Art Center College of Design

This school is great for self disciplined and social people. The main appeal is the connections and relationships you build there. If you're someone who relies more on structure and clear direction, you may struggle significantly to make the best use of the resources here. The programs are also very rigorous and mental and physical health are not always well supported. This makes time management and being vocal extremely important. You should stick to your values and stand up for yourself, and know that the schools' culture – which can sometimes be toxic – is very engrained and difficult to change. That said, the work ethic I developed there is something I know I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. The facilities and shop staff are amazing and care a lot for the safety of the students. You'll have access to top notch machinery, prototyping labs, and more. Overall, there are major benefits and major pitfalls, and like anything, it should be thoroughly researched before you jump in. Ultimately, I believe this school is best for those that know exactly what they want and can self direct.

Art Center College of Design is a great school to challenge yourself creatively and intellectually. There won't be a semester that you don't excel at a certain skill or even multiple. The student work life is so vigorous at the campus and work ethics are insane in comparison to the real work life. It is definitely a great place to push yourself and plenty of portfolio pieces in such a short amount of time. The main downside to the school life at Art Center is the lack of work life balance. I find plenty of students struggling with being able to maintain a healthy social life, sleep schedule, and dietary plan. (Honestly, almost impossible to achieve all of them with such a busy schedule).

Its a beautiful school, very demanding at times overwhelming.

The classes and the workload is intense but worth your time. The professors ask a lof out of you but also spend time and efforts making sure that you succeed. If you are dedicated to art and design and are willing to work hard and dive deep, this is the right place for you.

Art Center is probably one of the best art colleges in the country. The campus is small but safe and comfortable. You always see students here working and staying overnight to finish assignments. It's almost as people live on campus sometimes. The teachers are probably the best part because many of them actually work in the industry that you're majoring in so the teaching and information you get from it is top notch. I love this school a lot.

Many of us have grown up playing video games and remember fondly of always having to yell out to our parents that we just need five more minutes of game time before coming down to dinner. That addiction and thrill of immersing oneself in a fictional world has led people to dream of leading an easy life as a video game creator, of a laid back life of leisure and games. Yes, people with scoff at this highly idealized vision and will shoot down dreams of any possibility that this will happen. However, ArtCenter gladly embraces dreams such as this and cultivate it. It is not an easy path to becoming say a concept artist or a visual development artist but ArtCenter brings with it a plethora of talented teachers and an environment of hard-working students who thrive on the passion of their peers. This is not an easy school like a university where you can skip classes and only study the day before a massive exam but rather people feed the need to draw and practice everyday to be better than their fellow classmates. With how competitive the entertainment world is today, ArtCenter is designed to aid in creating a portfolio for work opportunities and giving access to contacts who are already highly successful. Furthermore, while ArtCenter may be lacking in some areas such as in-campus housing, there are plenty of apartments and single rooms in the area plus many forms of public transportation including the free school shuttle. It's not the perfect school nor is it the least expensive, but having access to amazing classes and shops, not to mention a competitive environment makes this an ideal option for those who are serious about their career.

They're are many well-known designers that teach at ArtCenter College of Design. In the graphic department many instructors are committed to teach us everything they know and have experienced in the real world of art and design. They are strict but that is the only way to get the students motivated and gain the knowledge they need to know. What I learned is that the instructors and faculty will help students when that student is 100% committed and passionate with what they want to achieve. If you aren't passionate and confident with what you're doing, the school can only do so much for you.

Art Center is very challenging in different ways than many universities. Here, you are thrown into the real world straight out of high school. Since I am a film major, we have to find our own actors and set locations. Art Center provides you with the necessary tools to succeed but it is up to you to make sure you, as the student, push yourself out of your comfort zone and network as much as possible before graduation!

While there can definitely be improvements, Art Center College of Design is one of the finest places that a person can master their craft as an artist. The knowledge and expertise of the teachers is superb, and the amount of resources available to the students' disposal is unparalleled. At art center you are surrounded by not only good teachers, but fellow aspiring students that will allow you to build your network for future endeavors and opportunities in the industry.
