I have learned to take risks and not be afraid to try new things. Of course I am getting a wonderful education inside the classroom, but I am also learning so many things outside of the classroom and I have met so many incredible people.

Attending a Community/City college was one of the best academic decisions I’ve ever made. I have always been the kind of person that was good at everything-and yes, at first that sounds like an amazing opportunity, but in reality being good at everything leaves you in a sea of choice and I was drowning. By attending Santa Barbara City College I was allowed to explore my talents, find new career avenues, and really was able to learn about myself. I fell in love with graphic design, and not only found something I was good at, but something I was great at! Through their Graphic Design Department I learned valuable skills that have helped me find a job and build a career. I find it a testament to my education that seasoned industry professionals have commented on how good my education was, and how surprised they were that I had such practical training that made it easy for me to almost seamlessly move from the classroom to the job site. My community/city college experience was amazing. It let me grow, explore, and shape who I wanted to become.

My college experience has been great so far. I have gone through the process of finding a school that I loved, making tons of friends there, and then deciding I needed to change my major and transfering to a new school that I love which offered what I wanted and making new friends all over again, yet still maintaining the old ones. I have joined a business club which has given me the opportunity to create many great connections with the outside business world and I have learned many great things about the industry that I want to go in to. Without this college experience, I would not have all the great friends that I have today and I would not be able to go out into the world and do what I want to do. There has been just so much value to this experience that I would never take it back for anything.

College to me is like cold water thrown on my face when i'm dead asleep. I went in believeing it would be just like high school; just going through the constant routines. My very first days of class hit as hard as a professional fighter. I was completely overwhelmed with homework, and with that i was trying to determine a major that would give me the rest of my life. All around me were decisions and responsibility; both being things i just didn't have much of in my earlier years. College will give anyone a wake up call and immediatly make them grow up. This has been extremely valuable; being a twin all my life and then separatig from that lifestyle has given me a completely new lifestyle. I am my own person with responsibilities; nothing like a kid who has to feed their new puppy; these responsibilities make me more and more amazed at what i can offer to this world; its now my generation to contribute what i have to the world; college is the stepping stone to success.

Since I have been here at St. Thomas I have seen improvement in myself in many ways. Before I wasn't practicing my faith but since I came here to St. Thomas I have learned so much more about my faith in my Theology classes and now I feel like a have a grasp on my faith. My path before I got here was not clear as to where I would be heading, but with the help of my staff I have a plan and I can see where my path is guiding me in the future. Since I've been here at UST I have made so many new friendships, but what is different is that I have made them with other ethnicities which I haven't done before and I have made some great friends that I know I will keep forever. Before I came to St. Thomas I didn't know what I was going to do so I came in and really wasn't putting all my effort into it but then one of my counelors came to me and directed me forward and I haven't looked back since. I am so thankful for UST.

College has been great. I have only been in college since September, but it is such a new experience. I moved about seven hours away from home, from the secluded country to one of the biggest cities in the Midwest. Being in the city has been amazing. It has definitely been a culture shock, and I have grown to understand and accept so many different types of people and customs. I have also gained the firsthand experience of corresponding with new people. I have learned new levels of tolerance and acceptance, and I honestly think I have become a kinder more understanding person as a result of coming to college. College has definitely been a humbling experience. You see just how different it is than high school very quickly. You learn to accept people, and how to respectfully resolve conflict, well coping with probably the most significant change in your life thus far. All in all college for me has been about change; I came here rather immature and self-centered and now I believe I have changed significantly. Slowly, I have grown toward the type of person I have aspired to become as a result of attending college.

First and foremost, I have received an education that will prepare me for the business world. The University of St. Thomas prepares its students for what they can expect upon graduation. Beyond the classroom, I have made life-long friends that I know I will stay in touch with after college. My education has been more then just getting a diploma, it has been the experience that has goes with it. The reason my college experience has been valuable, in my opinion, is that in today's world a college education is just about necessary to be considered for many jobs. I have learned not only the material that relates to the field that I am studying but the professors apply the material to real world situations. This helps students understand the importance of the course work.

Meeting new people and being close to home in a comfortable and safe surrounding are has made me grow up and become more independent. I also have really began to have an amazing understanding of my field of study. The professors work as hard as they possibly can to make sure that the class they are teaching is worth the money I am paying and they always make themselves available for outside consultation. The University of St Thomas is a godsend :)
