What do you consider the worst thing about Syracuse University? Why?

Daniel

The social divide between Greeks and non-Greeks. I am Greek, but it's absolutely ridiculous that there is so much rivalry over who has a set of letters and who doesn't. I mean, some of my best friends are non-Greek, and I am in no way ashamed of that. In addition, some of my Greek Brothers whom I've introduced to my non-Greek friends have become very compatible. The whole situation makes no sense, and is very indicative of the school.

The school is mostly a party school and many people seem to be un-academically focused. It can make the social scene very tired and annoying

Victoria

The price. Although it is a wonderful school, Syracuse is a private university and thus, the price is a bit steep.

Syracuse University is a great university, yet it has neglected the advancement of the social science departments. Physical sciences, engineering as well as gymnasiums have recieved massive funding and have obtained wonderful equipment, tools, etc., but this funding is not spread throughout other departments in need. Another concern is the large class sciences for physical science courses. Asking questions and receiving assistance in a lecture hall is nearly impossible, when it is needed the most.

The weather. I always have a cough, cold...

The worst thing about my school is the intense work load. On an average night, I don't sleep until two AM. I am a hard worker, and try to get everything done to the best of my ability, but it is so different from high school where I need to put my best into everything I do. Professors seem to grade extremely harshly, even when I put so much effort into my work. Only rarely do I feel as if my hard work is paying off.

The students tend to put a big emphasis on socializing - if you're looking for an institution that is heavy on academics, certain programs, such as the architecture, business, and pre-law are very academic-oriented and usually have more serious students. Most other students are big on parties, sporting events, and the extracurriculars, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but more often than not, abundant alcohol is the focal point of socializing.

communication between diversities.

The worst thing for Syracuse University is the method used for dining. As a student progresses, there are more meal plan choices and varieties, but as a freshman, we are required to have one of three dining hall meal plans. Although lump sums might be easier to process, it is perturbing to "waste" an entire dining hall meal swipe just for a bowl of cereal or a small salad. Most students have fourteen meals a week, so to balance it out is a difficult task.
