University of Oklahoma-Norman Campus Top Questions

OU is a great school to attend. There's a little bit of everything and you'll end up calling it home.

The dry campus thing hasn't really affected me. The end of big frat parties it all that really came of the dry campus. I have had an incredible experience at OU and don't particularly want to graduate.

OU's fine for what it is. It's a decent state school, and if you want to work in Oklahoma, you could do a lot worse than an OU education. It's definitely the most respected school in the state and the alumni network will help out if you seek them out. The degree doesn't carry very well nationally, and you may have trouble if your ambitions require a prestigious undergrad. I'm headed to UCLA Law and my undergrad certainly wasn't a hindrance there, although it probably was when I was looking at PhD programs. Ultimately, if you get into a top 20 type school and don't have to go 100K into debt to go there, then you really need to go. If you don't, then OU becomes a legitimate option. I could have certainly gotten into a top ten school, and regret not doing so. I think this sums up the OU experience quite nicely: it's an OK school, and most people like going there, but it's not going to persuade the best of the best that it was a good alternative to the Ivy League and comparable schools. By contrast, elite state schools like Berkeley, UVA, and Michigan offer much of the same experience as Ivies and include the great things about the state school experience. If I had to do it over again, I would have either went to Berkeley or Wisconsin.

there are a few things at OU that may have hindered my experience, but for the most part, i really liked OU. i came randomly from a different part of the country, but i found the people to be inviting. before i went to OU, i didn't know a single person in oklahoma, but some of my best friends graduated from OU with me.
