College of Charleston Top Questions

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Katie

The Greek Organizations are really popular on campus, as is the Student Government. Basketball is a really popular sport on campus to go watch. I met my closests friends in my dorm; College Lodge is smaller so it has a really good sense of community. Also the residents in College Lodge leave their doors open a lot since we have balconies.

On campus, I am involved in a sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, and a pre-medicine honors fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Delta. They take up time, but they are so worth it. Greek life is not a huge thing here at the college. Life does not revolve around the Greeks. Sports are not that big either. However, basketball and baseball tend to be the most popular. Partying goes on all the time. If someone wants to party on a Monday, I am sure that they could find somewhere to go. I am not quite sure what that says about the students at the college, but hey, it is college. If you find me awake at 2am on a school night, I am most likely studying. I only go out on the weekend due to the fact that I have a busy workload during the week.

Lizzie

I am involved with the greek community at COFC. I am a member of ZTA. I also attend Intervarsity or Campus Outreach, which are christian organizations on campus. I wish athletic events were more popular. I met my closest friends in my sorority.

Stephanie

Greek life is not a necessity, but it is the most active group on campus. There is always something going on within the greek community. The dorms at CofC are not very friendly (at least Berry wasnt). I met three people in my entire dorm, and they lived across the hall from me. In no way do you have to drink to have fun in Charleston. There are so many other fun things going on in the city that you can do. There are theatres, concerts, movies, and several clubs that veer away from the "party" atmosphere. That is another great thing about The College. I have a few friends that don't drink, and several that do. However, we can all hang out together without tension or pressure.

I am involved in Greek Life. A lot of my time goes into it, and I hang out with other people in it as well. So, Greek Life is a big part of my life, but over the whole campus not that many people are involved. The ones that are, get very involved. You can be a partier and have friends to go out with every night, or you can study every night and be at the library. We have a wide range of people that go here.

Sarah

We have a great basketball team but unfortunately the games aren't as popular as a school with a college football team. Fraternities and sororities are imporant on campus, but they're not for everyone. They definitely determine how great your social life is though. Aside from that, there's lots of other things to do off campus including shopping and dining with friends on King Street.

Andrea

There is so much going on here that there is no way you could ever get bored. If nothing on campus interests you, Charleston has so many historical and cultural opportunities that a student could never do it all in 4 years.

Ryan

During the week I am either in the library or drinking at a house party or one of the hundreds of bars around the city.

Hunter

Most popular team on campus is by far the swim team. We throw the best parties and people love us. Fraternities are not liked except for those in them. Students should always close their doors in dorms. If I'm awake on tuesday night at 2 am I'm drunk. People party just about nightly. I met my closest friends on the swim team.

Cody

Frats and sororities are only important if you let them be. I didn't rush and I'm so glad I didn't! I've become involved with multiple arts groups and I love it.
