What's your overall opinion of Bismarck State College?

8 Students rated Bismarck State College

Moorea - 08/12/2024

While the general environment of the campus could be improved, the community connections it holds are valuable to students and opportunities are easily accessible to students. It's the best option in Bismarck for recently-graduated high school students to stay at home and receive an education that will still benefit them well into their careers. For students, not looking to jump straight into a university or wanting to get ahead in high school, it's a very good fit.

My college is an amazing one. It’s a safe place where students can learn to the best of their ability. It’s a place where you can be yourself and always find a area to fit in. There are many activities and clubs that are available for students to join. I’m proud to have the opportunity to go to such a wonderful campus.

It is a great place to learn and the environment is very friendly. The professors are easy to get a hold of and are there to help out the student body. The campus is a decent size, not too big and not too small. Since it is in North Dakota, the weather can get very cold in the winter, but we have what is called the Mystic Trail that connects the buildings so that we do not have to walk out in the cold.

I do like Bismarck State College, the campus is beautiful in every season and is easily accessible. You feel safe when you are on campus, including the dorms. All of the facilities are updated and kept neat, you do not feel like you are trapped in an outdated board room. I love the campus food, especially the coffee stand because I am a big coffee drinker. The professors are very nice in my classes, with the exception of a couple bad days; which everyone is entitled to. I feel as if I may approach them with any help or questions I have. However, I do not like just a couple things. There are drug users are people who partake in alcohol on campus and in campus housing. It is not so bad, just annoying when your dorm room smells like marijuana smoke. As far as the alcohol consumption goes, I am not too concerned with that. People do tend to partake throughout the week and on the weekends but there is never a loud party that is hard to ignore. The resident advisors are very nice and solve any problems you might have with other residents, depending on who you have and how motivated they are to do their job. As far as quietness goes in the dorms, I am satisfied. Also, Bismarck does not have that many clubs or social activities to participate in compared to other schools like Williston State College. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend someone to Bismarck State as I have really enjoyed my time there.

Bismarck State College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Bismarck State College?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Bismarck State College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Most importantly, I wish college credit courses would of been suggested to me. It would have been really nice and a lot cheaper to take classes while still in high school that would have gone towards general credits at college level courses. This would have given me more time and effort to focus on classes that are more geared towards my degree. Another major thing I would have wanted to know about, would of been advice on financial aid. I would have liked to sit down with an knowledgable advisor that would have roughly gone over the costs of college and shown me the easiest ways to go about finding financial aid for 4 years. Seek advise on ways to apply for scholarships that are geared twords the school and degree I am planning on going into. I would have also liked to have pushed myself to seek local engineers to job shadow or even start an internship early to see if it was the right career for me. The last thing I would tell myself is to have fun my senior high school year and be ready to buckle down and focus on the next chapter in my life.

  4. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before I came to this school I wish I had known what field I wanted to go into right away because it would have saved me a year of extra classes, money, and time. After a first year of generals I then decided to select a major. I did not need most of the classes I had taken in my general classes. It did help me get an Associate of Arts degree, but I really only needed an Associate of Applied Science degree for the program I now have chosen.

  7. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

The classes are much smaller enabling the teachers to have one on one time with students that have questions after class. It also creates a better learning environment during class as you know your teacher very well along with the students that are taking that same class. This allows you to form bonds and study groups with the other students.
