Savannah State University

SSU is an HBCU, it has my exact major and it's not far from current address.

Savannah State University appeals to me for several reasons, including its strong academic programs, vibrant campus environment, and opportunities for extracurricular involvement. One of the main reasons I am drawn to Savannah State is its commitment to academic excellence. The university offers a variety of programs that align with my career goals, providing hands-on learning experiences, dedicated faculty, and resources that support student success. I am especially excited about the opportunity to engage in research, internships, and mentorship programs that will prepare me for the professional world. Beyond academics, Savannah State’s campus environment is another major draw. The university’s rich history as Georgia’s first historically Black public university creates a sense of pride and community. I am eager to be part of an institution that values diversity, tradition, and student empowerment. The campus itself, with its scenic location near the Savannah River, offers a beautiful and inspiring atmosphere for learning and personal growth. Additionally, I look forward to getting involved in extracurricular activities. Whether through student organizations, leadership programs, or community service initiatives, I want to connect with my peers and make the most of my college experience. The school’s athletic programs and cultural events also create a dynamic and engaging campus life that fosters school spirit and camaraderie. Overall, Savannah State University offers the perfect balance of academic rigor, community engagement, and a supportive environment, making it an ideal place for me to achieve my educational and personal goals.

It's pretty cool so far, I like the environment. The school is spacious and has plenty of greenery. The school also provides plenty of opportunities to extracurricular activities. The people there are also friendly and welcoming of people of all types.

I believe it is a school that makes every one feel welcome and that they have a place. The teachers are always available whether it be for a general class conversation or a to access help on any upcoming test or assignments. My peers are always friendly whether they are apart of SGA, Greek programs and or mentorship programs. The campus always encourages our safety wether it be mental health or physical safety repeatedly reminding us they are here for us and in case of any emergency campus police is available also.

Savannah State University is more than just a university to me; it is a beacon of opportunity, a hub for growth, and a home for intellectual exploration. I like it, not merely for its impressive infrastructure or diverse community, but for its commitment to fostering excellence in every student. As a rising junior majoring in Electrical Engineering, I have been privileged to experience first-hand the university's commitment to academic rigor and practical learning. The university's Electrical Engineering program has not only equipped me with technical knowledge but also nurtured my innate problem-solving skills. I am a black man, proud of my heritage, and Savannah State University has been instrumental in my journey, allowing me to excel academically while also embracing my identity. My high school GPA of 4 and my current college GPA of 3.7 are testaments to my dedication and the university's unwavering support. I firmly believe that the Global Perspectives Scholarship will further enable me to contribute positively to the university and the broader community. Savannah State University, to me, is a catalyst for change and a launchpad for future leaders.

SSU is a fun school for some, but there's room for improvement. Some things need to be cleaned up or updated, and some professors need to be reevaluated and switched to better professors. Also, the food could be a bit better, the quality is always inconsistent and they could give menus on what is there and what is not rather than wasting a swipe and finding out nothing is good. They could also put their money into better stuff and programs rather than wherever it goes. Such as just recently, the University Village, also known as "The Ville" had long amounts of time when there was no hot water for showers, this caused an uproar among the student body and the administration didn't do anything until the local news was called. However, with all the good and the bad, the people I've met and the fun I've had is something I'll remember and cherish for years and I hope for more.

Savannah State is a great HBCU. There is so much to the small, historical college. From great academics, to great sports, there isn't anything savannah state does not offer. Ive only been at the school for half a semester and I can assure you I made the BEST decision. Great instructors, great atmosphere, great diversity of cultures, the athletics are top notch, and everything is so accessible due to the size of the school. Overall, I have no complaints, and I feel like SSU does a lot right.

I love it . They make me feel extremely safe , they take time to learn their students wants and needs , and know the dos and donts of campus . i oove the psychology course , and my psychology professor . savannah state is my home away from home . <3

Savannah State is definitely my home away form home. They cater to every students in their respective fields. It’s a must you attend to feel this vibe of not only academic excellence but student life as well! Faulty and Staff are very understandable and are always a phone call away. This is perfect for new college students who are leaving home. Parents should know that’s their children are in good hands!

I love the school and would encourage young Black people to go to an HBCU because it is a completely different experience. The atmosphere is very welcoming, and students are always encouraging others to join campus activities. There is always something to do in campus.

In my opinion, Savannah State is not a school where I will be continuing my studies. Savannah State has a great student body that is very friendly. However, I do not feel as though I am being challenged in the classroom. There are also too many temptations in regards to illegal drug and alcohol usage. The professors are foreign with very thick accents which makes it difficult to understand the material being taught as well. It is very easy to just get by there. The food is not very good and the food service is horrible. The people that work at the eating facilities are very rude. Overall I would not recommend this school unless you are going to school for a good time and not a productive time.

I love how close-knit the faculty and students are; its very personable. Professors ensure that we have the necessary skills to succeed in our field of choice. The marine science program, specifically, provides students with excellent experiences to get a head start on our future careers. I wish there were more options and opportunities to lead healthy and active lives.

Savannah State University is a beautiful campus which is continually growing and being upgraded. They have a variety of majors in many fields. The sports program has had its ups and downs but when I left it seemed to be heading up. They offer excellent clubs and groups so there is something for everyone.

My opinion of Savannah State University is that the school sprint is always high no matter where you go in Savannah. I have been going to SSU since my fresh men year in high school year and ever since i have loved the campus, the teachers, and classroom size. My favorite part about the camps is the science building even though that has nothing to do with my major my visit inside was great.
