College of Southern Maryland is a great community collage for those who are starting their college path or are returning to continue their education. they are tons of ways connect with both fellow students and faculty so you are not alone. if you are struggling there are opportunities for you to get help.

The classes are small, approximately 12-35 students and many of the professors know their students by name. The campus is kept clean and the buildings are nice, as well as the outside areas. They have a nice big library with a lot of computers and a quiet zone (where students may not talk to one another, listen to music, or be loud in any way). I never ate at the cafeteria, I always brought a lunch; their microwave was never clean. Student life and events are encouraged, but campus events are not a priority for faculty or students. I have been a dual-enrollment since my Junior year in high school, I am currently a Freshman in college and I will be transferring after the Spring 2021 semester to a 4-year institution. The teachers were super accommodating to me as a dual-enrollment student and are still incredibly supportive of each of their students, dual-enrollment or college students. CSM is a great choice for dual-enrollment students looking for college credit, high school seniors who are not ready for a university yet, and college students preparing to transfer. Overall, the College of Southern Maryland is a good community college to start your education at.

It's okay. More of a means to an end than anything else, but it gets the job done. I enjoyed my time at CSM, but after two years I am more than ready to move on, as I think are most students after an extended period of time there. The campus activities and faculty don't do much to encourage active engagement and loyalty; I, for one, don't own any CSM merchandise or other identifiers to commemorate my time there.

A very lovely school with sparky individuals, students and teachers treat one another with respect and camaraderie. The campus atmosphere and general aura are fantastic and I recommend getting invested in the student life regarding politics, sports, on-campus and off-campus entertainment, just for starters. Some teachers, rightfully, aren't as appreciated or respected as others, but that hardly does represent this community college as a whole.

It’s a good community college, and the classes are a good size. Some teachers are better at teaching than others but I’ve never really had a problem. There is a cafeteria but I’ve only ever gotten food from the vending machines. Also, since it is a smaller campus there are no dorms.

As both a student and an employee at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM), I can say that this place is not the best in terms of social life, or a place for students to live out the "College Student Dream." But, really, that's not what attendance at CSM is for. It's purpose is to give students of all ages and socio-economic classes a chance to get a college education. It does that job, and it does it well, on occasion. Some of the professors I have met as a student have been wonderful. You can definitely tell that they know what they are talking about. They have also been available whenever you need them. But others have not been so wonderful. From my coworkers and fellow students, I have heard horror stories about some professors never grading assignments, giving them bad grades because they did not like the student, and other terrible things. On the administrative side, everyone I work with is wonderful. I have made lifetime friends working in different departments, and have learned skills that will benefit me throughout my professional career. All of my supervisors have been extremely supportive of me academically, as well as personally. My supervisors and coworkers have been my new family these past two years. In terms of the campus itself, the La Plata, Prince Frederick, Hughesville, and Leonardtown campuses are all beautiful and unique to their respective areas. They cater to their students specific needs, with regard to their culture, socio-economic status. disability status, and other aspects that make that individual special. What CSM lacks in size and student population, it makes up for in interpersonal relationships with staff members. Most, if not all, staff members know their students by name, and often start conversations with them. These staff members aren't just professors: it's people at the Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, Advising, Student Life, and even the Bookstore. CSM, because of its small space, is a very tight-knit community. I will be sad to leave this school, because it has made me feel more comforted and at-home than my actual house does.

I think it is a great school for learning the basics of your degree as well as getting started with the major that you are there to complete. The biggest plus is that at the faculty either retired or still employed with the classes that they teach. By the teachers having knowledge of what they are teaching, the classes run smoothly.

I think it's a great school. The College provides many different classes and activities. The campus is a safe environment, I never feel threatened and we always get campus alerts if there is a problem. The professors are great and help if you ask. When I have a question I know that I can go to the Counselors or the Bursars office and they are ready to help me. The Library has great hours and access to many things that you may need. We have a cafe and free food for people who may be in need. Out of the three campuses I think LaPlata is the best. College of Southern Maryland cares about their students and is always willing to help.

The college of Southern Maryland is an excellent environment for students looking to purse their associates degree and earn the proper credits in order to transfer to their preferred universities. With highly qualified educators and immensely dedicated staff, every student has the opportunity to be supported in the achievement of their academic goals.

A good small-scale community college with large scale connections. Official partnerships and transfer agreements with over 40 4-year colleges make the transfer program a popular choice among incoming high school graduates. In addition to this, The atmosphere is very comfortable while still being success-oriented. The staff are eager and willing to assist you in your higher-learning endeavors, and the student culture is tight-knit! CSM is certainly a place I’m looking forward to learning at.

I had always thought community college was 'no good' or a downgrade. Coming here has definitely been a terrific experience like no other. The facility really takes you in as their own and helps you in every possible way. so many resources and opportunities are given to the students, it is absolutely mind blowing how much they really care for the students. The teachers work with you in every possible way, tutors are available, there is so much I could go on about The College of Southern Maryland. I will always strongly recommend this school to every pursuing a college degree. I have has friends tell me about their experiences at four-year Universities and I always laugh in the back of my mind because we all looked down upon it, yet I am paying far less with more services.

College of Southern Maryland is a great starter college. I always recommend graduating high school students to give it a try before a University. It helps you save a lot of money and you get the same education. The professors are helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make sure you understand the assignment. We have events on campus that many students get involved in. I succeeded at this college and enjoyed my time there.
Jeanette
I had a great experience at CSM. It was the perfect place to transition from working (or high school) life into the often overwhelming college experience. It was a great stepping stone towards a four-year university. Classes are small, professors are knowledgeable and helpful, and the class options are diverse. I highly recommend for anyone looking for an easy transition! Plus, with an associate's degree from CSM, there are many articulation agreements with Maryland state schools... like St. Mary's College, where I transferred!

The campus is nice and small so it easy to get around. Everyone is friendly and easy to talk to. Some of the sports games I have been to have been energetic and fun to go to. Since I am a freshmen, I have not experienced a lot at the school yet but what I have seen so far has got my attention to attend this school, this coming fall of 2018.

It's a community college so we're pretty tight nit group of people. the facilities are really nice. they keep everything clean and safe for everyone. the people in student services can be pretty crummy sometimesso jjst do your research.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for College of Southern Maryland is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back and see myself as a college senior, I would tell myself to make sure your in as many school activities as you can. Surround yourself and get involved with people that you can benefit greatly from. Keep your head in the books because it will all payoff in the end. The real world is a whole nother place outside of school.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about my school is the multiple campuses in different locations and the requirement of online access for some classes. The cost of transportation for me is exceedingly high and I sometimes cannot afford to get to classes that I paid tuition for. The online access is an issue because of where I live, I do not have internet access because the only option is satellite internet, which is too expensive for me, and I cannot afford the gas to go to a campus or local library to access the internet, hindering my full potential to succeed.
My school is best known for it's convienience and it's advisors. The college of southern maryland is located throughout Southern Maryland's tri-county area. The college of Southern Maryland has 4 different locations: Laplata, PrinceFrederick, Waldorf, and Leonardtown. The advisors are also very helpful because they will sit down with you one on one and make sure he/she on the right path and that the student understands what is going on. The advisors also have follow up appointments that they have after the students reach a certain amount of credits.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
My school is very diverse. We are located next to a Navy base so we have alot wide variety of people coming to join our community. My school is just the right size fo me. It's not too big yet not too small. My school fits perfectly in our neghibohood to give everyone a chance at learning. With there not being hard requirements to get in everyone has a chance at further education, and i really enjoy knowing that fact.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I knew how to be confident as a writer and as a student. To have better time management and use the necessary sources to accomplish my goals in a better way.
All classes are difficult if you make them. What I learn in my classes are easy but that is only because they usually apply to my major and I really do like my major (Biological Sciences and Biotechnology). The teachers offer enough information for us to understand and apply it to life. There are only a few teachers that go beyond - like my Microbiology teacher. Because most of the students in my class are nursing students, she has to make sure we all understand it so we can apply it to a healthcare setting.
We do have clubs that correspond with some majors like Robotics or Business.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I wouldn't know of any stereotypes since this school is pretty diverse, but most of the students that are black often have a stereotypical high school vibe about them.
What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I definately brag the most about my professors. All of my professors for the fall 2009 semester were so good and talented. My four professors all loved teaching and were so passionate when they spoke. Passion in a teacher's voice is very inspiring for a college freshmen. Alos, my professors were not like others; they went above and beyond teaching their curriculum. They answered questions that students had with ease. And they could relate any question to a problem in their major or field of interest.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
I often have issues with the advising department. I want to set a plan for my future and make sure that Im on the right track. I often run into issues either getting an appointment with an advisor or with staff not returning phone calls.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
