions and stay focused so you can become successful.

The advice I would give myself is, to always remain focus. Since the reason I am here is to better my future and futher my education of higher learning. Also that networking is everything when you reach college. The more networking you do the better. By networking you open up many doors to your future and your mind. You gain many insights in life and in other people lives. Because you alone do not live in this world, you live in it with many others. So by net working you expand your mind in many ways possible that a book never can. And utimately i would tell myself, no one can push you to better yourself but you, and one person can change the world one step at a time. And that person is you!
