As a criminal defense lawyer, we often stand physically by someone’s side when they feel like the world (or at least the city, state, or federal government) are against them. Though our job is to defend our clients, it’s often not about whether or not we believe they are guilty or deserve punishment. It’s about giving them the protection and due process they are entitled to as someone accused of a crime in the United States.
Often, we also serve as a source of support and human compassion for our clients. We all need that person sometimes, regardless of who we are or what situations we find ourselves in.

The Steel Root Scholarship is intended to encourage skilled young applicants to enter the field of cybersecurity – a field where the demand for talent far exceeds the supply. This is open to all Massachusetts students in their junior year of high school, the scholarship has an application deadline of October 31st.
The Ceiba Foundation for Tropical Conservation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit international conservation organization committed to fostering and supporting diversity in environmental science. Our Humboldt Diversity Scholarships enable students from under-represented racial and ethnic groups and of limited financial means to travel to the tropics and gain international experience in biological research and conservation. Scholarships can only be applied to Ceiba’s “Tropical Conservation Semester: Galapagos, Andes, and Amazon”, or one of our summer programs in Ecuador or Belize. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000. Award availability and scholarship amounts vary according to the number and need of applicants, and the length of the program.

The Women of Color Professional Development Fund is for currently enrolled MIT Women of Color undergraduate and graduate students. The LBGTQ+ Professional Development Fund is for currently enrolled MIT LBGTQ+ undergraduate and graduate students.
“People of Color” includes Black, Indigenous, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islanders, and other minoritized ethnicities. “Women” includes transgender women, cisgender women, and non-binary women. LBGTQ+ includes all minoritized sexual orientations and gender identities.

Funds will be available on a rolling basis throughout the year. These funds are available to currently enrolled MIT undergraduate and graduate students only. Students are eligible for up to $300 per calendar year. If your request exceeds that, please explain.
My Sister’s Keeper (MSK) is a collaborative initiative that is designed to help support the continued success of Black women at MIT.
MSK was created to bring together Black women across MIT campus (grad and undergrad, staff, post-docs, and faculty) to create a supportive, enduring, and inspiring community. It is a unique organization supporting Black women with social, mentoring, and informal relationships.
It includes transgender women, cisgender women, and non-binary women.
The Gwendolyn Gives Perseverance Education Scholarship is awarded annually to college students currently pursuing a bachelors degree in education. Scholarships are awarded in amounts ranging from $500-$5000 annually. Applicants can begin submitting their application in October of each year, and the deadline for submission is February 15th. EducationDynamics will award one $10,000 scholarship! This scholarship is open to all minority applicants who are the first in their families to go to college, are at least 17 years of age and are pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree at an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning or a certificate program. Deadline to submit your application is August 30, 2025. Winners will be notified on or about November 15, 2025.
