September is always a very busy time of year for students; they are learning new class schedules, getting back in the habit of doing homework (yuck!) and finding time to work on college planning tasks. Some students also have the added pressure of taking college entrance exams and completing college applications. Yikes! It’s enough to make anyone feel a bit overwhelmed. 1. Fuel Your Dreams Scholarship
Any U.S. high school or college student may apply to this scholarship sponsored by 24Seven Nutrition. Applicants must submit an essay (250 words or less) on the following topic: “How will $1,000 help fuel your BIG DREAMS?” Two $1,000 scholarships are available. Deadline: September 4, 2012.
2. Pure Water Scholarship
Did you know that 800 million people do not have access to clean drinking water? If you have an idea about how to keep water clean and pure, or have already helped people gain access to clean water, submit a short essay describing your ideas or actions for a chance to win $300. Any U.S. high school, undergraduate, or graduate student may apply. Deadline: September 15, 2012.
3. Back-to-School Haiku Scholarship Contest
DirectTextbooks.com is giving away six (6) $500 scholarships. Any U.S. undergraduate student with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher may apply. Applicants must submit an original haiku poem that captures the spirit and aspirations for the school year. Deadline: September 15, 2012.
4. CareerFitter.com Scholarship
Applicants must write an essay (150 words or less) on the following topic: ‘What is the perfect career for you, and why?’ Any U.S. college student with a grade point average of 2.4 or higher may apply. One $500 scholarship will be awarded. Deadline: September 15, 2012.
5. Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest
Any U.S. or international high school senior or college student may apply. Applicants must read Ayn Rand’s novel ‘Atlas Shrugged’ and write an essay (800 to 1,600 words) addressing one of the three topics listed on the Ayn Rand Institute website. A total of 84 awards are offered, ranging in value from $50 to $10,000. Deadline: September 17, 2012.
6. Emerge Scholarship Program
Several scholarships, valued between $2,000 and $5,000, are available through this need-based program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, female, 25 or older, and demonstrate financial need. Deadline: September 29, 2012.
7. Hit the Books Scholarship
This award is for U.S. and international students between the ages of 18 and 25. The applicant must submit an essay (less than 500 words) that addresses the importance of education in his/her life and how the scholarship money will assist his/her goals. One $500 scholarship is available. Deadline: September 30, 2012.
8. CaptainU Student-Athlete Scholarship
A total of four (4) $2,000 scholarships are awarded each year (one each quarter). Any U.S. high school or junior college student may apply. Applicants must participate in an organized sport and plan to attend or transfer to a 4-year college. Next deadline: September 30, 2012.
9. ‘A GPA Isn’t Everything’ Scholarship
This scholarship, sponsored by Cappex, is available to any U.S. high school or college student. Simply complete the scholarship application and submit for your chance to win! One lucky student will win a $1,000 scholarship for college. Deadline: September 30, 2012.
10. ‘Shout it Out’ Scholarship
One of several awards offered by ScholarshipExperts.com, this scholarship is available to any U.S. student who is 13 years or older. Just submit a short response (250 words or less) to the following: ‘If you could say one thing to the entire world at once, what would you say and why?’ One winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship. Deadline: September 30, 2012.
