It was one of my first choices to attend here, and provide you with a supporting program to help you during your first two years, which really helped me keep on track and be reminded of important things. I love the atmosphere, the clubs, and how its easy to commune to. The professors are also very kind and easy to reach at when you need help.

Overall, Northeastern has a great early childhood education program within their school of education. I have had wonderful professors so far who have really supported me in my journey of being a teacher for young children. I love how clean the campus is and how there are beautiful spots to study outside or to enjoy the view when fall is at its peak or springtime is in bloom.

i pick one star. I am a visitor to the school I'm going to attend in the fall but not by choice by force by my family because it's more affordable. I am terrified to attend because the school is right next to a cemetery and my sister tells me the classrooms do not have any windows and at times the school can be a little dangerous. I won't rest till everybody knows that this school is garbage.

I transferred into Northeastern Illinois University and have experienced nothing but a warm welcome from my professors and peers. The class sizes average around 15-20 students which make for great discussions and personal feedback from professors. Professors are likely to remember you and strike a conversation, if time permits, to catch up and see how your academic career is going. This type of atmosphere was one that I lacked at my previous university and I believe this largely stems from the Northeastern's diversity and open-mindedness.

I am Araceli Navarro. I am a sophomore college student at Northeastern Illinois University determined to obtain a bachelor's degree in psychology. My educational aspirations consist of acquiring a bachelor's degree with a major in psychology and a minor in biology which would assist me in my career as a neonatal nurse. Northeastern does not provide a degree for nursing but they had lovely people who were able to guide me with prenursing courses. From the very beginning at NEIU, I felt relieved that they were able to set me up with a timeline of courses I could take that will count towards pre-nursing prerequisites.
Furthermore, I feel comfortable attending this very diverse university. Previously in the high school I attended, students will get in trouble for speaking their native language. However, at NEIU, we are motivated to express our cultures and embrace it. The Pedroso Center is one area on the main campus that sets up many events with different themes. Along with various events hosted in this area, they show support for the LQBTQ community. It feels great to be part of a university that considers us not only students. There is a community at this university and it is always nice to be greeted by friendly people at school.
Additionally, NEIU provides many resources and opportunities for many people. People are able to get into the Scholars program or the TRIO program that provides them with extra help. These programs help many students academically and financially; they allow students to keep track of their studies and get help in obtaining scholarships.
Overall, Northeastern Illinois University has provided a wonderful college experience to myself and others. NEIU is a great place to further your education, provides areas where you can hang out with friends, and perfect scenery for artistic individuals.

Northeastern Illinois University is an affordable option to obtain a degree. The atmosphere is nice, the professors (at least the ones I've had) were accesible outside class, and they were willing to help when needed. There are a variety of extracurricular activities available and you can usually see groups of students doing activities outside class.

I believe Northeastern has a huge variety of things you can study. Even though it might not have a specific major you're looking for, you can always work your way there and still complete your degree your currently working on. The campus isn't the biggest, but the people that are on campus definitely make up for it! The staff is amazing there and they make you feel so welcomed. Northeastern is my current #1 to choice and I couldn't be more excited to attend there!

I really love Northeastern Illinois University. I think that student population is brilliant, and is very active. The professors, tutors, and almost everybody on campus is quite welcoming. The class sizes are comparatively small, which is great because it helps the students focus better in the class. We have great tutors and mentors on campus, who are genuinely passionate about what they do.

My overall opinion of Northeastern Illinois University is eccentric and welcoming. When I got admitted there the Fall of 2017, it was welcoming and peaceful that there is many support systems and people who can help you in anyway, you're not alone. I was relief that they did so not only that, but offer so much more than other schools that I went to visit and reviews to see what was the best fit for me. The students and the campus is very diverse and I love it! I always wanted to have a diverse community with no hate and learn more about one another. I would say that this school is best fit for students who can't afford much and want to be able to go to a University. Starting off a Freshman or a Transfer, they'll admit you to one of the programs that they would help guide your way to college and understanding it as well! I recommend it if you're looking something extravagant and welcoming!

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell myself to stay as focused as possible on college work, that there is time for more social activities after graduating. I would also tell myself to try volunteering at different places in order to get a view on what I would like as a career choice for the future, by gaining experience on different areas it may be easier to pick the right career. I would also remind myself of the benefit of staying focused in school instead of trying to do everything at once, because sometimes school can take the back seat when it comes to being out with friends or other activities. Lastly I would tell myself to be proud of the all the accomplishments that I have made and all the accomplishments that will come, to keep going strong and never give up.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
The environment is peaceful and extremely diverse. It allows students to interact with one another and from different cultures. The various extra curricular activity clubs enables students to get a sense of belonging and in learning from cultures other than their own. The staff and faculty work very well with students and assuring that students can meet their academic needs with tutoring services, available resources, and establishing great communication relationships with those that are a part of the university. I have never felt as an outcast while here and am confident that my decision to be was a right one.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The lack of coordination, there seems to be a constant uncertainty that surrounds everything. Information is scattered and you sometimes have to go digging to find something you want or need. As someone with little college experience I found it difficult to find the information I needed to get my financial situation under control. One of the programs that claimed it would save me money missinformed me, and that the $4000 id save off tuition, is just in remedial classes id otherwise have to take. This is the clearest example of missinformation I've had to work against.
I would’ve liked to visit the university couple of times before the school year started. That would have helped me know the departments, and where my classes would be located, I don’t have to get lost when the school starts. Talk to my advisory all the time especially when I decide my major or what classes I want to take or what I have to do after the four year college. In conclusion I would be more careful about what I’m going to do in college because it helped me a lot.
THAT IS REALLY DIVERSE. THE TEACHERS AND STAFF ARE HELPFUL. STUDENTS ARE REALLY FRIENDLY. I FEEL SAFE AND SECURE. I TEND TO DO WELL ADN ALSO GET ALONG WELL WITH STUDENTS AND STAFF.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
Well, first If had known that in college you have to write many essays all the time, I would have payed more attention to my english teacher. Also I wish I had known that there was nothing to worry about college; for instance, I used to worry to much about not doing good in college because english was my second language. But now that i am in college I know that there are many people there to help me with all my assigments.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
If you don't know what you want to major in make sure you see an advisor to get ideas and advise on what classes to take. If you already know what you want to major in, try to review the course catalog so you can go in to see an advisor ready with questions.

Northeastern Illinois University has a variety of nice people, from all different countries and cultures. Plus, they have a bachelors program and a masters program for every student who actually diligently applies to Northeastern Illinois University. The staff are very caring and carry charisma too, which I appreciate the courteous treatment that I do not see in Catholic schools. It is a pleasant experience.
Honestly its best know as being an option open to everyone. They have programs to make sure people are accomodated no matter their level of learning. Some people want to go to a real college instead of community and so they go here. Its a commuter college so its also a good deal cheaper without board. When I was touring the campuss I saw both young and old, high achiever and low achievers, as well as all ethnicities. That to me was the strongest proof that NEIU is meant to be accessible to all.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
I am apart of a student ran organization, and we just do not get the help from higher up departments that we need. We plan the events for the students on campus and the community, and since we are a commuter school we try to attract as many people as possible to get involved and/or attend and when we reach out to the higher up administartors to help us do so we are often let down.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
The only person that should not attend NEIU is the student who doesn't plan on taking their education seriously. The school is fantastic with great professors and an extremely accommodating administration. Everyone is genuinely passionate about the sucess of the students. Yet, there are no hand outs at NEIU; you must work for your degree! If a student doesn't do well, it's their fault, not the school's.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
