I do all my classes online so I really can't say much about it. I used to attend classes on campus so I based my answers off of that experience. I love my college advisor. I love the classes I'm taking, as well as the other students. Everyone is very friendly and respectful of one another.

I attended BCTC for around a year total on and off in 2019 and throughout COVID. The class size is amazing and the professors are reachable most of the time. The one major downside is if your expecting to transfer to a university, many of the academic advisors aren't very knowledgable on which classes you should take and which would be the most beneficial that specific term/semester (which can lead to issues later on). On-campus housing is pretty expensive due to it also being a universities on-campus housing as well. Lastly, there isn't a ton of extra-curricular activities provided to join which I hope they expand on soon.

Overall, it's a decent school, although there are some things that can use some improvement. As of right now, since a lot of classes are online, there's bound to be some rough sports when it comes to trying to transition teachers who are used to an in-class setting directly over to mostly, if not entirely, online. Some teachers a really good about keeping in constant contact with their students, as well as some advisors. But I've also had advisors take over a week to get back to me over one question. So really it just depends on who you get stuck with, and because they tend to be over-staffed in certain areas while understated in others.

Bluegrass Community and Technical College is a wonderful and unique college. The true negative is that there is no housing, cafeteria, or legitimate campus. The focus is on the academics, there are two academic buildings, the main building with the library, classrooms, and advisors and there is the science building that is full of classrooms. There are many different fields of study at this institution. The professors are very helpful. Financial aid services are not very easy to get, but much easier to deal with in person.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could travel back in time and talk to myself as a senior in high school, I would tell myself to to whatever I had to do to go to college. I'm 34 years old now, struggling to pay for one class at a time. I'm dying to take more, but I just can't afford to. At the rate I'm going, it will be years before I'm able to get my Bachelor's. Even worse, the quality of education I'm receiving leaves much to be desired. You honestly get what you pay for with community colleges, but my choices are limited. Still, I can't help but feel a small measure of pride with each "A" that I receive and each class that I complete. My courses have been far from difficult, but I feel good knowing that I have managed to balance work, school, and a marriage all the while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

  11. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

For me the most frustrating thing has been the caliber of people that comprise the student body. I've loved almost all of the faculty that I've encountered thus far, but become increasingly irritated with the high school atmosphere in almost every class here that I've taken. I'm surrounded by very early twenty-somethings (if that old) in almost every class, and often times (if not most of the time), they come to class ill-prepared and waste valuable instruction time by having the professor reiterate information he/she has already given.

  13. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

I came from a small high school with classes with only 30 people in them. I am in the same environment here and I get more one on one attention from the teachers than I would at a big university. Also, free parking, which in Lexington is extremely hard to find. I pay a low tuition price to attend and after I get my Associates Degree if I decide to attend a University I would still pay the tuition I pay now, which financially is very helpful.
