California State University-Chico

My mother who has sadly passed away when i was 11 went to Chico, it has always been my life long dream to follow in her footsteps and go to college there myself.

Personally, I liked CSU. I felt as though the staff was very friendly to everyone who was there on visitor day, and I was able to meet many of the heads of departments and professors of the school. As well as meeting the Dean of the CSU. I loved the style of the building they had being a more rustic older style, which clashed nicely with some of the more modern and newer buildings. There was plenty of nature all around and it felt cozy.

Campus is beautiful, great little college town, and feels relatively safe, but nothing special in terms of classes, professors, or engagement. My husband, myself, and our daughter are all alumni, and we'd each say similar things even though we were all different majors and attended in different decades. The current Graphic Design program is incredibly lacking - virtually no support or engagement from the professors, many of the professors are simply dis-engaged. Unfortunately, there seems to be a general lack of leadership or enthusiasm with the administration toward the students, even the highest achieving students that are applying to graduate programs don't receive the support or reach-out you'd expect when you're at the top of your class. That said, all three of us left Chico State with great memories and hope that with fresh faculty and new ideas this will be a great school for future students.

I think it's a very good school that students should go to, they offer a lot of opportunities and programs and have a sociable atmosphere. there are people that offer to help if you're struggling in some classes and almost guaranteed job after graduation.

I heard so many amazing things about it. Its seems very welcoming and safe and I am excited to enter in Fall 2024. Chico was actually my first choice for schooling since it is more affordable for my mom who is a single parent with no help. I would love to make things much more easier on her and myself money-wise. I have been accepted to Universities but they were all too expensive for my mom so I decided to go to a school that my heart was set on and the cheapest. Although it is not the cheapest route to go considering I could go to community college but I really want to be the first generation in my family to ever go to a 4-year college and make my mom proud since she has always worked so hard for me and my sibling. Chico is a very good fit for me since it has the major I have been wanting to study since 7th grade and they are actually super understanding and aware of mental health and that's something that I love.

I absolutely love Chico, I think that it is a great school and we have amazing programs. We are well known, most employers have a friend that went to Chico back in the day so connections are great. Our reputation has changed from a party school to one that has great nursing, engineering, and criminal justice majors. Our campus is beautiful, and professors will always make time for students, and they love the material they teach.

CSU Chico has a lot of programs and support available for students academically as well as for students who need housing or food assistance. Chico has a great gym (the wrec) which offers classes ranging from yoga, cycling, to zumba, and taekwondo do. No matter where you come from or what your background is, CSU Chico experience will definitely help you succeed and make you feel that you belong!

Chico is filled with nature and very kind people. All of the professors that I have met so far really do care about the students and do everything they can to ensure their student's success! There is one slight problem, however. All of us, student and faculty alike, know that we are not getting our money's worth when it comes to tuition. The students feel like they are being robbed. If I have to pay so much for tuition then I expect to be given the materials necessary for school. I understand having to pay for books since that's an entire monopoly all on its own, but having to pay for simple materials and equipment? Not to mention the student housing has their own issues. A lot could be fixed with the money that the school gets, but instead we deal with broken housing, rotten food, and a LIST of hazards that the school should be sued for. If it weren't for all the pocket picking that the school does then I would claim that college is a haven for education, and I would HEAVILY try to convince people to make a difference and go. But with everything that is going on, I honestly feel like you can get really far without going to college, but I know that deep down going to college is still something that everyone should do. Even though I feel cheated, I am still here persuing my education to do the thing that I love and get paid for it. Even so, nothing is a bigger scam than University.

I have always loved the campus, it is small but it definitely has the feeling of a community. While I do wish they offered more shops and other services, they provide enough to make it comfortable. I love the english department and the professors, I cannot comment on other department but if their anything like the english professors then they are amazing.

Chico States offers not just a college but a community. It may be a small town, but it's a small town that continuously supports the school. As for campus itself it is BEAUTIFUL! There is a river that runs through campus and plenty of trees/nature that on a warm day makes the perfect place to sit and get some homework done. Classes sizes could definitely use some work as I'm sure most public colleges would say, however as you work your way into major specific classes the sizes get more reasonable. In my experience, both departments that I spent my four years in (Psychology & Sociology), my professors were nothing but extraordinary. I would be lying if I said that there are no "bad" professors, but the majority of professors you will experience are truly there to provide students the most support and quality education as possible. Outside of the classroom there is plenty to do to keep you occupied! There are clubs, honors societies, and especially Greek life! Greek life has a definite presence on campus and it's almost impossible to miss Greek house right across from campus. Greek life doesn't feel pushed into your face, but is a definite opportunity to create another sense of community/family on campus. Overall, Chico State offers an amazing experience both in the classroom, out of the classroom, and even off campus. It truly does feel like one big community.

Chico State was my saving grace as a student. I had applied to several much larger school, but the moment I set food on campus, I knew I was home. It is large enough to get the college experience, but small enough to be known. There are ample opportunities to get involved in a menagerie of activities, ranging from going Greek to local and national politics, and from art to intramural sports. Alumni Glen is my favorite place on campus. Located right at the heart of the college, and on the bank of Big Chico Creek, AG is a respite that is often overlooked; it provides sanctuary in the busy and bustling day-to-day college grind and has tables and benches for either study of leisure. The school also has ties to the community in just about every field. It was nice to feel like a valued part of Chico by going into the schools and helping kids learn to read. Other majors also have connections that allow for interactions with local businesses. The partnership between the college and city is vital to the success of both. I cannot imagine having done my undergrad work at any other institution. I'm so thankful for my time in Chico and look forward for the opportunity to move back. My mentor said it best: Chico is a place of little significance, unless you've actually lived there.

Chico State was the ultimate college experience! it was a lot like what you see in the movies - part Animal House, part Legally Blonde, part Dead Poets Society. An abundance of activities both academic and extra-curricular, all of which made the classrooms as entertaining and enriching as the frat parties on the weekends. I graduated from Chico State in 2009, before the boom of social media and selfie culture. College was an experience that you had to live, not just post about on Instagram. I was part of the best-run college newspaper in the county, The Orion, even serving as the editor of the Entertainment Section for a semester. Chico State has an amazing art scene, activist culture and a balance of social and academic life. It is the perfect college choice!

Overall it is a pretty sweet school! I am from Chico and have always enjoyed the town and campus. All of the nature surrounding the buildings and the students advertising their clubs and such are always cool to see while heading to class. The work load is not too much but also not too little, and the professors are always up for a heating debate over a certain topic.

My overall opinion about California State University Chico is that it is a good school.Professors seem to care about students. Also students seem to get along with each other and talk among them. Housing seems pretty good. Food doesn't seems the best but the not worst. Overall it seems like a great school and are considering in attending.
