Easter Michigan University is a great college! There is a ton of diversity and inclusion in classrooms, sports, extracurriculars, etc. I have crossed paths with many different people with different backgrounds and we came together to learn the material for our class. Unfortunately, not every school is going to be perfect and there will be a professor, classes, and activities that one may disagree with, however, EMU is great for meeting people, making connections, and getting a good education.

I think Eastern Michigan University is great for individuals based in Michigan not looking to travel too far from home. It is a great university if you are unsure of your ultimate career goal and looking to find yourself. There is a very diverse population and room for exploring new things that may normally be out of your comfort zone. I believe the professors are well-organized and proficient in the topics they teach. However, Eastern Michigan University is very expensive and lacks financial assistance for students who need support.

Overall the school isn’t bad, it’s just the food services could be wayyy better! And the activities on campus are kind of underwhelming, I feel the “school spirit” didn’t really hit this past Fall 23 semester and it was kind of disappointing honestly. But the campus life itself isn’t too shabby I made plenty of memories with friends and the campus is easily mappable if you are ever scared of being lost you’re sure to find your way around or easily able to ask a friendly student who’ll help you find your way around. The atmosphere is very friendly it’s just some days especially on weekends it’s soooo boring. That’s where my biggest complaint is, the fact that we pay thousands to stay in dorms and experience college life but everything’s closed when commuters are gone.. why is the campus only lively during the week and not also on weekends.. we gotta do better eastern!

Eastern Michigan University is a place where you can feel at home and comfortable studying. There is not a place on campus that I would not want to study at, and the Eastern Markets around campus are great for a snack in between classes. The overall campus is very clean and beautiful, especially in the fall. I'm very proud to have made the decision to come to Eastern Michigan University.

it is a diverse school with plenty of opportunities and places to be involved. There is always someone interesting to talk to and for the most part everyone is very pleasant. The classes offered are really unique and while we're there we are almost required to expand our horizons beyond the classroom.

I came to Eastern Michigan in fall of 2019. I was nervous about being on campus and away from home but I quickly felt like I belonged. I enjoyed my freshman year classes; my professors were always prepared and accessible when I needed assistance. As a black girl going to a PWI, I didn't feel like an outcast. Majority of the students are respectful, warm, and welcoming which is important so you can feel comfortable. I am confident in my decision to stay at Eastern Michigan University to continue my education.

I love my school. I love my program of study and all of my professors. The campus is peaceful and it’s always something to do. You can always find your place with all of the student Orgs. There are always some changes going on and they always try to make it better.

Eastern Michigan University is a very nice institution to attend. There are many opportunities to connect with others, to explore your interests, and to have fun. The environment the staff and students create gives off a safe and comfortable essence. If anyone is looking to go to a great college to obtain a degree in your dream career, I would recommend this one.

Eastern Michigan is a diverse school and is known for its inclusive environment for students of every race, religion, gender, and sexual orientation. While EMU isn't a perfect school, it holds a lot of character and community. Many professors care about their students and in my experience, have shown this care by offering support and extra help. The campus itself is fairly average, and the dorms can be hit or miss. The food on campus is also hit or miss sometimes. Overall Eastern isn't the best of the best, but it has many characteristics that make me proud to be an Eagle.

Eastern is a university that exposes you many different cultures and types of people. There are many clubs and organizations to get involved in and it's not that hard to create your own. The campus always has something going on, so if you leave your dorm room, you can always find something to do . Overall, the university is a great place.
Jameel - 06/06/2020
I really like EMU. I've had the opportunity of making a lot of friends very easily through activities held at the school and I was able to reach out to my professors easily through my first year of learning. The school wasn't my first choice when I thought about colleges to go to but it ended up being a college that I enjoy attending.

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) takes students involvement very seriously. From Greek Life to Student Organizations to Student Leadership to Faculty Approachability, EMU is there for you. I had the pleasure of being a leader of a student organization centered on mental health awareness and suicide prevention and serving on a student leader board that worked directly with various administrative staff, including the Board of Regents, and student government to make my dream of leading this organization a reality. EMU even set up Leadership camps to help students share ideas, support each other, and strengthen their leadership skills.

I love the way it’s changed and shaped new ideas for me! It’s so diverse and accepting of everyone. Though, I feel like most students, who I’m at least in class with, aren’t in the right mindset or they’re there because they have to be not because they want to be.
Calley - 02/14/2020
They could be a little more focused on the current students. It’s a largely commuter school. So there are little activities to do on the weekends. The food could use a major improvement. Meal swipes also should be able to buy more then 8 things from the markets.
JuKarra - 02/07/2020
As a whole, Eastern is a great school when it comes certain to academic and but it lacks in diversity and inclusion for minority students on its campus. The campus does not feel welcoming or safe for minorities students. There is separation between majority and minority students.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Eastern Michigan University is 72%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I have gotten the experience of being on my own. Learning in the college setting and taking my education to the next level.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
I feel that my peers lack school spirit. I love my school, and if the school promoted more of its sports and programs then more students will be able to take pride in their school.
My classmates are typically either really oppinonated and open in class lectures, or they are quiet and more resereved; it really just depends on the class I am taking at the time.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Eastern is really diverse and they provide many oppurtunities for students to reach their full potential in life. I love the campus because it's not too big and the classrooms are stull good to build a connection with the teacher.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I would have known that there were so many hoops through which I would have to jump to get to the place where I wanted to go. It was not clear at the time (1968-1970
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The stereotype Eastern has is the cheap black school. This is incorrect, while we do have a larger body of blacks than most, there are just as many other races and ethnic groups. The cheap stereotype comes from our lower tuition rate, which makes the school more affordable, not cheap in a rundown way.
I love Eastern Michigan University. I have had my fair shares of issues with the school, like problems with figuring out financial aid, registering for classes, and Professors who were just flat out rude. However, this school has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. For the most part, the people there are very friendly and accepting. I have been able to get help whenever frustrated and needing answers. My current GPA is so much larger than high school and it's because I am actually enjoying my classes and eager to learn. I am so proud to be an Eastern Eagle, and my fellow classmates seem to feel the same way. There is so much support at every event I have ever gone to (from football games to poetry nights). I have never seen such a diverse group of people be so supportive and accepting of one another as Eastern Michigan students and staff. It is just a great environment that I will always love and remember. College has been so special to me and I am just a commuter. The life of a student living on campus is even more enjoyable. They are front and center in the action and get to participate in many of the great events that Eastern has.
To be honest I am not sure what this question is asking so I am just going to go with what I think it's asking. Eastern is a fairly easy school to enroll in. They understand that standardized testing does not prove your academic ability and because of this the ACT and GPA requirements are not as high. This does not mean the courses available are any less trying. It is like any other university and it depends on the professor you have to determine the level of difficulty.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
This is something I am not sure I am qualified to answer. I am not really involved with any particular group or activities on campus because of the amount I work. Though if i had to guess I would say it is Greek life and the LBGT community.
I have enjoyed majority of the classes as I have had a Eastern Michigan University. They challenge me without overworking me. Many of my classes have been very interesting and engaging. I think I have only had a handful of classes that I sincerely did not like and that was because I did not like the Professors' teaching styles. I am a big visual learner. I also love listening to lectures that are direct and give me the information I need. The class that I least enjoyed did not give me the information I needed directly and my grade relied heavily on reading of a text book. That's just not my thing.
Well, I realized it was the only school from the 11 that I applied where I would know my professors and they would know me too. I also got the chance to work on undergraduate research 1st semester 1st term and a really good scholarship
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
97% of students attending Eastern Michigan University receive some sort of financial aid.
48% were awarded federal grants.62%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
