From touring the campus to seeing familiar faces, I thought the school was great, during our visit they held a specific event for those interested in computer science and I believed the program was really intriguing

As a current student at the University of Massachusetts Boston, I've had a range of experiences that have shaped my perspective on the institution. One of the standout features is the affordability. UMass Boston offers a quality education comparable to private institutions but at a public school price, making it an attractive option for many students.
The location of UMass Boston is both a strength and a limitation. Situated near the waterfront, the campus offers scenic views and a peaceful environment conducive to studying. However, its distance from the bustling city center means that students seeking a more urban college experience might feel somewhat isolated. Some students have expressed a desire for closer proximity to the city's amenities

Umass-Boston is a fantastic school for all ages. Being that I am an adult student, I do not feel out of place while on campus. It's inclusive and I feel at home. I love the affordability, opportunities for adult students making career changes, and flexibility to work school around my work schedule.

It's a college that teaches you what you need to know and helps make connections with possible people that pertain to your career. I'm an off-campus student, but from what I do hear campus life isn't so bad. And the college has a lot of student support systems to help with everything from financial aid, to emotional aid.

I love the location and the classes are great, but i wish there was a wider range of sports to do and clubs/teams to partake in other than the ones already offered. having a wider variety of sports teams could pull in more students to enroll for instance adding a field hockey team. dance team, and so many other could pull more interest from prospective students.

It's a big enough school where you get washed out by the other people, but you're also seen as important in some ways. The advisors aren't that great if you don't have prior knowledge about them, and often times you're stuck helping yourself and figuring out classes and grades as you go while hoping for the best. The professors are mediocre, with a majority of them not caring about their class or making it too hard--it's hard to find the perfect balance so sometimes you're stuck struggling to find your way out of the ocean yourself and keep your head afloat for as long as you're there.

I love to rag on UMB with my friends, but it honestly changed my life for the better. I absolutely love my campus, the diverse minority-majority student body, and my professors. Tuition is incredibly affordable compared to other colleges in Boston. It's just a great place to be.

Since I was a junior in high school, I always gravitated towards Umass Boston for a variety of reasons. It was close to home, but still in a beautiful city, it had a phenomenal nursing program and the foundation of the school was exactly what I was looking for. I hesitated to choose this school in the first place because I noticed all of my friends were going away and living at school, so I thought I should move father from home too, only to realize it was not for me. I worked really hard to maintain good grades and applied to Umass Boston as a transfer student. The day I got accepted, I instantly felt relief and for the first time in a while, I had felt happy. It was a bit nerve-racking starting new at an unfamiliar place, but I quickly felt at home, which is why I am so thankful to be a part of this family. Umass Boston has provided me with the exact college experience that I had dreamt of as a senior in high school. This meant a lot to me because I had never felt that way at Dartmouth. It is truly evident how badly the professors want you to succeed and the environment overall is up-lifting. After completing almost 2 years at UMB, I am still in awe of how perfect this school is for me. I have never felt so content in my life and I am thankful to say that I have finally found my place while attending this institution.

I love this school. This was originally my last choice when I was trying to decide but I took a chance and committed to the nursing program without even touring the school and I don't regret it! Accessible professors, nice facilities, great program. Definitely a school for people who focus on academics, there aren't many parties and only house freshman.

As I entered, when I was a college Freshman I was very excited to attend University as a first-generation student, college proved to be challenging as a full-time student. I manage to get to know how to learn how to gravitate in a large setting from leaving a small community college, and it was quite different in many ways. From commuting to school, locating classes, learning how professor taught classes differed to how community colleges approached teaching; to managing my homework load. And each subsequent term became even more challenging, depending on the courses I would take. So, pacing myself and getting some help, and seeking my advisor and other's help early on were two avenues that help me tremendously moving forward and educating myself in finding my own sources, move me along my education path.

There is a lot to be improved. Amherst gets the attention. They raise prices on everything to be extremely expensive. That includes food and parking. They don't care as much about the quality of education. I got really lucky with my adviser, but I have heard nightmares about others. They need to start over and really get things back to how they were in 2017.

It's a good school for the money. If you want the traditional college experience this most definitely is not it. If you care to do so and try you'll easily make friends, and the school is small enough that you'll see them often. Some professors are AMAZING others are awful.

I love how big the university and how in each class you have the opportunity to meet new students from different parts of the country and world.

I transferred to the University of Massachusetts-Boston my second semester of freshman year from Mississippi State University. I am a life time resident of Massachusetts and commute to school and work 23 hours a week as a full time student. As I have been attending the school my experience and the school has gone down hill drastically. The teachers are out to push their agenda and teach material that doesn`t pertain to the class or is a very far reach. The school, administration, and vast majority of the students have a very liberal approach, which I have nothing against until it forces students to read and write about information that makes them uncomfortable and is an entirely different subject. This makes students not want to attend class. The buildings are falling apart and there is always construction happening. Not to mention it is so expensive to park, almost $500 plus a semester to park and that is not on campus. To park on campus expect to pay upwards of $1,000 for a semester. Overall, I can not wait to graduate and get my degree this school has caused one to many headaches.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for University of Massachusetts-Boston is 68%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
So far my college experience has not lived up to my expectations when I was first entering. The classes seem at the same level as my high school ones, and a lot of the material I have already learned. But just that has been a rewarding experience in itself, I'm miserable at the school I'm at now, but that has pushed me to search for other options, ones that will make me happy, and give me the rewarding experience I am looking for. I am currently enrolled at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in the Zoology for the Fall of 2010. I am extremely excited to start the next phase of my college career and feel that if not for attending UMass Boston first I would have never been pushed to attend the University of my dreams, in a field that I have always had a passion for.
If you want to hold down a steady job while going to school, this is definitely the place for you--there are classes in all subjects offered at all times of the day (and week for that matter, as well). It's better for people who don't want the typical college-frat-dorm life that you see in the movies. It's a much more mature group of students.
I love a lot of things about this school like the size and the campus. But the location is the best feature. It is located on the waterfront to Boston. The view is amazing from anywhere on campus. We are easily accesible to anywhere in Boston, I think it's ideal for students in my age range.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I consider the food because i feel that they could offer students better food. The prices are also very expensive so sometimes it would be better to just save your money and eat elsewhere.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
What I brag about the most when I tell my friends about my school is that it is very big. I also tell them that the school environment is nice and there are many students that go there. It's hard to get around with so many people.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
It's tough! You get a lot of work and you have to work really hard in order to get good grades. The teachers are also very committed to their classes and don't allow disrespect. Despite-- or maybe even because of all that, I am always confident when I walk into my classroom that I will learn something and I'm not just wasting my time.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had known what a great school UMass Boston was before I came here because I would have enrolled here my freshman year year of college as opposed to transferring my junior year.
