I strongly believe that BYUH is a great school. As an adolescent I dreamed of attending this school. My family and I are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, so I felt it would be perfect if I attended this school! Three years ago I had the privilege to be a part of the church's FSY program located in BYUH. After the program I truly fell in love with the school. Fast forward three years, I am now attending the school. BYUH does not only offer educational growth, it offers spiritual growth as well. We’re able to strengthen our knowledge and our spiritual testimony. The campus is also very diverse! We have students from all over the world. With this diversity, we are able to improve our communication skills. Were able to have cultural competency. Not to mention, this school is also located in one of the most beautiful places on earth. My home. This school is truly a blessing.
Now, Brigham Young University- Hawaii is not perfect. We do have our cons. One of the cons that I feel is the biggest would be the honor code. I understand that as a Mormon school we have our beliefs and morals, but at times it can be a little extreme. Our honor code is quite strict and sometimes a little hard to follow. I recall witnessing a girl get sent home by the cafe workers because of her shorts. Her shorts were not that short. I recall my friend getting sent home from church because her dress was “revealing.” Her dress was not revealing. I recall many incidents that I feel like weren't “incidents” at all. With the topic of Honor code and school system I believe one of the other cons would be that most of the workers here on campus are students. I love how the students get to work on their campus, but at times they only know as much as I do. I believe it would be best if we had more workers with experience and/or workers that do not attend the school. Overall, Brigham Young University- Hawaii is a great college, but just like any other college it has its pros as well as cons. There's many things to be worked on.

Brigham Young University- Hawaii is the perfect place for students to obtain the cultural influence they need. The university itself is packed full of a plethora of students from all over the world and with that. Brings many different ideas and cultural impacts into the school, making learning there an experience like none other. I have honestly enjoyed my time at BYU Hawaii for so many different reasons. One is the professors on campus. Each one is there to make sure that we are receiving the best opportunity possible to succeed in life. Each one is always there to answer our questions/concerns and is very personable to every one of their students. Another reason would be the many different opportunities to learn about different cultural beliefs and learn more life skills instead of just what you are planning to study. Here at BYU Hawaii, they allow every one of us to grow and expand our talents and gifts. They offer us not just a major but multiple minors as well so that we are better able to serve those around us and ourselves in more ways than just one. Everyone at BYU Hawaii is so friendly and is always willing to help in any way that they can. Overall, I have loved my experience here at BYU Hawaii and I know that anyone else wanting to apply to this school will love it as well.

Brigham Young University Hawaii is a very safe and secure environment for the students as well as the community. It's in a very isolated area away from any cities which gives it a more peaceful atmosphere. Great for families and overall staff and students.

I think it is a safe and perfect place to grow your knowledge to also grow connections as this is a big international school. Also the culture that is within the school is a safe and inclusive culture. The school teaches and encourages good morals and assures that everyone has an equal opportunity to learn

It is a pretty fun school. Everyone is super nice and the teachers are chill. Class sizes are small so it is easy to get to know your professors and fellow students. The atmosphere is super cool because there are people from all over the world attending the university so you become friends with people who have lived in cultures very different from you and you get a very international feel. Each culture is celebrated and expressed, and you get to learn about it all. The university is a very warm, welcoming place. There is a feeling there that you cannot find anywhere else, it is special.

Literally BYU Hawaii has changed my life. I have friends with people from countries that I have never heard of, the most ideal class size, professors that I know care about me and my dreams. There is a lot of diversity and everyone has an important place.
Madissun - 10/11/2021
I loved it here. There was so much to learn about my major and other cultures. It was important for me to be able to learn about so many different places and make friends from all over the world. I also loved living so close to the beach. The only downside is that housing can be a hassle with so many people coming from the Mainland and other countries.

Brigham Young University Hawaii is a beautiful place. It really does complete the Hawaiian life. It is small just like our little island of Oahu. It is very diverse. Being there enabled me to meet people from countries I never really though about. And not just friends but life long friendships were created. I can say that I have a best friend from Hong Kong. The campus is small, but just enough for a university experience. Although we don't have a sports program anymore, we still have spirit! Our intramural sports are strong. And we have huge festivities to celebrate our different cultures. BYU Hawaii is small but mighty. You don't get the college life or parties and drinking or losing your virginity early. It is a safe place. Where all try their very very best to live to the highest standards. Sometimes people complain that our standards are too strict. But I found that the standards are inspired. They are they to keep us safe and give us the best college experience possible.

It is a gorgeous campus. I am hoping to go in 2021. The campus is small so your professors care and know about you. There is a beach close and the Temple. There are several places to work that are within walking distance as well. The students are diverse and super friendly. It is a great school.

BYU-Hawaii is a generally safe place to go to school and has good programs and some majors that are not offered anywhere else. I think that I am lucky to be able to come to school here. Its a beautiful open campus and the professors actually try to help the students to succeed in all they want to do.
Mark - 01/27/2020
It is a remarkable school. The culture and opportunities here are like no other. If you want culture and experiences like no other, come to BYUH. Be that as it may, this isn't a party school, do not come for that kind of life. Come to learn, come to have fun, come to be something more than you are.
Koa - 01/08/2020
I enjoy going to school here. The class sizes are smaller and make it great for learning and interacting with the professors. There are many resources here on campus. It is also very diverse giving an opportunity to learn about other cultures. Because of the honor code here, students don't participate in drinking or doing drugs, this provides a great opportunity for learning, with a focus on self progression. It is a great campus.
Toni - 05/22/2019
It's a small school on the island of Oahu, filled with the Aloha spirit. It's easy to feel like a family and have much-needed support during your academic journey. I love small classroom sizes and appreciate being around others who share similar values to me, as well as the diverse cultures the school has accumulated from all over the world. It is truly a unique academic experience.
Abi - 04/21/2019
BYU-Hawaii is a great school that has opportunities for all kinds of people. They have over 80 different majors and minors that are offered to give students a variety of classes to choose from. The atmosphere here is also very welcoming and studious. Education is very valued and the professors and advisors want to help you as you go along your college experience. This school is wonderful and beautiful to attend and I am proud to be a part of the BYU-Hawaii Ohana.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell myself three things: 1. Get the best grades you can. I wish I had put my mind more towards my studies at first. Instead of seeing my classes as an opportunity to learn something more in depth than ever before, I treated them the same as high school classes--something to get through. 2. Follow your heart and interests. I wasted time taking classes for a major that I thought would lead to a good job even though I knew the material didn't interest me. I found a major that fits me now, and I'm much happier, though it will take me a little longer to graduate. 3. Be involved. There's TONS of stuff to do on campus. I would say to balance activities between service projects, academic or cultural clubs, and of course, fun stuff like dances and games! There will be no other time in life like this!
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about the school is that there isn't as big of a range of majors as there is at bigger schools. There are students who would love to get their higher education here, in a subject that isn't offered as a major.
The best thing about my school is definitely the variety or ethnicity. I am fortunate enough to go to a small university, with students from over 70 countries in a student body of only about 2500. I have met people from all over the world, and we all share the same goal: to gain an education, and benefit from it. It is incredible to see all these different people come together, to study, and to learn; all in one beautiful place.
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Aside from the incredibly warm weather and wonderful location, BYUH offers students a chance to excel academically, socially, pyschologically, and most of all spiritually; however, the most valuable memories come from learning about the 50 different cultures attending that campus and being able to learn of, practice, experience, or maybe adopt a variety of different perspectives and ways of life different then my own.
Someone who doesn't think they are better than others. Most of the kids here are poor in money but rich in spirit and friendliness. Everyone works together and does the best they can. If you are other-oriented, you will do well. If you are focused only on yourself you won't like it.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
Like almost any school someone who doesn't care about their education and learning shouldn't attend school. There are so many eager minds out there who would love to opportunity to learn, grow and develop themselves. To not only benefit themselves but their family, friends and communities. Education is to be a fun experience yes, but also taken seriously. People who don't want to take their education or learning seriously should not attend this school. Plus, this school offers something even better and that is spirituality. This school is defnitly has high standards.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
I think the most frustrating thing about this school is that it is far away from any bigger cities like Honolulu. It takes a while to get there if you go by bus.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
The mix of people from different cultures makes this school unique. This situation allows one to make friends with people from different places around the world with most continents of the world very well represented.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
Diversity is the number one thing that BYU Hawaii is awesome for. There are students from over 70 countries. It is so great how students from all different ethnicities can get along so well. Anywhere you go, you are always hearing a different language. For me, learning about other cultures is so exciting. This is why I think that BYUH is so awesome!
My school is best known for the diversity of the student body. We have many students from different countries around the world. There are over 78 languages spoken on campus.
