I attended the branch off of BenU at the Mesa campus in Arizona. Because we have such a small community, it is very easy to build a good relationship with the staff and professors who represent Benedictine. Overall, my experience has been great with many Professors whom I can say want to see me succeed.

Small school, easy to get around... The choice of classes is a bit limiting. There is not much around the campus to walk to and the food is sub-par.

Benedictine University is a good university to go to. I chose to go to this because it is really close by. From my accounting classes, the professors and classes are great. However, because this school has a lot of commuters, I believe there should be more seating for the students here. There can be more seats in the Goodwin building.

It’s really good. The school is diverse and amaizng the professors look out for the students and are really there to teach. However some teachers should be better about the grading. I had a class where a professor never graded up until the end of the semster

I love it. It's a small, close-knit community, where you have so much to do. Benedictine University is like a big family. Professors are mostly available, we have decently small class sizes, and people here care for one another. Looking back, I wouldn't have chosen another place to go for college.

I really like Benedictine University. Their campus looks really nice and is very clean and spaced out. I got a chance to see the dorms and I love the living situation. They have free laundry, which really stuck out to me. The classrooms are really clean and so is the campus. Benedictine is a very well taken care of University.

It was so refreshing to visit Benedictine University of Mesa! I felt right at home and can envision myself attending in the Fall. I met professors, coaches and students who were energetic and happy to be at the University. Everyone I met was very nice and had nothing but the best things to say about Benedictine. I think its a really good fit for me.

Benedictine is a very underrated university. This place is so safe and the classes a perfectly small so students can have more one on one time with professors. At first i wasn't sure about Ben U but after attending for a semester and a half i realized that is this the most friendly place to study and very diverse.

Good academics, accessible professors, and nice class sizes. The campus is a little too small and parking can be hard for commuters. The on-campus housing is pretty average compared to other colleges. Overall, I feel like my professors care about my success and I enjoy the supportive environment.

This school was definitely not the Right Choice than me. Financially , it's a very practical school, but I don't think the level of academics here suits me. Between two mandatory lab sessions I'm basically taking twenty credit hours and I still have way too much free time on my hands, which really sucks when you don't have a car and you're out in the 'burbs, 300 miles from home. : //

Benedictine University is located in a small town in the Chicago suburbs. Most of the students’ commute, but there are a lot of people who live on campus that come from the city. The diversity here is incredible. People come from all sorts of different ethnicities and backgrounds. Lots of students also partake in sports and/or clubs of all kinds. When I first committed to Benedictine, I was very nervous about the fact that it is a private, Catholic university, but I shouldn’t have worried. Everyone is very friendly, and welcoming. Yes, the school is attached to a church, but you are never forced to go to a service, and the faculty are very understanding of those who are a part of other religions and need to have accommodations for their church services. The campus itself is beautiful, with our own little lake and a central space between most of the buildings where a lot of people like to go and sit in the grass and enjoy the warm days, or build snowmen in the winter. Since we are a smaller school, there isn’t a ton to do on campus, but downtown Naperville is just a few minutes away with shops and the Riverwalk on the DuPage river that is fun to go after class or on the weekends for an outing. On campus they have ping pong tables, pool tables, arcade games, bikes, and they are building a sand volley ball pit next to the gym and sports fields, amongst other things. We have been advocating for more to do on campus, since the few of us that do live here don’t have much to do on the weekends, especially if you don’t have a car. The food is edible, but most people go to the on-campus restaurant than the actual cafeteria. Overall the campus is beautiful, and everyone is very friendly. It's a cute university tucked into a normal town, and I'm very happy with my decision to go to Benedictine.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
The summer of my high school graduation was very different from any other summer in my life. Normally, I would have been excited about taking a trip to Puerto Rico to visit my grandparents. But this summer was different. After taking off my graduation cap, I immediately started packing for my trip to Florida. And there were no plans for Disney World this time. I was preparing for college. And I was the first in my family to do so.
Now, six years later, I'm planning to re-attend. I can't say the falling economy has been kind to me. Even with an A.S., I've found it difficult to find a job no matter where I go. Frustrating it may be, I can only imagine how I would have felt if I only had my high school diploma. It's tough for everyone right now. And the only way to stay on top is to further my education.
It's easy to wait for things to get better. But my education has opened up so many doors for me in the past. College taught me that it's better to take action than to wait.
The kind of person that should attend Benedictine University should be someone who is dedicated to themself and wants to go further then a high school diploma.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
My school is very science orientated with difficult classes and teachers with high expectations because several students attending here want to go into the medical field.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
There are no recreational areas for students to just relax.There is no wifi available, and the meals on campus are not the best around. There is no transporational avaible for studnets who do not own cars for them to go to stores or downtown for food.
The school has an excellent academic reputation for health sciences, which is the field of study I chose. I feel I received an excellent undergraduate education, and was well prepared for graduate school.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about this school is its size. If you really like the small-school atmosphere, this school is perfect for you. If you prefer larger campuses and larger class sizes, this school might not be right for you.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The stereotype may be that since Benedictine is a Catholic University, that the student body is primarily Catholic and there is little tolerance for other religions. This stereotype is not accurate, there are students from various religious backgrounds and its also a very ethnically diverse.
My experience at Benedictine University has been a unique journey of learning through discovery, quality academics, and strong community.
Academics
I am a Master of Public Health student who will be graduating in the spring. At first, I wasn’t sure if an online program would be able to meet my needs because I tend to learn best hands on. However, I soon found out that the online program and the onsite campus experience are both outstanding. At Benedictine University I was challenged by the courses, engaged by the discussions, and actively learned about my field of study. Some courses required group projects which allowed me real world experience on how to collaborate with different perspectives to achieve a final goal. I also have gained invaluable experience on conducting presentations using multi-media, project management, and coordinating wellness events.
Job Preparation
I am currently working as Medical Technologist, and I am applying for jobs right now that directly pertain to my field of study in public health using the Benedictine Career website. This website is a wonderful resource available to BU students where companies can post jobs for students in all Majors. There is no need to stress about finding a job after graduating, because the career placement center is very helpful.
Financial Aid
With the rising costs of education, deciding how to pay for school is an important decision. Fortunately, BU has several ways to assist students with paying for college through competitive scholarships, financial aid assistance, and payment plan options through Sallie Mae.
Challenges
Many students, including myself have faced challenges at BU. I would say the biggest challenge is keeping up with the intense workload in some courses. What has worked well for me is to openly communicate with my professor about any confusion or if I need help. Also, students should be prepared to commit to several hours per week of study, reading, and writing (depending on whether full-time or part-time).
Lessons for Life
Not only do I feel that Benedictine has me academically prepared to enter the field of Public Health, but I feel the need to make a positive impact on the community. I am a person who places great importance on public service. I am a volunteer for St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Salvation Army, and as a member of Healthy Quest at work. I take great pride in helping others and would like to pass on the life lessons that I’ve learned at Benedictine to others.
Benedictine is a university where any student will feel proud to be a part of—it stands for integrity, uniqueness, and success. There are supportive faculty members that genuinely want me to succeed as well as driven students who were not only my classmates but became my friends. As I reflect on my challenges and triumphs as a student, I am so glad that I made the right choice!
