What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could give my high school self advice about college, it would be to understand concepts rather than memorizing facts and to learn proper time management techniques. Understanding cocepts in college is very important because it is very difficult to learn all the material that is required; however, understanding concepts allows the person to condense all the information in a way that they could logically arrive at the correct solution. Because there is so much material to lean in college, proper time managment is important. This allows the individual to be able to go through all the material and understand it. Additionally, this allows the person not to be overwhelmed by all the material and therefore the individual would be able to better understand it. These two "words of wisdom" would allow the person to succeed in college.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about my school is the amount of professors who cannot teach well. I assume that maybe the College of Staten Island is required to offer courses and cannot find the capabable faculty to do this. Personally my grades aren't suffering, but still we the students are suffering. I feel that coming to college should be somewhere you learn and where your passion for the subject or field of interest grows not wanes. Nonetheless, the professors that are good here in this college are GREAT professors, but unfortunately there aren't enough of them.

What are the academics like at your school?
I enjoy the classes at CSI, sometimes, the classes are small enough that all of the professors try very hard to learn the names of all their students, not all teachers accomplish this, but at least you always know that they are trying. I think that like all other colleges some students study more than others. what i really like about CSI is the fact that they have the honors classes for students that qualify to take them. this allows students to find another way to try and stand out against all of the other students at our school.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
Overall I like CSI. There are things that need to be changed definitely, my biggest pet peeve with CSI is that 1. the lighting system at night is terrible. its just not bright enough on our campus. Also the fact that many departments are now not allowing students to opt into a class after the class is full, even if the professor is okay with it.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
What I've noticed about the College of Staten Island is the simple fact that there is no one overwhelming stereotype on our campus. We have our jocks, our nerds, and our rockers, our frat/sorority members and our geeks. However, what's great about CSI is the fact that these groups aren't separated like most colleges. More than once I'll see rockers, geeks and fashionistas huddled around a table discussing a project, or the jocks and nerds discussing a piece of gossip that was heard floating around campus. College of Staten Island is an awesome melting pot of personalities, ideals and backgrounds, and I'm really glad I decided to attend here.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
There are a lot of sudents' at CSI, however since it was a commuting school and no dorms (at the time of my enrollment) there was a lack of bonding amongst the studets. I actually traveled 4 hours and stayed with family to attend school at CSI. I was the only student at the entire school I had encountered who was not a permanent local resident. This was difficult for me because I was looking to make friends in college but most students' kept to themselves.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about the College of Staten Island is getting into the classes that you need. Because of the amount of students it is difficult to get into classes that are needed for your major. This is on of my major problems now because I did not know what career path I wanted to go down when I was entering college. Now I have made my decision and most of the classes that i need are not available at my college.

CSI was an exremely competitive school, in fact, some of the courses were more difficult than that of my Master's program and the challenge I received there prepared me much more than the majority of my classmates in graduate school.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
College of Staten Island is a local community college, therefore you will always pass by someone you know. It has a broad campus and safe, family like environment. CSI has excellent on campus transportation especially for disabld students, including myself. Although I have a mild visual impairment, I am registered with the Office of Accessiblity. This has helped me in my acadmeics and I have been receiving alot of support throughout each sem ester.
