What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would say think about what you really want and don't do something just because. Think about what you would like to do with your life and what career you would want; research it to help make your decision and perhaps go shadow someone in that profession. If you get a job that you love or even like, you'll never work a day in your life.
Don't change your school decision just because you met some boy, even if he's "the one". You'll miss your family; it's not that far away to visit. You might wonder what would it be like if you went off to school even for a year to get the college experience. If he's the guy you plan to spend your life with and vice versa, he'll be by your side the whole time encouraging you.
Don't ever stop trying. It's going to be tough at times but you'll get through it and do great; don't get discouraged if you get a bad grade. It's not as easy as you think. You have to keep trying and never let it get you down.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about Columbus State University is the financial aid office. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
Columbus State University is a melting pot that welcomes students from all backgrounds, social groups, and lifestyles. In truth, there is no defined stereotype of a CSU student because everyone has a place on our campus. CSU has a main campus and a fine arts campus that offers opportunities for everyone from an early childhood education major to a biology major to a music performance major. If you ask me, the common stereotype of a CSU student is staring back at YOU in the mirror!

What is your overall opinion of this school?
When going off to school I wanted a Medium sized, four year college, that had everything to its campus all in the same area. I feel as though I found that in CSU and I love that about my school. In between classes I can sit outside with friends on the schools lawn and watch other students toss a football, while still having the safe environment of a campus. The place most students spend time on the campus is at the Clock tower. It is located right in the middle of the campus, surrounded by a lawn and benches for all the students to enjoy. This Clock tower comes with a history and houses events for all of CSU. I'll always remember how I was so nervous about attending college and being away from home, but finding another location to call home in CSU.

When you step off campus what do you see?
CSU's main campus is basically in the middle of Columbus. One one side is neighborhoods, on the other is restaurants and businesses. You can see the mall, and behind that, the airport when you first get off campus. It's really close the highway, so you can get on going south to South GA or Florida or north to Atlanta or Callaway Gardens.
Riverpark campus is aptly named, being next to the Chattahoochee River. There's lots of historic buildings downtown and Carpenters (the Comms building) is right next to Historic Columbus. If you drink Coke, you might be interested in seeing Dr. Pemberton's house and apothecary, where he first invented Coke, on the Historic Columbus tour (it's free). In the next year-and-a-half, Columbus is getting a whitewater course, for kayaking and other water sport, which will be about next door to Riverpark campus. Riverpark is also the center for entertainment in Columbus: it is encircling the RiverCenter for Performing Arts, the historic Springer Opera House (which is haunted - there's a tour!), and not too far from the Civic Center (where our local hockey team, the Cottonmouths, play and where concerts, like Lady Antebellum in March, are held). You can also ice skate at the Civic Center during certain months, also.

Why did you decide to go to this school?
I originally was going to attend Valdosta State, actually. I didn't even apply to CSU until July 2011, a month and a half before school started. Some things fell through at VSU, so I had to make a quick decision and decided to go CSU. I was really upset about it, because I had heard terrible things. They were pretty much all false, though. When I went through orientation at VSU, the guides didn't really talk to us or interact with us at all. When I went through CSU's orientation, we were broken into small groups (about 7-10 people) and we talked about a lot of things. We discussed our fears about starting college, our interests, our majors, everything. We got to know each other and start out with some acquaintances - I had several classes with some people in the group. I was really impressed with that. I'm glad I decided to pick CSU and I plan on doing my 4 years here.
