09/01/2024Southwestern College is an institution that cares about its students, their families, and the community. Unfortunately, Southwestern College is divided into five campuses, some of which are very small. Most of the big events happen at the main campus, but the other campuses do put effort into building and supporting their communities; it just doesn't feel the same as the main campus. There are plenty of resources, housing, and a big emphasis on helping students achieve their goals. We assist students from all backgrounds, groups, or communities. There is food available for free for all students, but also for our homeless peers. I've seen institutions assist different communities, but I haven't seen other institutions put so much effort into helping homeless students. If you identify with a race, ethnicity, group, or community, there is something for you in this college, even if you're a minority. If there is not, you can always get involved at school, and you will be heard. Our college makes one of the most amazing magazines in San Diego, bringing awareness to its readers. It is all made by students. Schools always invest money into improving the facilities or programs to benefit their students AND community. The school occasionally brings guest speakers like Dany Trejo or other important and inspirational figures, which are free of cost and open to the public. Sometimes, they will host important conferences such as TED Talks or similar events. There are always events on campus. If you're in a club, you can host events and travel somewhere. If you're into arts, they will provide space for you to showcase your art in the school gallery. The only thing I regret about being enrolled in this college? Being enrolled online, oh, I miss so much that college experience, meeting new amazing individuals, making connections, and making friends.
Like any other college, it has its downfalls, and I believe some teachers can be too much sometimes for some students, but if you let one thing outweigh the many great things this school has to offer, then I don't know what to tell you.
I will transfer the following semester, but believe me, I will return; I'm not done taking classes here.

03/20/2023Southwestern College- Chula vista allows low-income families to go through college in an inexpensive way. They also provide programs such as the promise grant that can get you 2-years of free tuition. They also actively advocate for you to apply for FAFSA and scholarships.
To the High school students that wants to accumulate as many college credits as possible in an alternative way other than AP classes, please be aware that you can take dual enrollment classes. This is highly recommended. Unlike AP classes, when you finish that semester's course, you don't have to pay to take the AP exam and pass it in order get college credits; you simply just have to pass the overall class at no cost to you. It will credit you both high school and college credit. Kill two birds with one stone. It will save you hundreds, if not, even thousands in tuition, books, and supplies. You won't even need to go to their campus, professors assigned to certain departments and courses will go to your school during school hours to teach you in school grounds and resume as you would in a regular high school class, except, you might get off early in terms of time of the day, which is a bonus.

09/26/2020My opinion on Southwestern College -Chula Vista is, I believe it's a good Community college to attend if you're either trying to graduate with a minor or transfer into a 4-year college to get a Bachelors's or Major. With 5 different locations, It has multiple major options such as Nursing, Law enforcement, Real estate, Chemistry, etc.

04/15/2020My opinion of the school is great opportunity for people who get right out of high school and don't want to get into debt right away and is learning how to transition from high school. The other thing is it is cheap also so it can help you with paying your bill instead of taking out loans. I think the guidance counselors are very helpful with helping you arrange with classes. I feel like it is a good way to learn how to be an adult and to learn about the outside world.
