I couldn't imagine myself going to college before I set foot on Brevard's campus. It's a college unlike any assumption you've been led to make about college, a beautifully tight-knit community where students, faculty, and even administration are consistently connected and in communication with one another. Brevard's current President, David C. Joyce lives within a few steps of the freshman dorms, abutting campus, along with his wife and "campus dog" Pisgah. If there's one word for the school, it's 'personable.' Walking around our cozy, beautiful campus you see all smiles. As someone who loves to get outside I've found my niche with Brevard as we are in the mountains and mere minutes from Pisgah National Forest. Head to the cafe or on-campus coffee shop alone and chances are you'll leave having made a new friend. The school's faculty strive to make themselves available to each individual student. And there's something for everyone to keep occupied, both in class and out of it. Brevard students "learn by doing" with what's known as experiential education, whether that means engaging in a literary discussion, dusting for fingerprints in the forensics lab, constructing a set or playing a role in our wonderful theatre, working to solve climate change, mentoring students at Brevard Middle School, kayaking down Davidson River, playing your sport with the utmost dedication, or as is the case for most of us, a blend of these. We live well, we eat well, we work well, we play well. It's really a wonderful place of higher education. For the person who dreads the poster image of college with its huge impersonal buildings and staff and students, who enjoys learning and experiencing new things, who can't be confined to just one interest, and who loves the idea of a college dynamic that is more like a home and family than a detached sea of faces milling to classes all day long-Brevard is for you.

It’s a nice small school, the amenities could be a a lot better/updated and the food selection could definitely be better, they’re getting better about events but it’s still not good enough considering the price that the students pay to attend the school
ANGIE - 04/10/2019
During several visits to campus, I have noticed that there are always activities posted for students in all areas of interest to participate in. Dorms are clean and were quiet both times we toured. Faculty is seen throughout campus, not just in the classroom and always friendly. The campus is beautiful and very calming with a creek that runs through the middle of campus.

It is a very good school for those who want to get their general AA then do a direct transfer. I do not intend to attend this college for my bachelor's and master's, so I cannot speak for their programs. The teachers I had were very competent and genuine, the food is excellent, students are intellectually stimulating and there are always fun activities going on here.
Taryn - 05/31/2018
It isa place where you must make your own fun, but the class sizes allow for hands on experience and one on one experience. This is a school that is very big on everyone coming together and a very friendly community. It is small, so you get to know everyone really quick.

It is a great college. I have no complaints about my time here. There are many outdoor activities in the area. The professors are very interactive and knowledgeable. The class size is small and you get to know your classmates and teacher very well. The campus is easy to get around and the social life is pretty good.

I am currently a Sophomore at Brevard College and i can honestly say that my first year their was better than ever intended. Before attending, i knew it was a small school and didn't plan on much happening, but i have made more and better friends than i have ever thought. I am also a current Womens Lacrosse player for Brevard and i couldn't love it anymore. My team is great and the experience and bond we have with one another is more than anything like high school. We are a family and thats what i love best. The number one thing i love about Brevard is the learning environment. I tried very hard in high school and sometimes i still wouldn't be able to make the grades i wanted. Brevard has small class sizes compared to other universities and this is my favorite thing about it. i have succeeded more and enjoyed learning more than ever. You are able to get one on one learning with professor and the class sizes average from 10-25. I have made outstanding grades from this experiences and i know 100% if i went to a bigger university, i could never get this kind of outlook. I love it here and plan on spending all 4 years here. Highly recommend to all who learn better in smaller group and want to have a great college experience.

I enjoy the school a lot. It is a safe environment that allows complete focus at all times. There are so many ways to get involve on campus. As a student-athlete, I prefer to play football and lift weights with my free time. The cafeteria food is also great.

I love attending Brevard college! I enjoy being able to be at the school achieving an education, and also I love being surrounded by these beautiful mountains. I am also blessed to be a Brevard college athlete.

it is an average school, was expecting much more from when I had the campus tour. buildings are run down and need maintenance. class sizes are perfect they're not big and teachers are there to help. athletics are okay facilities could be better. campus itself is beautiful but needs some work. the people are friendly and very involved in the community.

Brevard College is a small liberal arts college in Brevard, North Carolina. We are a private college and have around 724 students currently enrolled. The professors are great and the people there are just amazing.
I have made life-long friends and I am glad that I have been a part of the BC family this year.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Brevard College is 42%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
VISIT VISIT VISIT! Meet professors, talk to students. IGNORE the ADMISSIONS STAFF.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
Brevard College is best suited for students who prefer to be part of a small community. It would not be appropriate for a student looking to be a part of a large, bustling campus. In addition to the small campus and class size, the town of Brevard is also quite small.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
Sometimes it does get boring when the town shuts down at like 7pm on weekdays and 9pm on weekends. The cost is probably the majority of student's problem. It is so expensive and not very many scholarships are handed out. I only have a soccer and academic scholarship, and their amounts only cover a small bit of the tuition.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I would have known how lax the curriculum is. While the school provides a great "college environment", it is weak in academics. The classes I have taken so far (granted I've only been here one semester so far) were super easy. I was expecting college to be stressful, and insanely difficult neither of with has happend here so far.
The small population. It is so much easier to get to know those people so go to school with and make friends. The teachers can work one on one with you and you don't feel like your being rushed because there are so many other people waiting.
Brevard College is an amazing community that welcomes people from all walks of life with open arms. I am so glad that I chose to come to Brevard. The faculty and staff here at the college are so welcoming and helpful in times of need. They are always willing to go the extra mile to help you, and you never feel like you are unwanted.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Here at Brevard, the great outdoors is very important. From biking to hiking, bowling to debating: there is something to do every second of the day. Being with good friends and enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds the campus is the most common activity here at the college.
There are small class sizes which means that you have to give one hundred percent to all your work. It can be challenging, but it is also a lot of fun to have professors who push you to be the very best that you can be. The staff is always helpful and is always willing to lend an encouraging word when you are feeling down.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
What is unique about my shcool is that it is a very small university, which I consider to be a great thing. Being a small university, it gives me a chance to be more hands on. It allows me to gain one on one time with my preffesor and take away more from the lesson. At Brevard the motto is "learn by doing" which gives students more of a chance to be involed. At Brevard you can engage yourself in many different clubs that help you obtain leadership goals. At breavrd you'll join a close knit family.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The biggest stereotype of the students here at Brevard College is that we are a music school only. Although we have a phenomenal musical program here at the college, there is also so much more that Brevard has to offer. Another stereotype of the students here is that we are a hard partying school. Even though we like to have fun every once in a while; we take our studies very seriously and have great relationships with the faulty and staff here at Brevard.
Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
Luckily these stereotypes are really not true at all. So a lot of us do love nature more than most schools, but the main reason for that is we live in Brevard, NC which is right next door to Pisgah National Forest and Dupont Forest. We are known as the land of the waterfalls because we have over 260 waterfalls right in our backyard (I mean wouldnt you love nature a little more if you could go do your homework beside a 200 ft waterfall). Also we have a program here known as WLEE (Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education) which is for students who really love the nature and wish t pursue careers in that area. Classes include Kayaking, Backpacking, rock climbing, Immersion whcih is a 20 day backpacking trip (think of it as your final project for the major).
We are definitly not anti athletics. At Brevard we have a total of about 650 students and over 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of them are athletes. Our sports include Football, Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, Track and Field, Cheerleading, Cycling, Golf, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Softball. Me being a music major I dont really know a lot about the atheltics but i do know that i have made some great friends who are atheltes and even though there is some students who are "anti" athletes that is a very small percentage of the school. Since Brevrd is so small we all really want everyone to succeed in what ever they are pursuing.
Granted that music is a very important and popular major at this school, not everyone who goes here studies music. Most peole getus confused with the Brevard Music Center which is a school that takes place during the summer that is all music (hince the name of the school). However we do have a very good music program and we have an incredibly talented faculty and staff.
We are definitly not all rich kids. Just because this is a private and it is a litle more expensive than most 87{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student body has some sort of financial aid. $7 million in aid was coordinated for Brevard College students in 2003-2004 for 578 students (thats alot of money). Nd believe me if BC wasnt so willing to help with Financial Aid then i wouldnt have been able to go there.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
It is a beautiful area. We are the only area in the country with White Squirrls. I love how we have small classes and it is easy to connect with other students and the professors. There is not a lot to do social wise, but there is a lot to do in the outdoors; like hiking, fishing, kayaking, mountain climbing and biking, etc. Brevard is a small town, but there are several neat places to go to nearby... like Asheville, Hendersonville, lakes, and ski resorts.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
100% of students attending Brevard College receive some sort of financial aid.
50% were awarded federal grants.76%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
