UMR is certainly not a traditional college experience. There are few dorms, no campus, and little community. However, the few courses I have taken were great. I can't say how the academics will be for anyone else, but for me they were excellent. The courses I took were extremely challenging, rewarding, and interesting. The quality of instruction and expectations were far harder than the AP classes I have taken.

Overall, it sounds like a pretty good place to attend college. It is focused on healthcare-based majors and courses, which is perfect for me because I want to go into medicine as my future career. I also like how it has different varieties of restaurants inside the campus itself. I have always found it very cool for schools to have restaurants and shops for the students to visit during their free time. My only problem with UMR is the tuition. For just one year, it costs $28,460. That means for four years of attending, the cost is almost $120,000. That is an astronomical amount of money to pay, considering that UMR isn't even a private university, and that the course selection is only limited to health science and medicine. I wish that the price wasn't so high, but I will continue to apply to as many scholarships as I can, so that I can hopefully bring down my tuition costs.

The University of Minnesota- Rochester is a small, currently 2 part campus that focuses on an assortment of health science related fields. They are designed to assist the student in meeting the required prerequisites for the next stage of their desired profession.

I think that the University of Minnesota-Rochester has been a great place for my continued growth in terms of both education and personal. The faculty have provided me with resources to better my education and to help me take steps towards my eventual career. The faculty work hard to make sure that they are available after class hours to help myself and other students with material discussed in class. I find the professors to be approachable and often times willing to work with my learning style to ensure I understand the material. The other students attending are inviting and friendly, providing additional assistance in my education by creating study groups open to anyone who is struggling. The intramural sports provided by the university through the YMCA provide a much needed stress relief for many and a sense of camaraderie as we both participate and spectate. Being a student who attends college far away from my home, the feeling that I get of belonging is something that makes me feel comfortable at the University of Minnesota-Rochester. I have enjoyed my time at this university and await the growth and education that is to come in the semesters that remain.

I enjoy being at this school due to its rigorous academics, small class size and the availability of its professors. What really drops this school from having a five-star rating is its lack of class options, little to non-existent nightlife and how there are very few active clubs or activities on campus. The school never brings these things to the attention of the potential students and instead students have to figure this out on their own when it is a little too late to do anything about it.

Great place to go to school! I love the atmosphere of the school and surrounding area. Safe area of Rochester to be for classes. Great apartment style dorms to live in, makes you feel like more of an adult with more responsibilities. Have enjoyed finding my way around Rochester and the campus

UMR is hard, just as any college is, but the faculty are amazing and forming connections with my professors feels very easy and they make you feel as though they really care about you because they do. Yes, they give us hard exams and challenging moral and ethical questions which make us question what is right and wrong. But they do it because everyone at UMR is going into some form of medical health science or profession, and for that, we need to have debated and reflected on such questions and have a strong academic background so that we can be the best health profession we can be and be confident in our own abilities and in turn help our patients or colleagues be confident in us as well. I love the memories I've been able to make thus far only in the freshman year, and I'm eager to return in the fall and begin my sophomore year with even more memories.

This school is a trap and you should not attend. The classes do not transfer and there are a lot of group work that is too much. If you get stuck in a group that is terrible don't expect anything for your grade. It's a trap so stay away from this place. The housing is over priced and it is given to you already damnaged so at the end of the year you'll get charged for it. Give this school 20 more years and it might get better. Low diversity and everyone is from a small farm so it sucks. Don't expect too much from this place so just got to a real college.

I absolutely love it. There is no other college in Minnesota that I would rather be at . The classroom sizes are small which is great for advanced learning. The college is also located in the heart of downtown Rochester which is very convenient for student being so close to everything.

I absolutely love how UMR is focused on Medical field and how the encourage their students to go out of their comfort zones to improve themselves. I love the academics they offer and the professors are insightful and always willing to help. The surrounding buildings such as Mayo Clinic allows the students to have a chance to talk with medical professionals, giving the students a better insight into the future goals.

UMR is a great school with professors who are not only available anytime but are completely willing to help! With smaller class sizes, professors can make time for every student, get to know each one personally, and take notice when students aren't in class. 98% of the students that graduate from UMR get a job at Mayo Clinic with a starting salary of at least $60,000 a year.
Sarah
This school is solely focused on health sciences, and so we only have two majors, of which are the Bachelor of Science in Health Science and the Bachelor of Science in Health Professions. It is a wonderful school to attend if you have your heart set on the health science field. I personally love the small campus, and the apartment style dorms. We are located in the heart of Rochester, MN so there aren't any stores like Walmart, Target, Sam's Club or Costco in walking distance, but we have a fantastic public transit transportation. We are also provided free transportation to Walmart and our closest mall, the Apache Mall.

UMR is known for its small campus and health based career paths it puts its students on.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
The first piece of advice would be in regards to finances. I learned to spend my money wisely, and efficently. I was fortunate to get financial aid to help pay for college. However, even with that I was limited to money. College is expensive, and student loans only help for some of the tuition. I would also tell myself to work a full time job during the summer to help pay for college. Spend money efficently to invest for your future.
Another piece of advice would be to meet as many people as possible. It is hard to transition into this new enviornment with all these new people. But, college is about being yourself, and meeting new people. The friends you will meet in your college years will become your lifelong friends, and you would be closer to them than high school friends. The connections and people you meet in college will help you in your future career path.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I think that there is not always much to do. Our school is so new, and it is so small as well. There are not many students in the class, and it feels like high school at times. On the weekends there is not always many events to attend with friends.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
