What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
The advice I would give myself is, come in with a positive attitude. Even though you will be a "little" freshman, come in knowing that everyone else has been in the same spot. I would also tell myself to get out and meet as many people as possible. Do not hold back and never let people tell you what to do. Always keep your head on your shoulders and use your brain. An important point I would make would be do not let your new friends peer pressure you. Do what you know is right and always stick to your opinion. I would also tell myslef to be kind and considerate to everyone, even if they do not like you because someday they will realize what they lost. Considering the academics here, I would que myself in on keeping my studies up and to always get things done. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!!!! Procrastination is the worst thing a college student could do. Even though many of them rely on it. So in the big picture I would say study, work hard, make lasting friendships and have the time of your life.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
There isn't anything to do on the weekends. Something needs to be brought to campus or near campus to occupy students so they will stay on campus. Most students leave on the weekends and I think that should change.

Before I came to Culver-Stockton, I wish I knew a little more about the field I am planning on going into after graduation. I would have been more prepared for my education and how to handle any obstacles that are yet to come.

the academic caleder at culver-stockton is unique from any other schools i considered. the semester is split up in a 12 week and 3 week period with a full week break between each period during the fall and spring. also, culver-stockton allows athletes in their athletic training program, unlike the other schools i considered.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
the most frustrating thing about my school is probably it's location in a small, rural area. Due to the lack of businesses, it is often difficult for students to find jobs, internships, and social outlets beyond campus. to aquire these needs, students drive about half an hour to nearby areas with more opportunites.

What kind of person should attend this school?
Someone who enjoys small town life and close knit type of living. Everyone knows everyone on this campus, so if you are looking to see new faces every day, this probably isn't the place for you. Most students on this campus are extremely involved in some type of activity, so active people would fit in perfectly.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
If a person is into a large social scene, like going out to the club or large parties every night this school is not for them. It is located in a small town where there is not much to do. Most of the student body are from rural areas and are accustomed to this lifestyle, but the students from the city tent to become terribly bored.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
Culver Stockton College is a DOC affiliated liberal arts college. CSC is tiny, only has approximately 800 students. Most people don't know where it is, especially when the town is small as well. The town consists of 3 gas stations, 2 bars (one that only serves beer, no hard liqour), Dollar General, a grocery story, a farm store, 2 motels, Subway, and PizzaHut. The nearest Wal-Mart is a 20 minute drive away. It's an absolutely gorgeous campus, sits on top of a hill that overlooks the Mississippi River and you can see into IL. It's also a dry (no alcohol policy) campus, however they are working on changing that into a "Moist" policy (meaning that you are allowed beer, and only a certain amount per person, and must be of age). Our football team is pitiful, but they try very hard. Athletics are important to most of the students, and the coaches are strict about their academic preformance.

What are the academics like at your school?
Professors that haven't had you in class for 3 years still remember your name. Unlike large colleges and universities, you aren't a number, you're a name, and even the president makes a point of remembering you. Class sizes are 35 students tops, and that's in the general education classes. When looking into major directed classes, they tend to be from 5-20 students. The psychology department has only 3 professors in it, and you can't go 4 years without having them all multiple times, giving you an advantage to knowing the professors testing styles, lecturing, etc. Most classes are a mixture of hands-on learning, lecturing, and student discussions, making classes to be less monotomous. The professors are mostly very good at working with students outside of class if needed. There is also a counselor that during your senior year works with you on finding a job. They hold job fairs, help build resumes, and find jobs in your area if you aren't from the area.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
There are 3 sororities, 4 frats, and dozens of other groups and clubs, and there seems to be something for everyone. Everything is very close together, you can get from one side of the campus to the other with a lazy 15 minute walk and still be able to stop and say hello to people. We have speakers and other events almost weekly, if not multiple times a week. There are many job opportunites on campus to help students that need a job but don't want to drive or can't due to lack of vehicle. Even though the campus is dry, there is always a party to go to, and as small as the campus is, it isn't awkward just walking into someone's room to hang out. You know most students, and they mostly know you, making it easy to fight, but easy to be friends. Homecoming is a crazy weekend every year, and many of the students turn it into a week-long celebration. The college also makes the transition from high school to college easier by hosting "Wildcat Welcome", an event where the new students move in several days early and get fimilar with each other and the campus by having multiple activies a day.

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
Half the campus isn't religious, or not crazily so. The students are average mostly, just like all colleges, there are bad students and good students. And the Financial Aid that they come up with makes it easy for anyone to afford if they choose so.
