What's your overall opinion of Iowa Wesleyan University?

10 Students rated Iowa Wesleyan University

I love how small the campus is and everyone knows everyone. We are big family on campus and off, I feel like everyone looks out for everyone. The academics are good here and the professors actually care about you as a whole. The classes are small so you get a lot more one on one time with professors and always reply to you in an adequate amount of time.

Good overall school great learning environment

Brittney - 11/04/2019

I transferred in and was only in the teacher education program. The professors in the Program don’t really care about teaching. They pick their favorites and if you are not one of them then you struggle. You don’t get feed back on assignments and the do not prepare you for teaching. The professors in the teacher education program talk badly about students who o each other. Over all, they do not care. The push you through the program.

Elizabel - 08/22/2019

It's a clean campus. Everyone is super nice and always positive. The professors would do anything to see you and talk to you about your courses. The events are really well organized and it's always fun meeting new people and having fun. The class size is pretty good, I usually like small classes because everyone gets to listen to your opinions/answers.

Iowa Wesleyan University FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Iowa Wesleyan University?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Iowa Wesleyan University is 50%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I learned the hard way you have to be outgoing. When you first move, you're on your own and this is a challenge for many. My first advice would be to participate in as many activities as you can. Friendships make the transition to college easier and more enjoyable. College is a time for exploration and growing so my advice is to enjoy it! Also, make sure you know what you want to do in life first. If you have an idea, go for it. So many seniors, (myself included) felt that after high school, you have to attend college but if you aren't sure what you want to do with your life, take time and think about it. Once you have an idea, even if it's a year after high school, make the decision to attend college. By carefully evaluating your life and goals, you aren't throwing away valuable time and money on something that isn't right for you. Lastly, always trust your first instincts. If a situation or place doesn't seem right, then choose something else. Be open to new ideas. You know yourself best so always believe in yourself.

  6. Describe the students at your school.

Well, to describe my classmates in one sentence, i would have to say that "There hungry for success". It takes a different kind of person to just pack up, leave home, say good bye to your family(girlfriend/boyfriend), and head off to college.Your young, still learning and diving in sometime your told is worth so much, In so many ways, your still a child. If i could use one word that could describe my classmates it would have to be leaders. A leader start things that there not sure of what the results will be. We take risk.

  7. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

Having previously attended a college which I did not like for various reasons, I've truly found a college where the professors are sincere and interested in the well-being and success of their students. I feel at home at Iowa Wesleyan College and this experience has been 100x more fulfilling than my first experience with college. Although it took awhile to get to where I am, I'm very glad that I made the decision to return to school and couldn't have asked for a better college.

  8. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

I could transfer my LPN licence here and be done with my BSN in about 21 months. That was the main reason I came here. The class sizes are small and the professors are available to help with questions. The campus is small and you don't have to go very far to get to your next class, even if it is in another building. The president of the school knows a lot of the students by name, I thought that was really nice.

This year our school has gone through a budget cut and it has really taken a tole on the students, staff, and faculty here at the college but because of the budget cuts Iowa Wesleyan College should be able to stay open for many years to come.

  12. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I knew more about the rural kind of environment. I am from quite a large city and the town Iowa Wesleyan is in is home to approxiamately 10,000. I experienced a little bit of culture shock coming here, but the small town atmosphere and friendliness definitely made me feel welcome. Also I didn't know about the multiculturalism of the campus. It is said to be one of the most multicultural schools in Iowa and it is easy to see why. I love meeting students from around the world who share the different viewpoints openly and proudly.

  13. Describe your favorite campus traditions.

Our school is best known for being small. The oppurtunities are a bit limited becasue the budget is small for this school. We try to make it a good time by having friends and enjoying our time together. We all know this is an experience and try not to dwell on the negative aspects becasue there are quite a few here.
