Bethany Lutheran College is an extremely bigoted college.
The education they offer is severely limited by their worldview, which opposes anything not exactly like the Evangelical Lutheran Synod that tuns it.
It is extremely anti-LGBTQ+. I would not recommend this college to anyone.
Kayla
I love this school. Met some of the best people, both friends and professors, and had excellent opportunities to grow my faith.
Harriet
The quality of BLC has gone down significantly in the past years.
While a handful of professors are fantastic and provide properly challenging academics, the number of students that they enroll who are vastly unprepared for collegiate academics causes many professors to teach a watered down version of their subjects. The lack of academic challenge leaves many students unprepared for life outside of college, especially when combined with the school's lack of diversity.
The cafeteria is not great. They lack basic allergen information, and provide very few options for people with even common food concerns, such as lactose intolerance, or information about nuts in desserts. This is dangerous, but they make no effort to change it.
Several dorms do not have air conditioning, and laundry is frequently stolen. The school avoids reporting sexual assaults by victim blaming and requiring impossible standards of evidence.
You'll be left with debt and a high-school-like college experience.

I love the family atmosphere of bethany! All people usually know most people! There are many things to get involved in on campus and you should never be bored. The professors are extremely friendly and always willing to help. The class sizes are be individualized making for more hands on learning.
Noah
There is an unbelievable amount of opportunity for students to get involved. Even though I'm a science major I can still be involved in sports, music, clubs, and religious events on campus. I am close with all my professors and am friends with almost all the students. My experience at Bethany has been invaluable.
Olivia
I consider myself very blessed to have been able to attend Bethany, first as a PSEO student, and then as a residential student for several years. I met fantastic people on campus - some of my dearest friends - and I know Bethany's education really set me up for success. I was able to double major (and minor), study abroad, get a good internship in Mankato, and land a full-time job before I had even graduated (all while participating in numerous extracurricular activities). Every single one of my professors at Bethany knew me by my first name, and I was able to pursue what I loved in so many areas! Bethany may not have all the bells and whistles of larger universities, but it has something way more important: faculty and staff who pour their hearts and souls into their students and go out of their way to serve you. The community at Bethany is super tight-knit and full of passionate learners, and THAT is the finest thing you can find in higher ed. I wouldn't trade my time at Bethany for anything.
Ian
Great school, safest campus, tight community, passionate and knowledgeable professors, EXTREMELY personal guidance and education.
Danielle
Love the small knit community! There’s always events around campus. Resident assistants host fun events often and some you can win prizes. It’s easy to get involved even if your not in an a sport or club! You will always feel welcomed and involved! Everyone is very friendly!

I love that Bethany helps students daily, The teachers are always available and will help a student when in need. I love that the classes are not overly crowed which means that student can get eye to eye communication with the teachers. The sports is also great and people are involved well.
Dorothea
For me personally, it suits my wants and needs to a certain extent. Some professors are hard to work with and communicate with, while others go the extra mile to help you find all that you need to suit you in your endeavors. Along with this there is always some type of event going on that always has open doors to everyone on campus.
Emmanuela
I love Bethany Lutheran
Haley
The overall energy of the campus is inviting and friendly. Everyone says hi and there is not one group of people that is superior over the other. Professors are available most hours of the day. Bethany is a great small campus that is in the heart of Mankato.
Noella
I had an okay experience here, but looking back I really wish I had gone somewhere else. If you didn't grow up going to school with all the other ELS-synod kids, you'll be pretty lonely. It's also very cruel to students who are LGBT+, and if you are liberal and pro-choice, you will also probably be mocked behind your back. There's a professor who makes racist remarks in class, a professor who was in a far-right militia, and a professor who mocked a blind student in her class. There were also some phenomenal professors, but the bad ones really make it not worth it. It really is an echo-chamber for the most part, and I wouldn't recommend it.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Bethany Lutheran College is 80%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Go somewhere you feel comfortable and don't be afraid to try new things. This is the place where you find out who you are and you can't make find your true self unless you are willing to make mistakes. Remember you are paying for your education so don't waste your education time, but make time to meet new people. You can learn inside and outside of the classroom this way.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing is lack of a coffee shop. There is a volunteer-run coffee bar which opens in the evenings, but it would be wonderful to have one open all day with a greater variety of coffee and pastry selections for a snack in the middle of the day or in the middle of the night.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
A strong Lutheran school that is well balanced with professors that are willing to help you when it is needed and lots of friends to support you in all that you do.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Small and not inherently competitive, but endowed with a great number of resources and opportunities, this school permits the self-motivated student to excel beyond what many other schools could offer.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
The kind of person who should not attend this school is somebody who is not willing to work hard and study because the teachers really care about the student?s education and it would be a real waste of their time and yours.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known how much support I would receive from the faculty and staff, the wonderful friends I would make, how accepted I would feel, and what a special place this is in general. Had I known these things, I would have been much more excited about coming, and would never have had any doubts.
