Remember when we were kids and couldn’t wait to see what Santa left us under the tree? It was always an exciting time of year, until I learned the truth about the North Pole and all those elves. I didn’t think I would ever feel that kind of excitement again until I was in college. Coming home during the holidays was something I looked forward to each year. After months of living off macaroni and cheese, and watching every penny in my student account, those few weeks at home always recharged my batteries. My mother spoiled me with my favorite meals and the anticipation of Christmas morning was almost unbearable; it was like being a five-year-old all over again! Somehow, my parents always knew what I needed or what would make me smile. If you have a college student on your shopping list this year, here are a few gifts for college students you might want to consider placing under your tree.
1. Gift Cards
First must-have gifts for college students are gift cards. If you’re looking for an easy gift that is sure to please, grab a few gift cards in varying amounts. Popular cards include anything to do with food or coffee, as well as reloadable credit cards that can be used for any purchase. Price: $5 and up
2. Mini Portable Speaker
Second must-have gifts for college students is a mini portable speaker. Although most students spend their time plugged into their iPod or MP3, there are situations where they want to share their music (party!). An easy and affordable option is the Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker. This tiny little pod offers maximum sound at a minimal price. Price: $19.19
3. Rocket Blender
Do you have a student on your list who enjoys smoothies? This little blender should do the trick. It comes with a variety of accessories, allowing the user to make smoothies, frappes, salsas and other chopped or blended items. Price: $19.94
4. Soft Pretzel Maker
The key to any college meal is quick and easy. Thankfully, this nostalgic soft pretzel maker is both. It can make large or small pretzels in under three minutes and takes up very little room; another bonus for those trying to cook in tight spaces. Price: $19.99
5. Breakfast Sandwich Maker
Another gifts for college students is a breakfast sandwich maker. Who doesn’t love a hot Egg McMuffin? Unfortunately, most college students don’t have the time or the money to indulge their cravings; that’s where this little beauty comes in. It’s simple to use and you can rest easy knowing your student is starting the day with a hot breakfast. Price: $24.00
6. Razer Kraken Pro
College dorm rooms are rarely quiet, so playing a PS4 or other gaming system can require some effort. Let your student tune everything out, or enjoy some online gaming action, with the Razer Kraken Pro. According to Maximum PC, it’s one of the better headsets on the market. Price: $79.99
7. Netflix
Do you have a movie lover on your list? Why not purchase a year’s subscription to Netflix? It will provide endless hours of entertainment without the hassle of finding someplace to store DVDs. Movies and television shows can be viewed on gaming systems, computers, tablets and even a smartphone. Price: $95.88 ($7.99 a month)
8. 3D Doodler
Another must-have holiday gifts for college students is a 3D doodler. Science and technology students will love this gift that seems almost too wild to be true. The 3D Doodler actually lets the user create, well…pretty much anything! Imagination is the only limit to what it can do. Price: $99.00
9. Samsung Chromebook
Laptops are always a hit with college students, but some can set you back a pretty penny. The Chromebook is both light in weight and price. It’s also perfect for those who simply use their computer to surf the Web, check emails, or hang out on social media channels. Price: $248.00
10. Gaming System
The verdict is still out on whether the Xbox One or PS4 will reign supreme, but either is sure to be appreciated. Both have a ton of features that will enhance any gaming experience, but are certainly not within most college student’s budgets. The only downside is you might not be able to find one before Christmas. Price: $400.00 (PS4) and $500.00 (Xbox One)
Honestly, after living in cramped quarters for months, it really doesn’t take much to make a college student smile. You don’t have to spend a fortune, either. One of the best gifts my mother ever gave me was a day of peace and quiet. She, and the rest of my family, took an overnight trip and left me alone for the day. She even prepared all my meals. Being able to sleep and do absolutely nothing was the best gift ever!
