Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 250 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a Kansas resident.
  3. Must attend an eligible public or private college or university in Kansas.
  4. Must enroll in a course of instruction leading to licensure as a teacher or a master’s degree in a field of education and plan to serve in one of the hard-to-fill disciplines or one of the underserved geographic areas.
  5. Must enroll part time or greater with at least three credit hours per term/semester.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a high school graduate or older.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Kansas residents who are high school seniors or older students planning to enroll in an undergraduate degree program at a Kansas college or university are eligible for this award. Students must plan to enter the teaching profession in a designated shortage area.

Additional Information: The Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to both students pursuing bachelor’s degree programs and currently licensed teachers pursuing endorsement in hard-to-fill disciplines or master’s degrees in hard-to-fill disciplines or either group planning to teach in an underserved geographic area in Kansas. First priority in awarding goes to junior and senior level college students (Freshmen rarely receive this award) and currently licensed teachers who meet the outlined criteria and provide an official copy of all academic transcripts and at least one academic, or employment-related (current teachers only), letter of recommendation. Recipients must sign an agreement to complete the program of study and teach one year for each year the scholarship is received. If the recipient selects a different major or does not teach in Kansas in the specified curriculum, the scholarship becomes a loan (with an interest rate equal to the Federal Plus Loan + an additional 5% subject to change annually) accruing from the date scholarship funds are released by the Board of Regents office.

Award Amount: Awards are for up to $5,482 ($2,741/semester), renewable. Recipients must continue to meet the eligibility requirements and reapply each year.Award amounts are based on enrollment per a semester, the funding amount will be as follows: 12 hours and higher, $2,741; 9 to 11 hours, $2,195; 6 to 8 hours, $1,644; 3 to 5 hours, $1,097.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.
