Emerson has a reputation of being snoody film students, and while there are a lot of those around, the majority of us are creative writers and marketing students. The other stereotype is that we are all really wealthy...

Pick at least three of the following traits to build your own stereotypical Emerson student. Gay. Bisexual. Shags anything that moves. Alcoholic. Never drank before college, now drinks like a fish. Smokes more than a pack a day. Smokes cloves "for the taste". Never smoked cigarettes before college, now lights like a Christmas tree. Smokes pot. Knows more about pot than you thought humanly possible. Never smoked pot before college, now burns like a forest fire. Musical theater major who only sings, drinks, and mates. Jewish, with parents "in the business". Foreign, with parents "in the business". White upper-middle class with a financial crunch. Taste in music s/he calls 'eclectic', friends call 'awesome', and everyone else calls 'pretentious'. DJ's for the underground Emerson radio station, because they feel that the mainstream audience would not appreciate their taste. Plays ultimate frisbee. Writes plays "for fun". Shops at thrift stores "for the style". Dyed their hair "because they felt like it". Wears oversized, black rimmed glasses, for reasons one cannot begin to understand.

Emerson has a lot of stereotypes. We get labeled as all being hipster kids and Emerson is known for having a cloud of smoke hanging above it from all of the students who smoke. Oh Emerson is also known for having a huge GLBT community. Emerson students are also known for ignoring religion completely. On the bright side Emerson is known for having a kick ass film program and amazing acting facilities.

The majority of the male student population is gay. The majority of the female student population are lesbians, or bisexual. Everyone has an "artsy" name or spelling, ie. Lynne, Sebastian, Bay, etc. Emerson students don't know how to do math. Emerson students don't play sports. Emerson students were always picked last in gym class.

People are overly trendy and pretentious, way too artsy, and guys are mostly gay.

Stereotypes about Emerson College: 1. It's a "good school" 2. Lots of chicks and no dudes 3. It's like high school, only we're a little bit older.

That all students here are gay, that they all smoke, and that they are all extremely flamboyant.

We are all artsy freaks who wear skinny jeans, leggings, and converse and smoke incessantly. Almost everyone did theater in high school and most of the guys are gay, so be careful who you hit on. Everyone is liberal and hates the Bush administration and is extremely vocal about their opinions. Upon graduating you will get a killer job because Emerson has THE best connections out of any college you apply to. Oh yeah, and everyone is a Jew or just thinks religion is pointless.

Emerson students are stereotyped as outgoing, creative, over achievers, homosexual.

Potheads, lazy, dirty, opinionated, radically liberal, smokers, career-oriented.

Gay, very gay. And also eccentric.

That they are all artsy and loud because they are all into communications. There's others but I can't really think of them right now.

They are all rich

Many people joke about the college giving students back their money if they don't graduate gay or a smoker.

The typical Emerson student is the hipster kid from a wealthy family who indulges in their uniqueness by taking other hipsters' fashion choices, film preferences, music tastes, etc. and explaining how their fashion choices, film preferences, music tastes etc. are more refined and unique.

I don't know of any that don't apply to other colleges as well
