For the most part, UCSB student are very laid back. We know how to have fun and we know when to work.
Emily
The general people at UCSB are low-key and like to have a good time. Whether its having fun in the greek like or with the general public at the beach.
Katrina
There's very little diversity. Most people aren't very political.
Brett
Good mix of people and races and religions. A quiet person might feel out of place at UCSB. Students wear flipflops to class. Most UCSB students are from California.
Jordan
Students pretty much wear whatever they want to class. there are so many interest groups on campus that no one should ever feel alone here and there is always a family away from our immediate family. Most UCSB students are from California and I assume are pretty well off in the financial department.

The student body is very diverse and accepting of all types of people. Everyone is welcoming of the differences on campus, and it's a great place to meet new types of people.
Alex
I am in a Sorority and there are a lot of different types of people. I don't think anyone could feel out of place because there are so many types of students. There are many financial backgrounds and everyone is pretty unified.
andrea
most students wear comfortable casual clothes to class.
Marie
Well rounded, outgoing students that are open to different ideas and thoughts.
jaimie
there are tons of groups on campus and they all interact with each other. a lot of involvement opportunities. students that arent ready for a well balancede education would feel akward. they need to get their heads out of the books and see what else is out there.
Devin
I feel like there is a place for everyone on campus. People are accepting, no matter what your background or racial group is. Most people here are middle class. People are not as politically active as I would have hoped.
Ashlee
since we live by the beach most people dress in that fashion. There is a big variation of nor cal and so cal which gets represented.
Devin
I have not had confrontations with other peer groups on campus. I feel that there is a very diverse group of students from all different soci-economic backrounds.
kristen
UCSBs student body is pretty cool- everyone for the most part gets along. Its not a school where girls put on makeup and high heels to go to class. Most everyone here wears flip flops and comfortable clothes to class- its a super relaxed atmosphere.
Cris
It seems that California residents are the most common. In my experience it is an extremely liberal, non-religious, and Caucasian student population. However, I feel that this is common in many college age students.
Emily
The type of student at UCSB varies to some extent, however the majority of the population is from California. There are also several exchange students and few transfers. My closest friends consist of a mix of dorm friends, sorority friends, and friends from classes. It's great to be able to meet so many people and spent time with them outside of class. Most people wear comfortable clothes or sweats to class, however there are those random few who spend time on their hair and wear 1 1/2 inch sandals. For those students with financial difficulties, financial aid is available if you apply. As for "out of place" students, I would not recommend people who are unsocial to come to UCSB. The best part about it is the opportunity to meet such a variety of people in such a small radius.
Tristan
I think UCSB is very diverse and i am happy with the people i have met. I feel as though money is a huge issue here and that every one talks about it.
Margarita
there is something here for everyone. there is a mildly racially diverse population here on campus, but those groups are very active on campus. there is a very strong chicano studies major and there are many social organizations that are involved in latina/o, black, and queer studies. the ucsb population is very laid back and also really likes to party. if you are not into the party scene sb may not be the place for you. i know people that have had to leave ucsb because they were not interested in partying. i have also known people that have had to leave because they got too caught up in the lifestyle. ucsb is pretty much made up of students from all over california and few our of staters too. there are a lot of people from san diego. the socio-economic background of a large majority of students is pretty obvious. people (especially in the greek system) are well dressed and live comfortable lifestyles. of course not everyone is filthy rich and there are a lot of students that are on scholarships and financial aid, but out of all the uc's ucsb has the most affluent population
Ericka
I really feel as if although there are very large gaps in socio-economic groups here, it is really not that big of a deal. I for one don't really notice any problems or have had any distinct experiences regarding these different groups such as racial or religious, although i know of many religious as well as racially geared groups on campus.
Alexa
This is an openly liberal campus and i love it! there is still room for republican opinion, obviously we are all naturally open minded so we can be welcoming of everyone. but compared to other campuses that i have visited i love how liberal ucsb is, despite the fact that it is mostly white upper middle class. if i could change one thing it would be to make ucsb a little more diverse but i feel like the different racial ethnic and religious groups that are here are expressive and active on campus
