Describe the students at University of Connecticut.

Greek life is slowly becoming stronger at UConn. It is a great way to get involved on campus. It gives you a social life and you meet a ton of great people. If you decide to join Greek life, you will find Greek's in all of your classes. It creates a bond not just within a sorority or fraternity but amoung the Greek community.

There's something for everyone here, but if you're a quiet person and don't like to "go out" often, then look elsewhere. Most students just wear jeans and their northface jacket to class. Don't dress up. People will make fun of you.

There are various cultural centers on campus (African American, GLBT, Women, Asian American, International, and Puerto Rican/Latino). They host a lot of events around campus. Students who feel more individual and hippie may feel out of place at UConn. Most students wear Uggs and leggings or sweatpants, definitely lots of brand names and UConn gear. It seems as though the student body is heavily influenced by cliques. Most students are from Connecticut, with New England area coming in second. Students are politically aware but not always active, and predominantly Left. I have never heard someone talk about how much money they will earn someday.

We as a overall university in my opinion only really talk about money when we are complaining about cost of text books. In general I have friends that came from the ghetto and others that came from very well off parents. It's a complete mix, it's very diverse, you meet all sorts of people, they dress nicely, or really weird. The lack of any one specific way in which people go to class, if they go at all, makes for a very intresting mix. We have every cultural center you can imagine, asian, rainbow, black, etc... If you feel out of place if you are not hanging out with people of your own ethnicity it's really easy to get to those types of friends. Consequently if you feel as though you want to know every type of person there is you can easily get that as well just by going to the centers, everyone is always welcoming and willing. It's a big unvierstiy, but seems very small since you see a lot of people a lot, but you can chose to meet new people every day. I've been here four years and I still meet new people every day, but i still see all my friends every day as well.
