Central has a great variety of options and groups to join- i'm in a sorority, where I've met tons of amazing people. The campus is always bringing great speakers and entertainment to campus.

most of the time in dorms, if you are on a friendly floor the doors are open to get to know people but the best way to find your group on campus is by doing sports or going greek. I am in a sorority and i dont know where i would be if it wasnt for them. another thing a lot of people do is join organizations for their majors.

Some popular groups that CMU has to offer are the greek life, IM sports, clubs that are related to majors and future careers and many leadership programs. A particular program that I'm involved in is Leadership safari which prepares students for success at the same time making them aware of what the real world is going to hold for them. I personally love this program because it gives new students a chance to look at their own personal image while creating bonds with other new students and also helps students become famaliar to the CMU campus. For the most part, athletic events are pretty popular with the most popular event being football. Weekends at CMU consist of studying and going out. In general, CMU students work hard to play hard. The people that i'm peronally close to live by that motto and to us academics is the first priority. Partying is a big aspect of student life but there is also so much more that CMU has to offer. A weekend can also be spent at the gym, going to the casino, hanging out with friends, going to the movies or theater, or going down town to just hang out.

i think alot of people are involved in greek life. there are many different activites people can be involved in and they are easy to find

Football is huge at CMU. It's the one sport that CMU is consistently enthusiastic about. We do have some interesting events that happen at CMU. I personally enjoy the comedic stand-up shows that come to CMU. This Friday I will be attending Jim Norton. In the past I have seen Jim Gaffigan, Stephen Lynch and unfortunately I missed Jim Brewer. Those are some pretty big acts relative to the comedy world. Though I have not been impressed with the selection of musical artists that have come to CMU in the last couple years (including Lil Scrappy and the upcoming One Republic/Fabolous show).

I think Greek life is very popular on campus. They are very involved and always have different things for you to do.

Some dorms have the reputation of having their doors always open. I live in Barnes and we are relatively a small community of only 160 students and we have our doors open all the time. However when one goes to the towers, he or she will find that almost all the doors are closed because it is hard to get to know 400 people in your hall rather than just the 160. I am involved in Sigma Alpha Epsilon and it is a social fraternity. We are composed of the male leaders on campus and strive to be True Gentlemen in our daily lives. We are not the typical frat. and we are called a Fraternity of brothers because we are dispelling the stereotypes of greek life. We do not haze and have a no tolerance policy on this unlike some greek organizations here and around the U.S. People usually party thursdays and saturdays with fridays as their day of rest. However there are many alternatives to doing these activities. Many nights there are events around campus going on, video game tournaments, athletic competitions, contests or speakers that students can go to to have fun.

Football games and tailgating are a blast. So much fun and good times are had in that parking lot. Fraternities and sororities can play a major part in someone's college career. I think they are given a bad name, but in the end, it's something you will never regret. The experiences and moments you have with your brothers you will never look back on. It's just something hard to describe until you go through it all!

Pretty interesting.

I think that IM sports, club sports and Greek groups are the most popular, whether its social greeks or some sort of co-ed fraternity. I think a lot of students go to athletic events but they aren't as popular as they were in my high school, we have a lot of guest speakers, in classes and not in classes. Dating is big, a lot of people date within their groups, like Greeks date other Greeks but a lot of people also just date without a group. My closest friends are my sorority sisters and a girl from my leadership safari group. If I'm awake at 2 am on a tuesday I'm up talking to my boyfriend or watching a movie with him. People that do party I think party like a few times a week, not that much though. Sororities and fraternities are very important I think, I am in one and it helps a lot with everything. Last weekend I participated in Mock Rock for Greek Week and studied. On a saturday I stay in and watch movies with friends, go out to the movies, go bowling and different things like that.

I guess the most popular events are the football games in the fall. Central does not charge students to enter the stadium and watch the games. Central Michigan has a program called On-the-fly, this program is ran by students and is in charge of getting entertainment to come to our school, some of the entertainers they have got were, Dane Cook, Stephen Lynch, T-pain, Bobby Lee, Hypnotist guy, and many more.

I am invovled with the Student Dietetic Association, which is a group for my major in which we go out amongst CMU's campus and help with nutritionally related programs. When looking at dorm rooms, I can tell from experience that the Towers is the most friendly and open place to be. Living in Carey my freshman year, everyone door was open 24/7. I even had people from other Towers just stop by to say hi and introduce themselves numerous times throughout the year. I have heard that some of the other dorms are a little more reserved, yet I think it is easy for any student to make friends as long as their is some effort. I met my closest friend here within my sorority.

This is another great part of CMU. The activities that are on this campus are unlimited. Seeing how there are over 260 registered student organizations, there is a great opportunity to get involved in anything that best fits you personality. The importance of a Fraternity's and sororities on this campus, seems to be growing more and more compared to the earlier years, when they did nothing but party and haze people. Mount Pleasant in itself is a good smaller town. there are multiple things to do on and off campus during the weekends. Whether and program is going on, you go watch a movie, or you go bowling.
jake
im in lambda chi alpha fraternity. theres a good mix with in the greek community, but outside that theres no meshing of student body. the greeks on campus arent welcome by non greeks or administration/professors. they are very frowned apon and believed to be bad students and cheaters. professors mark you down or grade harder if they know your Greek.
Christina
Greek life is a big involvement on our campus, but it could be bigger. Drinking does play a huge role in our community because there is not much else to do at night in Mount Pleasant. Movies are very expensive and you can only go bowling so many times. Athletic events are popular because of tailgating. Most students don't even make it into the games. Our theatre is very small and most students are not interested in the shows. Sometimes, students will turn out for guest speakers, but most of the time, they do not. People party every day of the week.
Tina
GREEK LIFE. Just kidding I dunno. I am involved in a sorority. When I lived in the dorms we kept our door open (at the beg. of the year at least) Athletic events aren't that popular unless there's a tailgate. I like the comedians that come. My closed friends are my best friend from home, my roomate from freshman year, and my family tree in my sorority. I am not awake at 2am on tuesday or I am grumpy because I am studying and all i want to do is sleep. Greek week, thursday bar nights, st. pattys day, tailgate. It depends on the person- each person parties a different amount. Greek life is very important. Last weekend I had mock rock on friday, went out and celebrated. Sat I stayed in with my roomate and cleaned my room. On saturdays I can cuddle in my bed and watch movies, go to the movies, go out to eat, hang out with my roomates, clean my room, or do homework. Well I live off campus so I sleep, do homework, eat, shower, basically daily activities of life.

Greek life at Central is growing every year. Most dorms are very friendly living spaces, who truly do leave their doors open. While walking to classes people will hold doors open for you and smile. I like to believe that Central is a very friendly campus. I met my closest friend at Central through my current roommates. It was kind of a fluke incident and we have been best friends every sence. There are many things to do at Central that dont involve drinking. All of our sporting events are free to get into and that helps to get students to go.
Chris
Sigma Alpha Epsilon is a social fraternity that I am a member of. With fraternity and sorority life there is a lot of interaction between groups in things such as IM sports, philanthropy, and socially. This makes it very easy to meet new people from all walks of life and areas of campus that you may never have met otherwise. Some of my closest friends are my brothers in SAE, and through them I have become better acquainted with campus and other groups.
Ryan
well i don't know if there is a more popular group, but greek life plays a big role in my life. when i joined a sorority i had no idea the impact it would have. it has caused me to blossom as my mom would say. i have had so many opertunities throught greek life that i would have never known about if i hadn't joined.
Ben
The social life here is awesome. There are always parties if you want one, groups to get involved in, the towers are a great place to make friends and so on. I believe the fraternities and sororities are very important. It is a great way to make friends and they can help the campus better itself. If we dont want to drink on a Saturday night, then go to the movies, rent a movie, workout, run, homework, play video games, be a DD (designated driver, someone will need one!), etc...
