What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Amelia

Sororities/fraternities, student council, and sports teams tend to be the most popular on campus. I'm in a sorority and I also participate in two organizations that support the lacrosse team and the basketball team. Yes, students in dorms leave their doors open all the time. Athletic events are very popular and guest speakers and theaters are not as popular. I met my closest friends during rush and through my sorority. The dating scene doesn't really exist... Either you hang out in groups at things and eventually turn into a couple or you don't date. Guys don't just randomly ask girls out that they don't really know on dates like they used to. If I'm awake at 2 am on Tuesday I am either in the library or at one of my friend's apts watching tv. Different people party different amounts- I know some that go out once or twice a week and some that go out 5 or 6 nights a week. I think fraternities and sororities are very important. They give you a sense of family in a place where you can feel TOTALLY overwhelmed by all of the new people and adjustments during your time at college. You can do anything on a Saturday night that doesn't involve drinking. Most fraternities have band parties on Saturday nights, you can go to the bars and not drink, or you can go bowling or just go to the movies. I participate in Boy's and Girl's club off campus. It's a day care for kids and each girl in our sorority volunteers to help out for two hours each month!

Greek organization, UPC. Athletic events are the most popular event. I would say about 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of people have boyfriends and girlfriends. I met my friends through my sorority. If I'm awake at 2AM tuesday morning I am probably studying; Thursday or Friday- at the bars. Tiger Walk, football games, pep rallies. People party every night of the week. Sororities and Frats are really important. Last weekend I went out of town to UGA.

Elizabeth

the most popular organizations is the greek system. I am a member of Phi beta pi. students in the dorm leave there dorms open at least the people that i have been around. I'm in a sorority and it was one of the best things I did for myself. Thats where I met most of my good friends. Students may leave the dorm door to their room unlocked but the entrances of the dorms are always locked unless you have a tiger card that can unlock it. I kept my door locked when I wasn't there and at night. Football is VERY popular. I never missed a home game this past season I'm not a big basketball or baseball fan so I don't go to many games. But many of my friends go to a lot of them. Some traditons are pep rallys in the fall for the big football games, rolling Toomer's corner, Tiger Walk, and so many others. Sororities are important to me since I am involved in one, but they aren't extremely important. I have many friends in sororities/fraterities and many who are not. Its not the end of the world if you don't join one, it just depends on your personality and prefernces. Last weekend I just hung out with my friends and went to the bars. If you dont drink and want something fun to do on a Saturday night there are always band parties and house parties.

Courtney

I do not leave my door open in the dorm. I am involved in UPC and interior design groups ASID and IIDA. I am also a member of a sorority. I met my closest friends through my sorority. Fraternities and Sororities are really important to me. It is a great way to make friends.

Sports are big at Auburn. Football season is chaos but we have the time of our lives. There is always something going on whether it be frat band parties, pool parties, field days or specials at the bar. Downtown is where the nightlife is. The bars are a lot of fun and is where everyone ends up later on in the night. House parties are pretty common, band parties are very popular. Every fraternity has a couple big parties a year and they always have a good turn out. UPC brings high profile celebs to our campus twice a year. We've recently had people such as Ludacris, Deirks Bently, Soulja Boy, Akon, 311, Ryan Cabrera, etc.

Molly

Atheltic events are very popular. I go to football games, baseball games, basketball, swimming and gymnastics. I think it is important to support our student athletes. If I am awake at 2am on tuesday I am probably in the libraru studying for a big test on Wednesday b/c I am a procrastinator. Fraternites and sororites are important. Most of my friends are from my sorority, and if not I have met them through events with my sorority. But i do have a lot of Independent friends that I hang out with a lot. It just depends on your preference if you like greek life or not. Saturday nights if I don't drink i go to upc events or athletic events or the movies or dinner with friends.

Dylan

I am on the volleyball team and love it. I think the club sports and intramural sports are a big part of being at AUburn. I've never lived in a dorm so I'm not sure if people leave their doors open. Athletic events are very popular. I met my closet friends in class. The alpha psi rodeo is a yearly event that I look forward to.

Allison

A saturday night that doesn't involve drinking involves going out to dinner a movie and getting ice cream or renting a movie. Or leaving Auburn because there isn't that much to do.

Meg

I think the most popular groups on campus are definitely sororities and fraternities. I am a member of Pi Beta Phi. I live in the dorm and I would say 95{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} leave their door unlocked. Athletic events are very popular especially football. I would like to see AU's basketball team have a good crowd. Not as many people attend guest speakers. I went to a guest speaker the other day and I bet there weren't over 100 people there. I met my closest friends through my sorority. If I am awake at 2 am on tues I am either studyin or doing homework. I would say people party one day a week and both nights on the weekend.

Rachael

Auburn's social life is very fun. Since it is a small college town, the things to do sometimes get repetitive. Overall, I really enjoy the social life.

Katherine

Student Government plays a large roll on campus. The greek life is very large on campus involvement wise. The great part about Auburn though is that you do not have to be greek. You can still find your place with non-greeks and greeks even if you are not a part of one. Auburn has many fraternites that have band parties each weekend that are always great. There are always sporting events going on that many people attend. There is always someone to call to hang out with and if you don't feel like doing anything that exciting on a Saturday night there is still someone to call you just might have to dig a little. The big week day to go out in Auburn is Wednesday night because it is 19 and up at the bars.

Kirstin

Being in a sorority is a great way to meet people right away but also some of my best friends are not in sororities.

Elizabeth

Greek life is a major part of Auburn I think. It is a great way to meet many new people, boys and girls. It is also a great social life because of formals and socials and parties and swaps. Athletic events are a lot of fun. The party scene just depends on who you are and what you choose to do; what your preference is.

Carey

There are tons of social activities at Auburn. They do alot of really cool events for non-greeks which is cool and alot of schools don't do that. But if you want something to do every night you'd have to be in the greek community because there is always something going on, which is often mandatory for these people and therefore hurts their grades i feel.

Alyssa

Greek life is big in Auburn. I am in a sorority and i love it. Students leave their doors open in the dorms but the main front doors are locked. I always feel safe on auburns campus. Obviously football is huge in auburn and tailgating is so much fun. On a tuesday at 2am it really depends on what im doing. I could be out for a social or a swap or I could be studying for an upcoming test. Partying is pretty big but students definitely take school seriously. This weekend is a huge weekend: Sigma Phi Epsilon's Waikiki party that starts on wednesday and goes till sunday and Alpha Psi's Rodeo on saturday during the day.

Rory

The socail life is good and its a great safe atmosphere. Fraternities and sororities play a big role in meeting people but so does athletics. I feel at auburn if you are not part of something it is hard to meet people.

Ashlyn

I know not a big percentage of Auburn is Greek, but I feel that fraternity and sorority's are very popular. Also the football team is popular. I'm apart of Pi Beta Phi and I really enjoy it. I have met some of my bestest friends through my sorority, and I've gotten so many opportunities to interact and help our community. Students in dorms probably leave their doors unlocked more than they should. I know I do. I don't leave the door open though. Athletic events are extremely popular, it's always full in the stadium!

Torry

The most popular groups on campus are the Greeks. The Black Student Union seeks to become a brand name on campus, as more than just an organization where Black students meet, greet and eat. It has put a lot of emphasis in the last two academic years on community service. W.E.G.L. 91.1 has been on the air since April 1971. It seeks to promote local music and wants to have more involvement in campus signature events, as well as provide a variety of music and programming. I live off campus, so I do not know whether most students leave their dorm rooms doors open. Athletic events are the most popular on campus. Guest speakers are sometimes popular, depending on who the speakers area. There is not enough interest in theater. I am too busy to go out dating because I am a graduate student, am involved with activities on-campus and off-campus and I have to take care of my own household. I met my closest friends at church. If I'm awake at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday, I am either studying, working on preparation for my W.E.G.L. 91.1 program War Eagle '70s, or watching "The Young and the Restless" recording on VCR earlier in the day for replay or all three things. Tiger Nights, Tiger Stomp, War Eagle mascots flying over the stadium pre-game are some of the traditions. People party more often during football season. Greeks are uber-important. Last weekend, I watched the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on TV and celebrated Easter. Stay home, eat dinner, study and/or watch TV. I volunteer with the Black Student Union and attend Mosaic Family Church off campus; I also live off campus.
