Webster University was the only school I applied to because I knew I wanted this community or no community. While every student here will complain about the food, I have found it is because there is nothing else to complain about. Due to our smaller class sizes, our education feels very personalized and everyone seems to be acquainted with everyone. Professors let students take charge of their education and support them in every way they can. While this is a very artsy school, we do have sports, and the art students who would never have dreamed of attending a basketball game go out of their way to make those students feel encouraged. Webster is also a very large international campus that strives to have their students well-rounded and cultured. Never did I ever think I would meet so many different people from so many different backgrounds and love them all as much as I do. While I have never endeavored anywhere else, I feel like I can confidently say there is nowhere quite like Webster University.

I had a great experience at Webster University, where I studied music technology and jazz performance on the upright bass. The music program was challenging but immensely rewarding, and the faculty were truly engaging. I also had the unique opportunity to meet with the dean and help initiate an exchange program with Kansai University in Japan. This was a pioneering moment for Webster, as I became the first student to venture into this program, learning Japanese and opening numerous doors for my future. Many of my peers from Webster successfully transitioned into professional roles in the local music scene and beyond, demonstrating the university's effectiveness in preparing us for diverse careers. Overall, I firmly believe that Webster University is a worthwhile choice for anyone considering a liberal arts education.

Webster has a great atmosphere. The people are friendly, the professors are accessible, and it really feels like the faculty want you to succeed. Some of the dorms could use some updating, and their facilities/common areas are nothing fancy, but the common areas are one of severable relatively comfortable spaces to hang out on campus. There isn't too much walking; many shops and services in Webster Groves are within walking distance of campus. Parking can be a bit tricky sometimes; there will always be a spot available, but it may be 10 minutes away from your dorm. There is only one sorority, heavily focused on philanthropy, and no fraternities. It is primarily an arts school, but its new science building and the available equipment is impressive. It is a relatively small college, but still has many opportunities. Overall, I am glad that I picked Webster and would definitely recommend it to others.
Melinda
Professional instructor with real world experience, plus a personalized experience for graduate students. Another great aspect of Webster is having accessible advisement staff. Graduate classes are engaging and relevant, Webster was a great choice for a graduate degree.

Experience I wouldn't change for the world! With those experiences I came to fully understand the importance of Theater Education. To me, Theater education isn’t just about teaching a student to become an actor or be famous but about how the tools from theater can help you grow as a person.

Webster University is a amazing 4 year institution. Due to the school being liberal there are many opportunities for current and alumni students. In addition to great academics the University allows students to participate in extracurricular activities ran by student with the help of staff provided advisors and so much more.

Well to begin with Webster University has many branch campuses and i attend one. I can't speak for the main campus, but i dont enjoy the branch campus. It may be that they dont care about the branch campus, but i they dont have enough resources. For instance, an on campus library.

Webster University is a great school and I am very excited to continue my education here. The campus is very large, but it does have many walkways in which you can get to classes. The students and teachers are really friendly and love to help out other people.

There isn't a way to feel out of place at Webster university. There's something, somewhere, and some-one here for everybody.
The extracurriculars and clubs are fantastic. The Debate Team is always looking for new members! (We win quite a bit, too.)
I should also mention the scholarships available for good students! I got $14,000 off my yearly tuition for having a 3.5 GPA through out highschool.
Check out the scholarship calculator at Webster University's website!

Good teachers with a mix of teaching styles to accommodate all types of students, a very diverse school, very politically and religiously tolerant, lots of intelligent, open minded students and teachers, easy to find friends/friend groups, lots of events that are free or affordable, gym for all students, good food and even better coffee.

My opinion of Webster University is realistic and honest first and foremost. Webster is a great place for anyone to come and pursue their higher education. I believe that what Webster is known for or moreover what is promoted about is pretty accurate. I would definitely encourage anyone to come here and experience the exquisite amount of diversity and acceptance that I see and experience here at Webster. Not gonna type and essay although I could so I'll wrap it up like this. Webster University is like our mascot...unique, diverse, welcoming, and #GorlokStrong!!!

Webster is a great place to meet local and international students. There are many opportunities to get involved. The class sizes are small, giving you access to one on one attention. Transportation off campus is close, and you receive a free unlimited card to use the bus and trains! The advisors aren't always great at giving scheduling advice, so keep track of your credits. Overall, you will also find at least one staff that will be there to help you with any issues.

I attended Webster University in 1988 and 2015 - two very different experiences. But looking back, I realize the university hadn’t changed, it was me.
I remember a lot of alcohol back then. Drinking on campus, smoking weed in the dorms, and going to the bars underage -- these are very specific memories I have. Surprisingly enough, when I returned to Webster, there was very little drinking on campus. In fact, student groups and the campus overall frowned upon drinking. So maybe the only drinking on campus back then was mine.
I remember never having time to study. But in 2015, because I’d switched majors, I had so much more work. Somehow I got it all done. In the late 80s, it seems I never slept I was so busy with schoolwork. Perhaps the University always gave you ample time to study, it’s just my time-management skills had vastly improved.
And lastly, I remember, if you were in Conservatory, you only took theatre classes. That is no longer the case. Today, Webster University requires all majors to study beyond the narrow parameters of their majors. Something as a returning Conservatory student I was unsure of, but having had courses in everything from Business Math to World History with my Theatre Degree, I can now say I received a much broader education and communal experience.
Zero-tolerance for alcohol. Ample time to study. Well-rounded education. I’d say Webster today is a much stronger university experience and Webster alum are that much better for it.

My major is animation, just thought I'd bring it up here since it isn't listed.
Overall I love Webster. It's close enough to my house that I don't have to live on campus, it's got a great animation program that brings in impressive guest speakers, it's in a good area, and overall I just love it. That said, I've heard bad things about what they pay the staff and how the staff are treated, so it isn't flawless. Plus I'm not one to join clubs, a sports team, or anything like that, so take some of these rankings with a grain of salt.

Very good school. The student to teacher ratio is excellent. The housing for freshman is in good standing. The staff and teachers seem to give students first priority. They are reachable and very easy to talk to. The campus is in a great location.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Webster University is 46%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Don't declare a major right away. Take classes that you think sound interesting and you like, and a major will follow.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
One of the most unique aspects of Webster is how many student organizations are on campus given the small population. Between the approximate 2,000+ students on campus there are 70+ clubs and organizations on campus run by students themselves. Everyone loves interacting with each other and talking about real issues. When tough times hit our country, many students didn't know how to respond. Many got together and reached out into the community to help others cope. Overall, it is a very serving and friendly community to be a part of.
I love Webster. I really struggled with my college decision, and once I visited Webster, I knew this was where I wanted to go. My favorite part of the school is its diversity. Everyone can find a group here. And it doesn't even have to be with people that are in your major! I'm a vocal performance major, and my best friends are business management, video production and photography! you get exposed to so many different types of people, and you end up having a lot more fun that way. if i had to pick something to complain about, it would be parking. but, for parking, you get a spot in the garage, so it's not all bad. you just have to walk a ton. but if that's the worst thing I can think of, that's definitely not bad
Academics here are obviously the central aspect. Class sizes are really small, so professors know your name and know the class really well. This helps them figure out what is the best way to effectively teach the class and what material to really focus on. Professors make themselves really available as well. The usually give out their email address and sometimes even their cell phone number. That's really great if you are having trouble understanding the homework and need to get in contact with them. We also have a ton of really interesting classes here. We have classes about the TV show Seinfeld, World of Warcraft, and the pursuit of happiness, to name a few. Webster's a really good place to explore new fields and areas of study that you might not be able to anywhere else.
A person open to change, willing to accept others' differences, and also people who wish to succeed in their areas of expertise. As an Audio Production Major I am getting the best education available to me.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
As a commuter student, one of the most frustrating things about Webster is the availability of parking spots. Although I am always lucky enough to find a spot, on most days I have to park in the garage which isn?t convenient for any of my classes. One way to know if it is going be a good day or bad day is, whether or not you can find a close parking spot.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The stereotype of students at our school is that everyone is artsy. This is definitely not accurate, we have all kinds of people here. We are DIVERSE and pride ourselves on that! Coming to Webster you will find all kinds of different people with different interests.
Webster University is well known for their travel abroad studies. Webster also is a private university. I am blessed to be able to pay for my college education thus far, but since the new laws were implemented (july 01 2012) I am struggling to pay for my classes and I am approaching my graduation date. I have applied for scholarships abroad and beyond and to no avail have I found any finacial resources to help assist with financing my last semesters at webster. webster does not seem to know of any additional resources.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
The only kind of person that should not attend this is a person with a bad attitude. Everyone here is positive and hard working. No one will coddle someone who is not trying to do the same.
Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
while we are a really diverse school, we do have a fair amount of a certain type of students, like hipsters and artsy kids. however, this by no means implies that they are unfriendly or anything like that. we just have more kids that are interested in more artistic activities, like making movies, music, drama, dance, writing, etc. than other things, like sports. that doesn't mean people don't like sports, though! the most important thing about webster is that it's a really friendly student body.
What is the stereotype of students at your school?
If I had to choose a stereotype of Webster students I would say that we are liberal artists, there are a lot of art majors here, visual, dance, music, performance. We all bled into a group of talented, outspoken students
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
Webster is a small school and has a large commuting student body. Because of this there isn't usually a lot of people on campus during the weekends, nor are there a lot of large activities. There is usually something happening on campus during the weekends, but the events aren't highly attended. If you have a car there are things going on in St. Louis during the weekend but you have to look for them. But overall there isn't a lot of campus activity over the weekends.
Better food than any of the other colleges I visited senior year. The cafeteria has a section where you custom-order your meals and they cook it on the grill in front of you! We also have a board of students who advise campus dining services, and they have fought for healthier food in recent years-- local, organic, etc.
really interesting! professors are really knowledgeable and are interested in your academic success. classes are also really small, so you definitely get individual attention. the only downside is that your teachers know when you're not in class :)
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
97% of students attending Webster University receive some sort of financial aid.
36% were awarded federal grants.61%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
