As a first-generation college student with long-term goals to be a physician, the University of Houston is my sole option for beginning my educational journey. Its strong focus on academic achievement, research experience, and commitment to diversity and student success provide a setting in which I would feel at ease to thrive.
What I'm most drawn to at UH is its robust pre-health and biomedical sciences program, which will lay the foundation for my future career in medicine. That the university is situated close to the Texas Medical Center—the world's largest medical complex—is especially attractive. I'm excited about having the chance to engage in research, internships, and volunteer opportunities that will give me hands-on experience in the healthcare field while I earn my undergraduate degree.
Apart from academics, UH's vibrant and diverse campus culture is the one thing I really believe in. I would like to be a part of an environment where students support each other, enjoy their diversity, and proudly claim their Cougar heritage. Being a student who plans to be very active on campus, I look forward to being involved in student organizations, participating in service activities, and building long-lasting bonds with my classmates.
Pursuing at the University of Houston will not only further my educational ambitions, but also give me the chance to mature as an individual, a leader, and an eventual healthcare professional. It's somewhere that I am able to live out the whole college experience and make my own dreams come true.

My overall rating of University of Houston is a 4 out of 5. From the moment I stepped onto the UH campus during my freshman year of high school, I knew that this was the school that I wanted to go to. The ambience of the campus, the people, the building, as I continued to research and learn about the school, my desire to go only grew. The only reason I am rating the University of Houston a 4 is because of safety. I know that the campus is in downtown Houston which means that it is surrounded by areas that contain low-income communities. This concerns me because I have heard that safety on campus is something that is less than concrete, however I am an observant and vigilant person by nature which negates it from being a dealbreaker for me. Other than that issue, I am greatly looking forward to attending UH during the Fall Semester of 2025.

Though I have only toured once I already knew it would easily become my favorite college campus. I adored the designs of the modern buildings and the lively spirits of students.

As a visitor who visited the University of Houston, I find the university to be very walkable, have many rooms and places for recreational activities, and have some places where students can eat. The university is very inclusive and there are many buildings where students can sit down and do homework quietly. Overall, I have a favorable opinion of the University of Houston.

The university overall is a nice place though it has its issues. The campus is nice and navigable with a variety of common areas for students to utilize but off campus resources are sparse due to the area the university is in. Housing is alright with most units being clean and comfortable with the exception of Moody Towers which is set to be demolished in the future anyway. The food on campus is good and usually there's a good variety of items to choose from at the dining halls, in addition there's quite a few restaurants to serve students as well. The biggest issue the university has overall is facilities, many buildings on campus are quite old and require a considerable amount of maintenance which the university has struggled to secure funding to do.

My opinion of the University of Houston is that it is an extremely well-rounded school. Not only does the University of Houston have amazing academic programs of any interest that range from business all the way to psychology, but the University of Houston also has top-tier sports programs. The student life at the University of Houston is also very welcoming, and most students are friendly and love to interact with one another. The housing at the University of Houston makes you feel at home because of how comfortable it is, and they also have a variety of different options to choose from, which include Cougar Village 1, Cougar Village 2, Moody Towers, etc. Another thing I love about the University of Houston is that they offer over 500 student organizations, and you will never be bored on campus. Overall, the University of Houston is a great option for any student looking not only to obtain a degree but also to experience the true college experience.

Overall my opinion on the University of Houston is pretty good, I love the layout of the campus, and it is very easy to get from class to class. The people here are very nice and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere of the University is very positive.

The University of Houston is one such institution; besides being renowned for its academic record, it is also famous for its diversity in audience and on-campus life. Its location in the metropolitan city of Houston gives immense opportunities to UH to let its students in for internships, research, and even networking, particularly in business, engineering, health-related programs, and the arts. Being a Tier One research university, it's very innovative and all into discovery, which could also be one of the reasons that excites the students who would want to get involved in such.
The other beautiful thing at UH is the diversity: it is a very richly cultured place, full of life due to the people coming from all walks of life. Its programs too reflect this richness in diversity. Major and extra-curricular opportunities abound that help in zeroing in on one's niche

I am currently a freshman at the University of Houston and I have loved my experience so far. There are so many opportunities and fun experiences for people of all backgrounds and interests. I am always amazed to see the diversity and the cultural appreciation that this university has. There is truly something for everyone here, with fun special interest events to a lively sports culture. Additionally, there is always something to be doing. Even on the weekends there are markets, clubs, and volunteer opportunities. I have always felt that I can eaily talk to any staff or professors on campus and know that I can always be pointed in the right direction. I am so excited to be apart of the culture at this university and continue my education with such a strong positive environment around me.

I believe there is room to improve in The University of Houston, but I believe there is a strong sense of self when it comes to this campus. The food might not be the best. The neighbors might be a bit too loud. But, the people of Houston will never cease to impose their own charm and determination into the community around them.

Great school! I have been helped every step of the way. The culture of the student body is very positive and enduring. The facilities provided are well kept and maintained. The professors are available when the students need them and are thorough with the material they provide.

I believe it to be a great school with amazing facilities and even more amazing people

The University of Houston is a great school known for its strong academics and diverse student body. It offers a wide range of programs in areas like business, engineering, and healthcare. The university is also known for its research and community involvement.
Students have lots of chances to join clubs and activities, making campus life exciting. Plus, being in Houston means there are plenty of opportunities to explore and learn in a vibrant city.
In short, the University of Houston offers a top-notch education in a lively environment, making it a fantastic choice for students looking for a diverse and engaging college experience.

It is a petty good school. Mainly a commuter school so not a WHOLE lot of lively campus life like other universities, but it's pretty solid. Pretty decent academics and we're continuously moving up the ranks, so that goes to show a move in the positive direction. It is located in Houston where in general we take our sports pretty seriously and UH is no exception to that prancing pride. Additionally, clubs are pretty good but I feel they'd be better if more students lived on site since commuters generally have less involvement on campus. Lastly, it is a public university so the tuition is your basic public tuition. Overall a good school and would recommend looking into attending it.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for University of Houston is 58%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
The University of Houston is a stellar academic Tier One research university, with a diverse student body and a great Communication Sciences and Disorders program, which is my major.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
UH is a nice campus in the middle of poor neighboroods. Yet with that in mind, there are so many things to do or see near or on campus. It is close to a bunch of attractions yet can still maintain the identity of a school in a college town.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
If I had to narrow it down to just one thing, I'd have to say parking. There never seems to be enough parking, although the school is trying to fix that.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
The University of Houston is located in the greater Houston area therefore creating an enormous diverse campus. The school has a huge variety of different student organizations including everything from different cultures to different majors to different extracurricular interests. Any type of person would find a place for them on this campus whether its based on major or personal interest.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known that the tuition will go up almost every semester. The classes are extremely expensive. I am taking 5 classes and do not have time for work. The financial aid that I have been getting had dropped, now it is just $5500 a year! This fall semester cost me almost $4000, not counting books. I really wish I could get a scholarship, it will be really helpful in my financial situation. I think that students must concentrade on their studyings, instead of being stressed up on thinking where to get money for their next semester tuition.
University of Houston is best known for many things for example they have one of the best business programs in the city as well as state. The school is also known for being a tier one university and also for being an environmental school. University of Houston is very friendly and a good campus to go to since it is near downtown.
One thing that I would like to change is making the faculty and staff of the University more spirited. Students are not enough to carry the spirit. Also, faculty and staff need to be reminded that they are here for the students. The reason they are employeed is because of the students, and therefore they should try and take care of them best they can.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
University of Houston doesn't get near the recognition that it deserves. It's an older campus, so we don't have the nice fancy buildings that UT and A&M have, and we are often considered the odd stepchild. The neighborhood that the university is built in isn't the best either, known for its high amount of crime allows us to be titled the "ghetto" schools. But honestly the schools taking a lot of money out of its pocket to make the campus look nicer, by building nicer buildings. And we have one of the most diverse, intelligent campuses in Texas, most of which are Indian and Asian students from the area. We are a tier one research university and we are rated as one of the most difficult skills to get A's in. We never get the credit we deserve.
What is the stereotype of students at your school?
Like I said before, since University of Houston is located in an urban area, there is often a stereotype that most of our students are "ghetto" and "uneducated." This could not be further from the truth!
I decided to attend University of Houston, because I knew I wanted a university located in a major city, but since I'm originally from the Dallas area, I wanted it to be away from home. So I decided "Why not Houston!?" Then I went online and researched it a bit, and saw that they would accept all my AP credits, and had a lot of nice scholarships. So I applied, and BAM!, here I am.
The dating scene is existent. You see people holding hands and other sweet gestures on campus. There are plenty of people that you can get to know, so go out and make friends!
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
88% of students attending University of Houston receive some sort of financial aid.
37% were awarded federal grants.36%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
