What should every freshman at Belmont University know before they start?

I would say to keep a level head and to not get wrapped up in the process too much. You have to remind yourself that it is only college. It isn't the rest of your life. If you hate the school you end up at, you can always transfer. Some people aren't made for college at all and parents and students need to be open to that option. You may end up at a school you thought you would love but it turns out to be not your place, and that is okay. Go live in the woods for a year, see the great wall, go live in your parents basement. College is not the end all be all. But the biggest thing to remember is to FOLLOW YOUR HEART. When you're choosing a college, when you get to college, when you face decisions in college, always follow your heart. If you really want to make the most of it all, then just go for it. Don't hold back, be yourself, and have a blast.

I think that the student needs to look for a school that will meet all, or at least most, of his or her needs. I chose Belmont, because I could get my music education degree as well as obtain a degree in songwriting, my passion. It allowed me security and gave me the chance to follow my dreams while getting the education of a lifetime. Find a school that can give you the best education in your field that you can afford. The investment will be more than worth the training that you receive. As for parents, if the school that can give your child the brightest hope for a sucessful future is farther away than you anticipated, be very brave and let them go. If they are as strong and motivated as you believe them to be, they will reach heights that they could have never hoped for at the community college down the street. I came from a very small town in east Texas, and my parents let me move to Nashville, Tenessee to pursue a top notch education from Belmont. It was the best thing that ever happened to me.
