What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Kate

I'm a sister in a sorority on campus and I love it. Personally, I don't know what students who are not Greek do with their lives. Being in a sorority has completely shaped the rest of my college career: I met my friends, I attend numerous speeches, events, seminars as well as participate in community service and philanthropy projects every week. I've never been busier. There is always something to do on the weekend when you're Greek. Most of my guy friends are in fraternities and conviently live right across the street. I personally did not enjoy living in the dorms, I moved into my sorority house in the beginning of my sophomore year and it's so much better. We have a cleaning service, an in-house chef and free parking! It's even cheaper than the dorms!

Hockey and Football are the most predominant sports on campus. I am involved with Communication Students for Social networking where we strive to communicate with different businesses, have them come in and share their experiences. We also host workshops and job fairs for those interested in certain carreer paths. I met my closest friends in the freshman dorms. traditions every year is to get drunk on cinco de mayo. Go tailgaiting for home football games. frats and sororities are predominant on campus but interest dissolves when you become upperclassman.

SCOPE is pretty cool, they bring concerts. CAB is pretty awesome they have lots of events. Freshman leave their doors open after that no one really does unless you know most of the people on the floor. This is taking way too long I thought it would be filling in circles. sorry

Shannon

hockey is huge here. students usually don't leave their doors open, but you will probably meet your close friends in your dorms. UNH is a huge party school, and the frats here have parties pretty much every night. the school offers a lot to do on the weekends that doesnt involve drinking, but most people don't participate in those events.

Hockey is #1. Other teams/groups kind of pale in comparison. Greek life is important at UNH. I'm involved with Project Sunshine. It's a great group totally led by students. We visit local hospitals and children's homes to do art projects with the kids. We've also helped out at Pumpkin Fest in Boston and events at the Portsmouth Children's Museum. As far as open doors, it depends on the dorm I think. Congreve is really quiet and Williamson is crazy. I live in Smith and there's a strong sense of community compared to other dorms. It's also much nicer inside. I met my closest friends in my freshman dorm and my classes. If I'm awake at 2:00am on a Tuesday night I'm talking to friends. There's a large group of people on campus that party Thursday-Sunday but there's also a much smaller group that doesn't party at all. Lots are in between. There's always a game or event at the MUB to go to on a Saturday night, which I really appreciate.

My experience here has been really fun. Last year I participated in Project LEAD. The campus always feels alive- there is always something to do. I am currently living in the Gables and I like it much better than dorm life.

Football and men's hockey. Students leave door open. Athletic events which feature males are popular. Lacking guest speakers or advertisement for guest speakers. I met my closest friends through living arrangements, high school friends, and friends of friends. If i'm awake at 2 a.m. tuesday I'm doing homework for class. People party a great deal at UNH, weekdays included. I do not think that fraternities/sororities are important. Last weekend I took the train to boston and saw the ballet with my sociological analysis class. You can go see a movie at the MUB theater. Off campus I visit surrounding friends, and visit nearby attractions i.e. beach, maine.

I think getting involved in activities at UNH is a great way to meet people and expand your connections here. The MUB offers a lot of speakers, movies and shows. Most of them are free which is great being a college student. As far at community in the dorms leaving your doors open is a great way to make friends. Some of my best friends here at school are the people I lived with in the dorms. My floor was really friendly and we always had our doors open it made for a better environment.

Students sometimes leave their doors open, its dependent on the individual floors. Athletic events are very popular. The dating scene mostly revolves around drinking, hanging out in big groups, hanging out in dorms/apts. Not so much going out on dates. People party pretty much 2-3 times a week on avg. Frats/Sororities are fairly important. I did homework and went out drinking last weekend. On a saturday night i can go to the movies, do homework, go out to eat with friends, hang out in my room.

There are a lot of sport teams, and many club teams. I played on my dorm's broomball team, which is a HUGE sport here at UNH. If you like ice and are not afraid of a few bruises, this is the sport for you! Most of my closest friends I met in my dorm. I also have close friends in my classes. On a Saturday night you'll find us watching movies and having a great time, no drinking involved. UNH has VERY STRICT drinking laws when it comes to drinking in dorms. If you are under 21, you should not drink in the dorm. It is just a stupid thing to do. Even though you might hear that other colleges don't care, do not think UNH is like that. Frats and sororities are kind of a big part of camups, but only for those who like the party scene. There are some frats and sororities that do not go along with that typical image, and are professional organizations.
