Millikin is a great university! It’s smaller than most, but is such a close-knit community. It is a performance learning school focused on actually working in the field, with every major! It also has so many other opportunities to be active in the community, through sports, Greek life, BSU, sign language and so many more extracurriculars.

Millikin University thrives more so off of its fantastic academic programs, caring and proficient staff, and exemplary job placement rates than its surroundings or location. Class sizes are small enough to the point where intellectual conversation and deep thought take precedence over lecture halls. Professors are almost always available and willing to talk. The social life is fantastic for a school of under 2,500 students, and the Greek life is outstanding. Decatur itself isn't the most beautiful city in Illinois, and there are a few shady spots around campus, but like I said- its value comes from the education you receive, not from its outward appearance.

Millikin University is a very good school. The academics here are really good and because of the small class sizes, you have easy access to professors. The food is not that great, although there are some days when the food is really good. There is not a lot to do around Decatur, so you mostly have to find things to do on campus.
Leah
Class sizes are small, around 10-20 students on average. I love that situation because you are an actual person to your professor and we can have real discussions in class. The professors are all great people and really care about you as a person. They know you by name and you can have real relationships with them. The performance learning philosophy really works and helps me learn a ton.

The School is small which can be perfect for someone looking for a small school school with plenty to due near by. The campus is very beautiful and everyone seems to be very close and very nice to each other. The sports are very big and people seem to really enjoy the games and come to support. The school offers a lot of help if you need it so do not be afraid to ask for help because I know it can be hard. The food is very good and the cooks and very friendly people.

The first time that I visited Millikin University I fell in love with the campus and knew right then that I wanted to go here. The people are very friendly and I am very excited to be attending next year. I will be able to be apart of the softball team. I wish to be able to experience everything that I can wish I am enrolled here.
Ruth
It is a great, safe place to explore many different subjects and topics and feel welcomed and supported at all times while doing so. In addition to excellent academics and a wonderful honors programs, they also have a fantastic theater and arts scene.

I love my college. I am accepted for who I am, as is everyone else, and I can do everything right I have ever wanted to do with my life. Millikin believes in performance learning, meaning we are actively engaged in the field we are approaching. It is my first year and I have already taught inside a Kindergarten classroom. The energy is fantastic and I love this University!
Lena
Millikin has given me every possible opportunity to advance both within academics and within my career; Millikin will undoubtedly be integral in my continuation on to graduate studies and beyond. The professors are passionate, educated, and greatly invested in the success of their students both in and out of the classroom.

Millikin University is like a second home to me. The social and educational environment has always been very welcoming and pleasant, and despite the university being located in a small town, there is always something to do on campus. This school cares about its students and provides accommodations necessary to a student that is in need of academic, social, or financial help. Every moment that I am on campus, I always think to myself how lucky am I to be attending Millikin University.
Michaela
This is more than a school, it is a home and a family. People are very accepting and professors and other faculty are always there when students are in need. There has never been a time when I have felt as if no one cared. I have always been encouraged to go to class, and there is no way to succeed without trying. It is the best place to prepare for the future!
Bailey
Millikin felt like home to me as soon as I set foot on the campus. It was quiet and beautiful. That was only the first time. Actually attending as a student, I feel like I have found my home away from home. Everyone is welcoming and I have been able to develop life long friendships with my peers and professors. I get involved a lot because there are so many opportunities that let's students be involved. For a small school in a small town, this school is too amazing for words to describe. I cannot imagine attending another school than this one and it all started when I set foot on the campus when I was a high school senior. Now I will be ending my freshman year as a music major with a pre law focus and I am very excited for the future years here.

Millikin University seems like a nice school to attend when I took a visit there I enjoy being on the campus. The staff were nice and there's a lot of opportunities for me there to achieve my goals. I really enjoyed myself visiting the university and hoping that I can have enough money to attend there next following semester.
Krystal
Performance learning should be the only type of learning. Millikin is wonderful at getting students in their field, developing personal relationships within the campus and the community, and providing a high standard of education.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell myself to follow my heart, especially when making decisions like where I want to go to school and what I want my major to be. My family had been talking to me since I was very young about going to Eastern Illinois University. I decided to go there without much thought, especially since I had made it into the Honors Program on grace. To be truly honest with you, that was the worst year of my life thus far. I hated it there and in the back of my mind I was constantly wondering what it would have been like to attend Millikin University (the school I really wanted to go to). Why didn't I go there in the first place? It is a private school and my parents thought it was too expensive. I am paying for college on my own so towards the end of my year at Eastern I decided to reapply to Millikin and work really hard on financial aid. All of my hard work paid off and now I am as happy as I will every be and doing really well!
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Millikin University give students the building blocks to not only become a better student, but also to become a better citizen, both in your professional life and at home.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The price, and the fact that they funnul students into their overpriced apparments, and refuse to let students get off campus housing dirrectly off campus for a third of the price. Res life is the worst thing about millikin
most of the students at Millikin tend to be very helpful, but are truly only worried about themselves. It seems as if everyone is trying to bring the other done just in order to bring themselves up.
The fine arts are the most well known aspect of our school. We celebrate the success of our theatre and music students on Broadway and in other venues. Our school's biggest community draw is Vespers, our holiday concert that sells out our auditorium.
I like my school because we strive to improve ourselves constantly. There is a visbale spirit of community, with students, faculty, and the Decatur community. I appreciate the opportunities i've had from the numerous student organizations offered on campus. I know Millikin will prepare me for professional success, and also provide a rewarding student experience.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I find myself coming out of my shell more and more while I am at Millikin. My advisor and my voice teacher have given me so much that I can never repay them or thank them enough. I'm so proud of what I have done and what I still have yet to do and I'm always surprised at the things I have done and the people I impact.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
The thing that brought me to this school over other schools is how everybody genuinelly cared about me when I came to visit. At every other school I visited, it seemed as if people didn't really care if I came there or not. At Millikin, they want you there. Everyone is so pleasant and not in the fake way. They ask where you are from, what you want to major in, what you're involved in, and anything else to get to know you as a person. This was very unique to me and is why I came here.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
