What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Knowing what I know now about college life, I would have handled high school very differently. I would have payed attention more and tried to apply myself. I did not do bad in high school but I feel as if I did not push myself as much as I should have. I played around and took the things that I was being taught for granted. For example, in high school I thought that Biology was very boring so I did not pay much attention. I payed for it once I came to college and took Microbiology. I had a very difficult time grasping the material because I did not understnad the basics of biology due to my lack of care for biology in high school. I did not do very bad in microbiology, but I know I could have done better if I had payd attention to the things I was taught in my highschool biology class.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about the school is that it is a little on the pricey side. The school does provide a top notch education, but I get the feeling sometimes that I pay so much money and do not see it being put into the school properly. The food is on the poorer side, the dorms are not in abd shape, but could certainly be fixed up and some of the buildings are in need of renovations; nothing is broken or leaking, but just out dated.

What's unique about your campus?
The size and location of the school is probably the best thing. It is small enough that you can get to know everyone you want to know and classes are small, but you get to see a variety of different people throughout the days. The location is right near Center City, so there is always something to do off campus if you decide to take a trip into the city.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The lack of ethnic diversity is definitly a frustrating thing about La Salle. I'm Hispanic and I grew up in a minority-dominated environment so it was a cultural shock to come to the predominately white population of La Salle. The socio-economic status is middle to upper class, which differs from my lifestyle. All in all, La Salle lacks diversity, and I think it hurts their image. Another frustrating element is the constant alcohol abuse. The majority of the students party with alcohol, which has comprimised the university's image within the community.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
LaSalle has its faults but I do believe I am getting a quality education. The teachers care and classes are interesting.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
That the size of my school is perfect! It's big enough that I can get the classes I need WHEN I need them... but it's small enough that I can't walk 5 minutes without saying hello to someone I know (even if it's only by name or face).

Professors are really personable. Ofcourse you may run in to a few grumpy professors but alot of them are easy going.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
No football...but I think the rest of the activities such a rugby and such are pretty big.
There is barely any diverity among Greek life either.

There are not many "stereotypes" at my school. Most of them are taken as jokes as with any other school so they are not always accurate.

What is the stereotype of students at your school?
Alot of the Jersey kids are stuck up.
The campus is dangerous.
La Salle has a ton of law suits
A lot of the staff are rude and unresponsive.
They sweep everything under the rug.
Predominantly White.
Only one Black Fraternity on campus.
Super expensive.
The dorms are cockroach filled, and incredibly hot or freezing.
They need more teachers.
Showers and toilets are almost always digusting or broken.
Do not supply tutoring in the subjects that you really need.

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
Alot of people are really nice. SOME staff is another story,especially the security working in the dorms and people who work for student housing. One woman...her CA duties has gone completely to her head. She's very nasty to the students. She fails to realize that we pay her.Another misconception..Philadelphia is dangerous and there is nothing to do. Ive grew up in Philly so ofcourse I'll know where to go to have fun and that doesnt involve drinking etc. Fun like shopping,sight seeing, shows etc. People who arent from around here like to go to south street and think they have fufilled their Philadelphia experience. NOT TRUE. the danger thing, I'll be the first to say that Philadelphia as a whole is not dangerous but the campus sure is. The one block stretching from the church to the cafeteria is safe but you also have people coming up from the neighborhoods looking around etc. There has been many security alerts this year and LaSalle can do alot better with that. People have continuously been robbed until recently when they arrestted two people after some uproar. That is one of the main things I do not like. But I do walk around during the day and early night (on campus) and I feel safe majority of the time. I have not encountered any danger myself. Their dorms suck...that is true but there is also a few that are nice. I would suggest tearing them all down and rebulding but ofcourse they wont do that. Alot of my furniture has to be as old as the dorm I live in which was built in 56. I also have a curtain for a closet door which I think is strange. There are a few dorms that are fairly nice but they rate who gets them on a point system so better get straight A's if you want to have air conditioning in your room.
