Overall it is a good university. The professors are fantastic humans who will gladly go out of their way to help their students in any way possible. It would be even more amazing if the administration didn’t randomly decide to fire them with no given reason. The admin refuses to give any transparency or reasoning on almost any decision and it is incredibly frustrating.

Lawrence University is a liberal arts school located in a small town in Wisconsin. It is located on a street with many shops and other things to do. Small class sizes and extremely involved professors make the academic environment rich for each student. The campus is beautiful with many beautiful buildings and ample trees.
However, housing leaves a lot to be desired. Only one dorm has air-conditioning and many of them do not have elevators. When it gets hot, people sleep in the campus center or the library to prevent heat-related illnesses. The food is also not the best, but not the worst ever offered. There is only a café and the commons, no outside restaurants or variety.
Student life is vibrant and there is always something to do. SOUP provides many fun events, including my personal favorite, bingo! Greek life took a hit sorority-wise, but they are trying their best to bolster their chapters back up to regular numbers.
Overall, I enjoy my experience at Lawrence and I am glad that I chose to be a Viking.

Lawrence University is an amazing place for someone who is looking for smaller class sizes, a small town feel, loves to be active, and wants to get involved with campus activities. The campus itself is beautiful, it is along the fox river and it has a safe feeling even while out and about.

It is a good small private school to attend to and its cultural essence is just great to be around and learn about. I play football here and the school spirit is great they all come and support the football team when there are home games and the culture around is great with students who are new and learning the tradition it has.

There are a few really great professors here and plenty of great students, but this university will screw you over financially if you aren't a trust fund baby. They give huge scholarships for first years and then diminish it the next year. My out-of-pocket tuition cost tripled from freshman to sophomore year despite the fact that I'm a Pell Grant recipient. The staff here is like 85% white, Appleton is a depressing little city where all there is to do is drink, and it's impossible to get around anywhere without a car (which you have to pay $600/year to park)!

I am so thankful to be at Lawrence. They have done a fantastic job at navigating covid times. It is great living on campus and all the staff are amazing and helpful. The students are smart, creative, and original. At Lawrence, you don't have to let one thing define you, like being a jock or being a con kid. Instead, you can be in multiple groups and be involved in anything from frats/sororities to on-campus jobs and clubs.

Lawrence provides a wide variety of opportunities for many students, and being a part of the conservatory allows for a lot of performance possibilities. Students outside of the conservatory are also encouraged to perform and allow music to be a part of their collegiate experience, and I wouldn't have it another way.

There are many pros and cons to Lawrence. One is class size. We have about 1500 students in the entire school, and that offers a lot. There is an extremely tight-knit community here and everybody knows everybody. However, sometimes that can be exhausting for some people. Another thing is that everyone on campus is involved in everything, especially the conservatory students. It is easy to overextend yourself and be part of the "Lawrence Busy".

It is a pretty small school so you will recognize faces. The community surrounding the campus can be kind of hectic because they see Lawrence students as pretentious and rich. That is not the case for students on campus. The classes are great because you can ask questions during class.

I think that making the choice to come to Lawrence University was probably one of the best decisions I've made. I really enjoy the smaller class setting which allows me to get to know my peers as well as my professor. I came from a large high school where I felt that I was just a number but Lawrence has made me feel welcome and has given me a more personalized education. I have met some of the most amazing people here. Eveyrone is so friendly and it's super easy to make close friends. The dorms are very big on getting to know one another and building a community, so there are always opportunities to get to know other residents. If you are looking for a small university, Lawrence University should be at the top of your list.

Snotty professors who are not particularly interested in student success. Campus is filled with mental health problems, social isolation, and 18 year olds trying to sound smarter than each other. Student-faculty interaction is branded as being the 'Lawrence Difference' and is one of the major selling points for this $50,000/year hellhole, but in reality professors are selective in the students they help. Don't waste your money, time, or sanity in dealing with this school and go out and get a proper education.

I love this school so much! it's different from most colleges which makes it special also. It truly is like a family away from your family. The faculty and staff truly care about you and make themselves available for you so much. There is definitely an adjustment period but once the adjustment period is out of the way I think students really begin to love the place.

Lawrence has offered me the perfect environment to learn and grow as I work my way into the world. Even as a part of two fairly small departments, Linguistics and Classics, I have learned a lot and felt supported by my professors and my fellow students alike. Most of us seem to share a contagious enthusiasm for learning and exploring, whether in the classroom or at a concert or just sitting around in the dining hall and chatting. Throughout campus, students are known for their "busy culture"; they are determined to find more to get involved in or accomplish. However, both students and faculty members do their best to ensure that this busy-ness doesn't reach unhealthy levels, and I have felt a campus-wide camaraderie and concern for the whole community's well-being.

Lawrence University is a small liberal arts college in the small town of Appleton. I really enjoy it because I get more individual attention from the professors and they really want to succeed. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer, join sports, and participate in a variety of clubs. Lawrence also has a music conservatory, so the creative and intellectual mind is supported here.

The campus is way more welcoming than I thoughtit was going to be when I arrived. The profesors are all really engaging with the students, and it helps that the class sizes are small. There are so many opportunities that are open to you for being a Lawrentian, so I know this is a great university.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Lawrence University is 62%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell myself to focus on what I want and not get pressured by those around me. Sometimes the best school for you isn't the highest ranked, or the one that gives the most financial aid. You have to find out as much as you can about schools before you can make a decision, but you'll never know what it will be like until you try it!
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I think the worst thing about Lawrence University is the lack of communication between the administration and the faculty. Lawrence recently had a new president take office and, while she is doing a great job as a fundraiser, communication between the faculty and the administration is weaker than it should be. This gap affects the variety and the strength of incoming freshmen and therefore the dynamic of the student population both in and out of the classroom.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Lawrence University is a tremendous place to grow academically, socially, and emotionally as a person, and I would not trade my experience there for anything.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish that I would have really known how to study and prepare for classes, exams, projects and music/voice-related events. Everything here takes a good amount of time and focus - a very different experience from high school for me!
The kind of person that should attend this school is someone who is willing and ready to attempt all areas of study. The person should also be very hardworking and able to master a very heavy work shedule.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
There is always something to do on campus. Although we obviously don't have football games where the streets get blocked off and thousands of people are chanting, we do have tons of athletic events. I think it's cool to go to these events knowing the athletes and being able to support your friends and vice versa. The opportunity to continue athletics has been great and I've made some really good friends through soccer and track. Weekends are whatever you want them to be and what you do depends on your interests and friends. You can go to athletic events, concerts, guest speakers, play Halo, read, sleep, watch TV, play games, whatever!
I love the type of education I'm receiving at Lawrence. Lawrence doesn't teach you how to memorize, Lawrence teaches you how to think and develop ideas, research and support those ideas, and then discuss, argue, and present those ideas. Lawrence truly produces well-rounded people and has tons of opportunities for leadership. I find the size of the school to be just right as I can walk around campus and know a good deal of the people I meet, yet I still make new friends all the time. The smaller class sizes allow an unbelievable amount of interaction with professors and also lead to amazing opportunites that are simply not available at other schools. I just got back from a weekend at Bjorklunden (the school's beautiful property in Door County) talking to alumni doctors and learning about the medical field that I attend to get into. In class, you can always ask questions, are able to give oral presentations, and professors are available to you outside of class.
The level of interaction with professors is simply unbelievable. I know I keep repeating this fact, but I love getting to know my professors and the fact that they are always there for you. I also think it's awesome that I have an adviser who knows me not only on an academic level, but also on a personal level. I always know that, no matter what, I have someone in my corner willing to lend me a hand.
Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
I'll admit that some of the things I see going on around campus are strange to me, but it's a quirky/fun sort of thing. Everybody finds their own group of friends and niche, I'm sure some people look at some things I do and scratch their head.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
99% of students attending Lawrence University receive some sort of financial aid.
16% were awarded federal grants.52%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
