There’s nothing I love more than heading over to my local ice cream shop for a huge scoop of my favorite frozen treat. On most occasions, it will be something in the chocolate family, such as mint chocolate chip or chocolate peanut butter, but sometimes I step outside my comfort zone and try something different. One of my favorite haunts, Bruster’s, serves up some of the most unusual flavors I have ever seen. My kids are partial to their Cotton Candy Explosion (Pop Rocks in a sweet, blue mixture), but my husband drools over the Monkey Madness (banana ice cream filled with chocolate peanut butter balls and marshmallows). Personally, I love their fall flavors, like Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake and Winter Wonder (white chocolate with peppermint flakes). With so many wonderful flavors, it could literally take years for me to sample every one of them, but I am certainly up for the challenge!
My love for ice cream knows no bounds. In fact, I recently entered a 5K because there was an ice cream party at the finish line. Heck, I even found a headband that read ‘Will run for ice cream!’ So, imagine my delight when I found out there was a college scholarship about ice cream. It’s called the Flavor of the Month Scholarship. You simply have to write a short essay (250 words or less) describing which ice cream flavor best represents your unique personality. Anyone 13 years or older can apply. I don’t know about you, but I plan to do a little research over the next few days to make sure I find the perfect concoction to match my wacky personality. It may take several scoops to choose a winner, but I’m willing to make the sacrifice (goodbye waistline). One lucky winner will receive $1,500. It sounds like a delicious way to pay for college, but if you want to ‘lick’ the competition, you better apply soon. The deadline to enter is July 31.
