Colorado Mountain College is a fantastic and freeing place that has multiple campuses. I am on a campus in a small town called Rifle, which is on the western slope of Colorado. The college is one of the most robust and accepting institutions that I have encountered. The classes are accessible and the faculty are a truly caring and informative group. From the advisors, the receptionists, and professors, every person there wants to help every student learn and grow. They are a community that is woven around nature and outdoor activities, as there is an emphasis that even includes the mountain beauty as a part of the curriculum. Yes, there are large college campuses, however, the small town experience can’t be beaten for the sake of such a kind and well loved community of higher education.
The college was originally founded in the 1960s and has been a meaningful, beautiful, and transformative institution since. It has given a step up in life to generations of people all throughout the country. There are multiple campuses to choose from and many are in resort towns such as Vail, CO and Glenwood Springs, CO. Its locations are like no other in regards to hiking, skiing, and biking. The scenery of every location is surrounded by a breathtaking mountain view. The price is not able to be beaten! They are one of the most affordable colleges not just within the whole of the state of Colorado, but the whole of the nation. Many are able to support themselves and move forward with very little to no debt. That low cost can’t be shown in many places in the USA. Colorado Mountain College is truly the only college that I can see myself going to because there is such a deep relationship to the wellbeing of the faculty, students, land, and future generations. The college is a community of which its glory will never be forgotten or fade.

I think it is an excellent option for the majority of generals and lower level classes. The price is right, the class size are much more reasonable-- I actually know everyone's name in ALL of my onsite classes--and the advisors and front desk are super accessible and helpful.

I moved back to Colorado from Minnesota to attend CMC. Their student advisor has helped me plan my future classes as well as guided me in what applications need to be filled out for graduate programs. And the disabilities coordinator as helped my with my ADHD get extra learning materials as well as time with tutors and outside classroom learning apps and programs. The staff and teachers are amazing and I could not be happier that I am back and on the best track to achieving my nursing degree.
Ryan
It is a great place to learn. I feel like administrators will take their time to help you. The professors are awesome and make the information make sense. I wish their nursing program is larger and that out of state tuition was more affordable.

I absolutely love the vet. tech. program here. We get so much hands on experience right from the beginning. We have acres of farmland and all kinds if animals. We are responsible for the care of pigmy goats, sheep, goats, a llama, four alpacas, two pigs, and between 5 and 8 horses. We also care for 3 birds, an eagle, some guinea pigs, ferrets, chinchillas, a hedgehog, a bunch or mice and rats, a green iguana, 4 snakes, and bearded dragon.
Erin
It is a dedicated school that is envolved in their students futures.
Jerene
It’s a really good school with faculty that really care about you. This school is spread out over 11 campuses so you can take your classes at the ones closest to the ski resorts or if you need to take a special class offered at another campus you can.

Colorado Mountain College is an excellent school that helps make it easy to go to school and work in an effective and affordable way. They're constantly entering improvements and the teachers/staff are very engaged with the students. Overall, CMC is a great place, to which I feel is very underrated.

My overall opinion of Steamboat Springs Colorado Mountain College is that it is a campus you go to if you are looking for a small school that has all the activities mother nature can provide while getting a solid education for a reasonable price. Also I have learned that most student that go to this campus are from the east coast which was interesting to me because I feel like most eastern folks like to live in their massive citys.
Ashlynn
Overall this is an excellent small school. There might not be close shops around that you can walk to, but there are good places to go to if you have transportation. The school is perfectly located on a mountain so you don't have to worry about noise. You're surrounded by nature all around so it is peaceful.

CMC is a wonderful college with great class sizes and professors who really care about their students. The classes are focused and students want to learn. A lot of students are returning to college or attending for the first time in adulthood to open new doors so it is a better learning environment than you would often find at a university.
Christian
This is a school providing phenomenal opportunities in the mountains of Colorado. As one of the most inexpensive bachelor's degrees available in the nation, with small class sizes and dedicated, devoted instructors, this network of 11 campuses is a hidden gem.
Samantha
I love CMC. It is small and affordable and your grow bonds with everyone you meet. You have the opportunity to know the president of the college and she makes time to talk to you. The food is okay but everyone is very active and cares about each other.

Colorado Mountain College ("CMC") offers 11 different locations across the state of Colorado, most of which reside in ski towns. Whether you choose the Champagne Powder® (and yes, that is a registered trademarked term) of Steamboat Springs, or you choose the banana belt weather of Buena Vista (pronounced "BEW-na Vista"), you're guaranteed to find an activity that interests you.
What is truly unique about CMC is the variety of different programs throughout their campuses. It's almost a little overwhelmingly difficult to decide what you want to do because of all of their sui generis programs. If you want to be a Veterinary Technician, the Spring Valley Campus in Glenwood Springs offers a real-life learning opportunity on their 220-acre farm. If you just want to play outside, the Leadville Campus, in my opinion, has one of the best Outdoor Recreation Leadership degrees at the best price.
For me, I have been working as a Park Ranger for the State of Colorado and have recently decided to go back to school, now that I know what I want to do. The Leadville campus offers a phenomenal degree in Natural Resource Management. Fortunately, I have been able to get "in-district tuition" which costs roughly $57.00 a credit hour. In 2009, I attended the CMC campus based out of Steamboat Springs and was thoroughly impressed with the instructors. Most were very knowledgeable teachers who could be teaching at big prestigious universities, but have chosen to live a simple, modest life in these smaller mountain towns. The only reason why I gave this college 4 stars, is because of 1 teacher that I had this previous summer, who unfortunately didn't teach. I spent money out of my own pocket, and didn't receive an ounce of information from her. It was an English class, and I didn't receive any feedback or grades until the last week of class. How can you improve if you don't get any feedback? Other than that lone English class, I have nothing but positive things to say.
The tuition is cheap, the teachers (most of them) are great, the surroundings are INCREDIBLE, oh and did I mention that you can get your Bachelors degree at a few of the locations as well?? CMC provides students with creative options for their future.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Colorado Mountain College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Doing what you love is more important than just going along with the program. It is said all the time but rarely taken seriously, but the saying "do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" is the truest statement when you're choosing a career. Be adventrous and don't worry about being a millionaire in your 30's. You create your own definition of success, so if you feel like you're doing well, then you are. Live your own dreams.
What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I WISH I KNOW ABOUT THE SCALORSHIP FOR LOCALS. THAT WHAT EVER MONEY YOU SPEND AT CMC THEY WELL PUT TORD YOUR FOUR YEAR DEGREE ONCE YOU GRADUATE FROM CMC
Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
My school is a community college that is cost and time efficient that accepts many different types of students ranging from high school to college level to older students who wish to return to school or take courses of interest.
My current school which is Colorado Mountain College is best known for their ourdoor program. There are hundreds of students that transfer from all over the United States to attend this school because their ourdoor program is right in the thick of everything. We live in a beautiful small town surrounded by wilderness and think lush forrest. There are hiking trails and wildlife all around, mountains close enough to touch, and skiing mountains within 15 minutes. Coming to this school is an experience that you will never forget.
Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Colorado Mountain College, although a community college nestled in the heart of the Yampa Valley presenting a wide variety of courses to its students, offers an exceptional discipline in outdoor studies. With course trips to surrounding outdoor-oriented cities of Colorado and Utah, students are able to possess a hands-on learning experience utilizing skills acquired in the classroom all within a two-year period. In addition, many courses are offered in a ?green? format minimizing paper waste and avoiding textbook damages.
The best thing about Colorado Mountain College is the small class size, internet class availability, and the mountain atmosphere. The teachers are very approachable and willing to answer any questions. Having the convience of internet classes allows a stay at home mom like me to return to college. Colorado Mountain College is located at 10, 152 ft. This makes for a beautiful back drop.
Colorado Mountain College is for anyone who wants to take an easier and more affordable start to college. The small class size is perfect for a better student-teacher interaction than the big universities that have classes up to 400 students. It offers a productive and motivated atmosphere, while still leaving the option of beautiful hiking and skiing nearby. It is the best of both worlds. One can get a great education while still having the option to stay active and play outdoors.
What kind of person should not attend this school?
In my opinion, there are not many people who shouldn't attend this school. I personally think that any opportunity that anyone has to go to college (even a community college), as long as they are truly ready for it, should be taken. This college especially is impressive because of the teachers. It is absolutely refreshing to be in a place where you get so much one on one and the professors honestly do care what happens to you. They take personal investment in your success. To me that is worth the world.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about my school would be not being able to get all the information you need in one spot. I had to search for everything I have needed, if there was one place that could have all the information you need to know about the school and how to get started that would be very helpful.
