What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell myself to just enjoy the process. To stay centered and seek my Higher Power's will for me. Find something that I really want to do with my life. Not just a job but as a career. Once I figured that out, to pursue all avenues of education, not just formal or classroom education but experience life and enjoy the process. The opportunity for education is such a privilege in this country and I will NEVER regret an education. I'd tell myself not to stop ( barring it's my higher Power's will of course) attending classes. Swallow my pride and get a loan if need be, but continue with my education because life will get complicated and busy. The over all theme I think is just to enjoy the process. Enjoy each year of life and have fun learning. Even the worst class will only last a semester.

Describe the students at your school.
I'm taking online classes so it's hard to really know what they are like but usually the first post in every class has been to tell a little bit about yourself. My classmates come from almost every part of the US. A lot of them are on army bases. They are all ages and ethnic backgrounds. Most have families and some are retired. It's very exciting and interesting to hear what they have to say about various topics.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
Columbia College is so diversified, anyone can attend this school and be accepted. It also has to do with the atmosphere of the town. Since the town is a major college town in Missouri, there are people from every race, creed and color. I honestly can't think of anyone that shouldn't attend this school unless it would be someone that is extremely wealthy and likes to flaunt their riches.

What are the academics like at your school?
Yes the professors do n=know my name. My favorite class would have to be Advanced Playwriting and it si because of two reasons my professor is a GREAT TEACHER and the set up of the class. Class particpation is a MUST because we have to write full length plays and then have readings of them within class. The setting is not competitive it is strictly learning and everyone must give everyone the UTMOST repsect within the class. My major is Plawriting and my professor is a Playwright who has hands on knowledge of the field and her teaching techniques are extremely valuable and helpful. I at the moment do not but she is always emailing us opportunities to get our work out in the world for production and encourages us to view as much theater as we possibly can. WHen she has evens that the class can attend outside of class when it does not clash with my current schedule I attend as many as I can it is always a rewarding learning experience. I believe that the academic requirements are very good, Columbia has the motto sure you can get in BUT CAN YOU STAY IN because the work is intense and not slacking at all. From what I have experienced the education at Columbia is geared towards producing qualified, well educated artistic professionals. I study often I have come to find out that most of the student body depending on the concentration do as well I have only run into a small handful that have not yet taken their enrollment seriously and make up excuses not to go to class. I have had another professor invite me to academic social gatherings that he thought I would be interested in participating in. I am excitedly anticipating the next one.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
It's horrible. The general/core curriculum is massive, and you can't focus on your major. These general classes constiute a required 18 classes that you need to graduate, despite the fact they have nothing to do with a students' major. The teachers for these general curriculum classes don't even hold bachelor's degrees in the subjects they teach. It's an embarrassment. The only good teachers at Columbia are the ones you get when taking classes needed for a major requirement.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The stereotype at our school is DO WHAT YOU LIKE HOW YOU LIKE. It seems that just because we are a school of artistic types that we need to dress in the most unconventional and outrageous manner possible. I am all for freedom of expression but I simply must draw the line at students that come to class looking like they have literally rolled out of the bed and walked into the class in pajamas, house slippers and hair all over there head. Really!
