The experience so far that I have recieved is one of being rich and diverse. The amount of people that I have met have all been extremely friendly and open to building a good relation. Most of them are from different backgrounds and bring alot to the university experience as a whole. The college has provided me an intake of not only the people of what Ohio state residence are like or what American's are like, but also about how other people from other countries around the world are like. The value to me of attending this school is not only that it is one of the biggest ones out there, but I believe it is one that will help me gain succes in the career that I wish to pursue after graduating. The value to me of attending this school is the achievements that it lets me focus on and the experiences that I have gained. What I have gained from this university is to be cut throat open, confident, ambitious, creative and diverse.

I deserve this scholarship because I'm trying my best to help defray the cost for my parents. They are paying for my education and they make too much to get Federal Aid but not enough to pay the bills without loans or dipping into their retirement. I work summer and part-time jobs but it is not enough. Now that my sister is entering college in the fall of 2010, it will just get worse.
I have learned to appreciate so much more now what my parents have done for my sister and I all of these years. Now that I have to budget the money and shop for groceries - I understand what it will take for me to earn a living for the rest of my life.
Please give my application serious consideration - Thank you in advance.

During my first year attending Ohio Sate Marion I have gotten the experience to know a teacher more than in previous school years. Teachers at Ohio Sate respect you as an individual of the community and understand that you have more problems than just school work. This understanding offers students like myself to be able to get work handed in on time and learn without the shackles of time restraint pulling our legs and arms. I have earned the best grades that I have ever earned attending school this year and hope that my journey to main campus next year will continue to push my knowledge further and maybe one day I will stand among the great philosophers, artists, scientist, and those that have changed the world with the knowledge they had recieved in there youth.

I have learned that I get out of my education, what I put into it. This means that I must value each class and assignment. I find a way to make those things my own and do my best. Undstanding this, optimizes my learning. In other words, I find value in knowledge and I do not take my education for granted. Taking on responsiblility and being involved takes me outside of my small world, this makes me more marketable and prepared for my future. Investing in my education could be nothing but valuable.

I would have graduated in 1977 with my class, Instead , I dropped out in my senior year of high school. Now, I am 51 years old and since high school I have had a number of deadend jobs. I have cleaned houses, worked for a daycare as a helper at 16, I got into the production of personal computer. This may sound like a great career but, in my 25 to 30 years of production, I have received a number of back problems from standing all day 8 to 12 hour days. I have had two back surgery's. Getting up in the mornings just to stand with my feet on the floor HURT. Since I have enrolled in IBMC college, I feel I have hope that, even at 51 I can start a new career in an area of my intrest. I love going to school and I am a A- B grade student. I still have a year to go before I graduate, I am learning so much about the human body and medical terminalogy was like learning a new launguage!! I am on my way to a better life and I cant wait!

I am a freshman and I was told that I astounded some of my suite-mates because during my very first quarter they would see me sitting in other people's rooms; interacting and being a "social butterfly." And while I am a naturally social person, I am a bit shy when I'm first meeting someone. The reason that this wasn't a problem my first quarter was becase a male, Bryan, was open and friendly and told me to come over and sit on his and his roommates couch anytime; and just like that I felt a sort of acceptance. So being in college for just one quarter has taught me to be more outgoing and more friendly to people I don't know, because they may feel at ease with that sense of acceptance; just as I did.

My college experience and all the aspects of transitioning into adulthood have been incredibly valuable to me. Attending college was my first opportunity to have to stand entirely on my own feet. The process of choosing and registering for classes, expanding my social network, taking care of personal aspects, and balancing volunteering, employment and education while providing quality work for both all aided this process. The education I have received has created a greater appreciation for literature and language; select professors along the way have encouraged and inspired my love of literature and aspiration to educate our youth on the creativity and endless possibilities the subject has to offer. The college atmosphere allowed me to spread my wings into the adult world while creating a brighter future for not only myself, but my present and future family and the lives I hope to touch when entered the education career field.

At Ohio State I have grown as a person both in and out of the classroom. Out of the classroom I have grown in the areas of religion, friendships, value of family, gratitude, patience, respect and understanding. All of this personal growth is valuable now and in the future; and I do not think that I would have experienced all of this if I had not moved away to college. The main value though comes from discovering who I am and breaking away from what is expected by family and society. In my life this was changing my major. I was always a great student in math and science and was promised a bright future in engineering; however, as I was developing who I was, I found that I held no desire or passion for engineering. I broke the standards placed on me and changed my major to Special Education. My actives and life at college has been such a valuable experience because they have changed how I see myself and the world. I am now pursuing an area of passion and interest for me and I hope to change the world not just be a part of it.

Calling it simply just a college experience undermines truly what I have went through. One word to describe my time in college thus far would have to be growth. Educationally, socially, morally, and mentally speaking, I have grown into such a different person in such a short amount of time. Because of this experience I have met so many different people from all over the world, and I value this just as much as the education I have gained. The people you meet truly change your life and by opening your eyes, ears, heart, and mind, you can learn more than you can ever hope to wish for, and that is what I have gotten out of this experience. These people are the valuable resources that helped me through college and will continue to do so throughout my future career.

My college experience is giving me a whole new outlook on my future. I have the confidence within myself to succseed. Attending college is valuable to not only myself, but my family as well. I am now recieving the education I need to obtain employment in the medical field. College is the best decision I have ever made. I would not be able to move forward with my life if I did not choose to attend school. For the first time in my life I can see light at the end of tunnel. I have a hope and desire to acheive my dreams. I could not put a price on the value of an education it is not an exspense it is an investment.

The most important thing that I have learned from college is the kind of person I do not want to be and the kind of things I do not want to do. From there, it is a simple process of elimination in attempting to pursue a meaningful life. Many of my classes have taught me useful information and have expanded my ability to reason effectively. Nonetheless, I have decided that while college is useful for obtaining a degree and finding a high-paying job, it is superfluous in the grander scheme of what I hope to accomplish with my life. I do not wish to have a career. I would prefer to live in greater harmony with nature, in a community of close friends and family. In this way, my education can assist me in helping others and finding creative solutions to problems. Pursuing material gain is the antithesis to contentment, happiness, and a meaningful life. I am grateful to college for the things I have learned and the friends I have gained, but my college education will not define me or turn me into the typical discontented American consumer.

The reason I am here is to improve my life. It is hard to make the decesion to put your life on hold, move 200 miles, and attend school again for the first time in 15years. But this is what I have done, and what I have gotten out of it is yet to be realized. I have a long way to go, but if I make it all my sacerfice will not be for nothing. They will give a chance to see the world and to feel the satisfaction of acheveing my goals and to improve my life.
it has been of vaule to me right out of the blocks a 3.9 and as I am writting this I have the chance for a 4.0. I have never even been close to these numbers, but I put hard work in and I reep what I sowed. And this is a very rewarding feeling.

My college experience has brought me into a different environment that helped prepare me for a professional environment. When i originally began college, I had little cultural knowledge of my own race. I grew up in a low-income African American community and always had African American friends. I never really related to the white race and it was always weird to me because I was myself white. College exposed me to my culture and helped me to understand different things that exist that are important to know and relate with inside of my ethnicity. I believe the experience of learning more about my background and exposing myself to my own ethnicity helped me to become an even more diverse person with an incredible background to pursue many things after college is finished.

I have learned many important life lessons in college. I have learned the real meaning of hard work. College is not easy, and it takes a lot of time, commitment, and drive in order to suceed. I have found my true passion, nutrition. I know I want to work with the childhood obesity epidemic, and Ohio State has shown me this. I have made life long friends and learned how to get along with all types of people. I believe it is valuable to attend to find your true identity. College hands you a lot, and it is your job to find out how to manage all of the tasks at hand. It gives you a solid foundatioin of knowledge and the tools to survive in the real world. College also helps people to learn tolerance and respect for all types of people. I have learned more in the past four years about people than I have my entire life.

The experience is amazing learning so much more than I every could have expected. Attending Ohio State will be valuable because I will receive my degree from there in hopes of working in the field I have chosen and love.

College has been an amazing experiance. I was fortunate to attend a college/highschool program called running start and I achieved 60 credits in college while attending high school. I believe that going to college at such a young age, set me apart from other high school students. I was able to chose the classes I wanted, I depended on myself to get good grades and I also learned a great deal of time management. I also had the chance to interact with a variety of other students ranging from 16 to 60. I had the chance to talk to my professors on a personal basis and was also given respect as a very young adult. I believe that starting college young has given me the chance to show the world that a person my age can be considered very mature and trustworthy. Also I was able to experiance college with the help and support of my friends, family, and teachers, without having to jump right into college after high school. Attending college has and will make me a better citizen and knowledgable human being. I can help people and learn from all aspects of life if I attend college.

I feel that I've far more at this college than merely earning a degree in my major. At first, that was all I was concerned about, and it was a simple if boring life. However, the passage of time eventually led me to discover a few things that I feel will help me a long time down the road. Some of these are the extra material I learned for my GPA, like political science, which will hopefully help me understand the world a little better. I also learned a few life skills to help me later in life. Finally, I earned a couple of friends during my time in the dorms, and while we don't see each other often, their presence has made a lasting impact on who I am to this day. I do not regret coming to Ohio State, and would do it again in a heart beat.

I attended college the fall after high school graduation, August 1991. I completed 1 full year, then didn't continue my education. I returned to school lspring semester 2009 as a wife, mom to 5 kids, and full-time medical transcriptionist. I was afraid that I would not get good grades, would not mesh with my fellow students because I was older, and just overall had an anxiety about returning to school after 17 years. Now, 1 year later, I absolutely love school, I have a 3.9 GPA, and I have finally figured out what I want to get my degree in. I have so much more confidence in myself since returning to school. I find myself excited at the beginning of each new semester. I have an achievable goal ahead of me and feel such immense pride that I am pursuing my degree. I have noticed that returning to school as a nontraditional student I care so much more about my grades, getting my assignments in on time, and doing my best work than I did when I attended directly after high school. I tell my peers all the time, "If I can do it, you can too."

This being my first year at OSU, I feel that I have gained so much more than I thought I ever would in high school. While in high school, I never studied or picked up a book after school hours. While, admittedly, that had very bad effects when I entered college, it also taught me how to study. Since I had never studied, I didn't know how. When I figured out the classes were tough, I was forced to learn. It's not easy, but I find that very valuable. Also, I've gained much more knowledge in the diversity of the college. I live in the International Dorm, so my roommate is Chinese. Although it was very difficult for me in the beginning because of many differences, I've learned alot about the culture and people. I've gained so much from my first year at Ohio State, and I'm thankful for my first year, even though it was a lot of work.
